When Inspiration Strikes – The Power of Music

Sometimes, I find inspiration in the simplest things. It can be subtle, like a stirring in the back of my mind that I don’t really notice at first, and it can be a thunderbolt. It can strike me hard, right down to my soul.

Today, I was looking around on iTunes for new music, something that seems to happen with alarming regularity… I’m a music whore. Honestly, I can buy albums and listen to them non-stop, well beyond the point where most people would be sick of hearing the same tunes. But, I find myself quickly aching for something new, something fresh. I have so much music, I could probably find that fresh, new feel among the albums and bands I haven’t listened to for a while.

I digress. Let’s get back to why I suddenly felt the need to blog.

So, I’m looking on iTunes, scoping out all my favourite bands (Seether, 30 Seconds to Mars, Red, The Starting Line, Tupelo Honey, 3 Doors Down, Lifehouse and the list goes on) and I’m finding nothing new… so I’m going to give up.

And then I see in the list of similar bands to one of my favourites that an OLD favourite, Breaking Benjamin, has a new ablum out after forever and ever and ever (yeah, it’s been a while, I’m not forgiving them for that). So I check out the new album, and…

OH. MY. GODS!

It’s like a thunderbolt, and it hits me hard in my soul.

UNLEASH Complete in First Draft and a Song Made For Snow

I’ve just completed the first draft of Snow’s book, Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series book 6). It ended at close to 94,000 words and I think it might grow a little during the edits. For now, I’m setting it aside to work on a series proposal (more about that next week) and planning the next Her Angel series novel.

To celebrate completeing the first draft of Unleash, I decided to write some tour posts for the Vampirerotique Winter Book Tour that kicks off next week. I’m doing something different this time, and each post is a labour of love, and takes me a while to write, so I need to get ahead of myself to keep on top of then.

But as I was working on them, a song came on my iPod that was utterly perfect for Snow, and his heroine. It immediately made me think of them and I just had to share it in this post.

Now you know what you should be listening to when reading the book. Storm is very much Aleksandr’s theme tune, as it was for Julian from Love Immortal too. It’s a song that really speaks about both of those vampire heroes.

Forbidden Blood – the soundtrack

Here’s the last of my soundtracks. This time it’s for my vampire romance, Forbidden Blood. This is a bit of a harder rock mix / alternative with some slower tunes in it. I’ve used a lot of these while writing the story, and Blood on my Hands by The Used is definitely the hero’s theme!

Love Immortal – the soundtrack

Well, I made a soundtrack list up for my paranormal romance, Love Immortal too, as I had so much fun thinking one up for Heart of Darkness. This one has a slower pace, more love songs and ones that are a bit more emotional. I think it reflects the story well, and some of these were used when writing scenes in the book.

I was procrastinating on Saturday and decided to write up a soundtrack for Heart of Darkness. I always write to music, choosing specific songs for certain scenes, so this is just an extension of that. Here’s my soundtrack for this vampire romance novel:
