Snippet Saturday – Author’s Choice – Her Wicked Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 6)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is Author’s Choice.

This week my snippet comes from my new release, the sixth book in my Her Angel romance series, Her Wicked Angel

Her Wicked Angel - paranormal angel romance Book

Asmodeus stared at the female. Liora.

Apollyon’s female, Serenity, was this beauty’s cousin. That only made him more intrigued about why the Devil wanted her.

Did he intend to use Liora against Apollyon? Apollyon was the Great Destroyer, one of the most powerful angels in existence and the one who was destined to fight the Devil and keep him contained within Hell and the bottomless pit.

Apollyon was also Asmodeus’s brother, or father of sorts. The first time the Devil had defeated Apollyon, he had tortured the male to the brink of insanity and had then drawn all that was evil out of him. The Devil had used that blood and a smattering of his own to create Asmodeus.

“You don’t look much like Apollyon. I’ve met him and now I’ve also met you… and you seem very different.” She eyed him, hazel gaze curious and intense as she cocked her head to one side. Her tone had a decidedly playful edge to it, soft and light, not exactly how he had expected a mortal to react to him. She was confident, calm, and a little bit teasing.

Asmodeus stared blankly at her. This was not normal female behaviour. He wasn’t sure whether she was flirting with him. He didn’t think it was a possibility, but she might be. He had no experience of such things.

His shock only increased when she raked her gaze over him, thoroughly inspecting him from head to toe, her stunning hazel eyes lingering on his bare torso. His palms sweated again and he swallowed hard as his pulse picked up.

Her right eyebrow quirked. “Why do you lack complete armour? Apollyon has all his armour. Why do you only have your hip pieces and armoured boots… are you incomplete?”

She could see his armour and his wings? His glamour wasn’t working. Had he done it wrong after all?

Asmodeus cursed and swiftly glanced around him at the other mortals.

Her Guardian Angel - paranormal angel romance Book

Amelia took hold of his wrist and tried to tug him into deeper water. He stood firm and she frowned.

“You can’t swim, can you?”

“I don’t know. I have never tried.” He might be able to swim. Angels sometimes remembered how to do things that they had experienced in a previous lifetime. If he had known how to swim then, he could instinctively remember it now, but he wasn’t willing to risk drowning in order to find out.

It didn’t seem to bother Amelia. She splashed his bare chest and face, and he responded by sweeping his arm across the warm water, sending a wave rushing towards her. She ducked under the surface and the water settled around him, lapping at his waist. He turned on the spot, searching for Amelia. When she didn’t surface after a few seconds, his pulse picked up and he waded further out, fearing that something had happened.

Something brushed his backside and he turned sharply, causing ripples to spread outwards from his chest. His senses blared in warning but he wasn’t quick enough. Amelia launched out of the water, looped her arms around his neck and her legs around his hips. Her playful attack caused his heels to dig into the soft wet sand under his feet and he fell backwards, sending them both underwater.

It went straight into his mouth and stung his eyes.

He broke the surface a split-second later, coughing the vile water up, and Amelia re-emerged, her sheepish smile visible in the strong moonlight.

She swam towards him and then around him, and his anger faded away when she came to stand behind him and stroked his back.

“They’re beautiful. Are they really a curse?” she whispered, her warm fingertips tracing the wings marked on his shoulder blades.

Snippet Saturday – Author’s Choice – Excerpt from Masquerade (Vampires Realm Romance Series Book 10)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is Author’s Choice.

This week my snippet comes from my vampire romance novel, Masquerade, which is book 10 in the Vampires Realm romance series. It’s finally a shorter excerpt this week, but it’s still quite long… I love the UST between Vivek and Sophis in this book, the product of misunderstandings and mistakes, and barely leashed desire that runs as an undercurrent through them both and both of them deny its existence… ah, their love is undeniable though.

Masquerade - paranormal vampire romance Book

The fight in the park with the hunter tonight came flooding back and the moment demanding the most airtime in her thoughts reared up again. She couldn’t shake the startling way she had felt as the haze from feeding had lifted and she had found herself face-to-face with Vivek. His desire had been unmistakable.

As had hers.

At first, she had tried to put it down to the effects of feeding but that excuse had died a little more with each silent moment that had passed between them. The longer he had looked at her with eyes full of fire, the harsh rise and fall of his chest emphasising the breadth of his powerful muscular body, the more intense her awareness of him had become. The scent of their desire mingling and filling her senses had urged her to go to him and satisfy the dark craving to finish what they had started earlier this evening.

Not the fight.

Where the fight had been going.

On some instinctive and feminine level inside her, she had been aware that things had changed during the flow of their battle and that they remained changed now. Vivek had started responding differently to her and, in turn, she had reacted differently to him.

Hideously differently.

Snippet Saturday – Stop Dragging My Heart Around – Excerpt from Love Immortal (Vampire Romance Novel)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is Stop Dragging My Heart Around – Putting your foot down.

This week my snippet comes from one of my stand alone vampire romance novels, Love Immortal. It’s long again this week. I have no concept of what a snippet is! When it comes to Julian, I just have to let this gorgeous immortal warrior have his way… and his way is a long excerpt from his book that shows just what a charming, beautiful, man he is.

Love Immortal - paranormal vampire romance Book

Julian flinched as the double doors slammed, one of them bouncing back open. It hadn’t gone as well as he’d hoped. He closed his eyes and cursed himself. He’d never been good with these kinds of words, with speaking of his past. Perhaps he should have given more thought to how he was going to tell her. He should have practiced. Now he’d only made things worse.

Lauren was convinced that she was Illia. Her confession about her feelings had left him in no doubt that he hadn’t imagined them, but it still didn’t stop a part of him from being convinced that she didn’t love him, couldn’t love him. None but Illia had. He’d wanted to tell her that. It would have made her realise that she was wrong about herself. She wasn’t Illia. None of them had been.

They were all different. The soul was the same but the heart changed.

His feelings for her weren’t because of Illia. When he felt he loved her, it wasn’t his love for Illia renewed but a new love completely.

Julian clenched his fists and cursed himself again. Now he’d hurt her. His pathetic confession had gone horribly wrong and he’d been silent when he should have explained to her that his love was for her, Lauren, not Illia. He needed to convince her of that.

He walked through the building, his senses fixed on Lauren’s scent even though he knew where he would find her. Her bedroom.

He had to tell her everything, even if it meant setting himself up for a fall that would be more painful than the one he’d taken for Illia.

Seeing her repeatedly reborn and then die had hurt him deeply, as deeply as not being loved. His existence had been lonely even when he wasn’t alone. Now Lauren was offering her heart to him, rekindling his lost emotions and his desire to do his duty and protect her so she would survive the fight against Lycaon. She deserved something in return.

As fragile as his heart was, he would offer it to her.

Snippet Saturday – Smooth Operator – Excerpt from Heart of Darkness (Vampire Romance Novel)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is Smooth Operator – Hero with moves.

This week my snippet comes from one of my stand alone vampire romance novels, Heart of Darkness. It’s a bit of a big one today but that’s because I wanted to capture enough of the story to set the scene too, and Aleksandr deserves a nice long excerpt to show just how determined he is to make Elise see beyond his rank of prince and the rumours about him, to the vampire he is beneath.

Heart of Darkness - paranormal vampire romance Book

Elise cursed the name of Aleksandr Nemov for the hundredth time that night, and it was barely two hours after sundown. It transpired that he had only danced with her at the ball. Now everywhere she went the ladies of the house whispered and glared at her. Even the guards were merciless in their teasing. She had gone to see Andrej to find some comfort but he had been so caustic that she had immediately left.

She hurried across the landscaped garden to the grey two storey square building at the back of the estate that acted as the garrison. It was past time to report in for duty. Hopefully, Commander Piotr would forgive her this small fault in exchange for the fact that she had followed his orders and ruined her life by dancing with Aleksandr Nemov.

Elise strode through the building, her focus so fixed on thinking of a way to gain a solo mission so she could patrol the city in glorious solitude and keeping her head down to avoid the snide taunts of her comrades that she didn’t notice the danger until it was too late.

The moment she saw Aleksandr, she turned and tried to escape her commander’s office.

“Elise,” Commander Piotr said and she froze, cursing Aleksandr again.

“Reporting for duty, Sir.” Elise saluted her commander and then Ladislav where he sat perched on the end of her commander’s oak desk dressed in a long black winter coat and pinstripe suit. She ignored Aleksandr.

“You are to show me the city tonight.”

Her gaze shot to Aleksandr. He smiled at her, all charm and sweetness.

Snippet Saturday – It Ain’t Over ‘Til it’s Over – Excerpt from Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance Series Book 6)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is It Ain’t Over ‘Til it’s Over – Refusing to give up.

This week my snippet comes from Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance Series #6). It’s a bit of a long one. It was hard to find a good spot to stop.

Unleash - paranormal vampire romance Book

The light began to fade, the clouds darkening, and the scent of rain drifted on the breeze. The weather was about to turn abysmal.

He hadn’t missed that.

“Aurora,” he started and then wasn’t sure what to say. He had to do something to make her stay. The thought of her leaving hurt him, making his chest ache, and he would rather lay his heart on the line than let her go without a fight. “Do not leave me… I know I do not deserve you… and you probably think me a wretched monster that deserves only death.”

She tensed at that, her shoulders going rigid, but said nothing.

“Please, Aurora.” When was the last time he had pleaded with a woman? Probably around the time he had decided to give up desiring females too. Aurora had changed all that.

He thought of her constantly, never able to get her out of his head, even in sleep. His dreams always went back to the night she had saved him, and then forwards to her arrival at Vampirerotique. He couldn’t think straight around her and couldn’t picture his life without her in it now.

His hands shook so he curled them into fists, clenching them. He had never felt weak and vulnerable like this, uncertain, not in all his centuries of life, not even when faced with his bloodlust or chained to his bed.

“Do not leave, Aurora. Come back to my room… stay with me… and I will find a way to show you that I am… I do not know what I am… but I know I don’t want you to leave.”

Snippet Saturday – Author’s Choice – Excerpt from Hunter’s Moon (Vampires Realm Romance Series Book 9)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is author’s choice.

This week’s snippet comes from Hunter’s Moon, which is the ninth book in the Vampires Realm romance series, and is a vampire / werewolf romance. It’s a bit of a long one today as I just couldn’t decide on one part of the opening chapter… so I thought I would post it all!

Hunter's Moon - paranormal werewolf romance Book

Crisp air rushed through Nicolae’s black fur in a constant stream, shifting with him as he wove through the dark forest, keeping pace with the bulk of the local timber wolf pack. The group ahead of him, led by the grey alpha, snarled and played, riding up on each other’s shoulders as they ran. Nicolae bounded after them, his paws pounding the uneven ground and his footing sure. He ducked under a low branch and then leapt over a fallen tree, landing softly in the fresh leaf litter on the other side. Mountains stretched into the distance before him through the woods, their craggy peaks highlighted by glowing white snow. The fat moon flickered between the bare branches above him and called to his blood.

Nicolae obeyed.

He raced with the pack down the slope towards the hidden glade in the forest. Leafless trees gave way to tall pines that towered above him, blocking the light, and his eyes adjusted, the dark world around him sharpening and his senses following suit. Cool fingers of wind caressed his ears as he headed in amongst the pack and joined in their play, enjoying the clear wintry air and the bright night with them. Several younger wolves in the pack snarled and nudged him, and he playfully responded, gently shouldering them as they ran and fighting for dominance. He let them win even though they were far smaller than he was.

Nicolae wasn’t interested in gaining rank within the pack. He was here to enjoy the moment and the company. Running with the timber wolves under a full moon excited him, took him away from the complications of the human world and set him free. There was nothing in the world as exhilarating as surrendering to his true nature.

Animal sounds filled his ears, undetectable to the humans who lived in the rugged mountainous region of Canada. The deer down in the valley ahead were moving, heading for a safe place to spend the night. He could picture them now as they waited nervously in the shadows of the trees around the glade, alert and aware of the wolves that ran in the dark forest. They would move and make it out onto the narrow strip of grazing land between the banks of woods at the valley bottom before the wolves reached them.

Tomorrow, there would be reports of a wolf attack on the deer, and how the Casey’s horses had panicked, and Nicolae would have to pretend that it startled him to hear such a thing.

That he hadn’t participated in the hunt and the kill of deer.

That he wasn’t a wolf.

A burst of wings broke the silence, owls fluttering from their roosts and heading high into the sky. Hungry wolf eyes instantly tracked them for a heartbeat of time and then the pack moved on, their focus returning to playing and hunting the deer. The day birds settled down in their nests, safe from predators for another night, unbothered by the wolves running below.

The pack began to streak ahead and Nicolae returned his attention to them. His blood rushed and his heart thundered. He felt wild. Alive. The leaders were dark blurs in the distance, almost blending in with the night, silent predators built for this terrain. Younger wolves jostled for position nearer to him. He raced to catch up, the cold air burning in his lungs and a sense of freedom flowing through him.

A howl cut the night and the wolves shifted as one, turning right towards the mountain, away from the glade and the grazing land beyond. Something had caught their attention. The howl came again and Nicolae listened this time, deciphering it. Wolf-speak was old and varied from pack to pack, but he had studied this one closely, and long enough that they had accepted his presence on the mountain. They no longer feared him. It had taken him a century of working with each generation, but he had gained their trust and their friendship, and had learned how to communicate with them.

He pounded up to the peak of a bare hillock, threw his head back, and howled at the moon through the barren trees.

The answering call told him why the wolves were now running with intent.

There were men on the mountain.

Men who didn’t belong there.

Snippet Saturday – Boys of Summer – Excerpt from Her Demonic Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 5)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is Boys of Summer!

Today’s snippet comes from the book Her Demonic Angel, which is the fifth book in my popular Her Angel romance series

Her Demonic Angel - paranormal angel romance Book

Erin walked the shore hand in hand with Veiron. She had wanted to go straight back to their villa and make love with him but he had insisted that they walked a while, and while she had been annoyed at first, she was glad that he had suggested it. It was strangely peaceful on the empty beach under the moonlight, Veiron’s fingers locked tightly with hers, his large hand engulfing her smaller one and keeping the chill off her skin. Palms fringed the sweeping shore and the warm water washed over her feet, the sound of the shallow waves steadily puncturing the near silence. The noise of people at the complex was nothing but a distant hum this far along the beach. The only competition the waves had was the occasional party at one of the villas and they had left the last of them behind a few metres back.

A breeze blew in off the ocean, carrying the scent of saltwater, and Erin shivered.

Veiron stopped, untangled their hands, and wrapped his strong arm around her, pulling her against his bare chest. Erin snuggled into him and looked up, meeting his gaze. His eyes were black in the moonlight but not dark. They were warm and soft, full of feelings that she felt mirrored in her own heart.

She lifted her hand and cupped his cheek, sweeping her thumb over his lower lip. She wanted to tell him again to be careful when he went to Hell but couldn’t find her voice, didn’t want to spoil this moment between them. It wouldn’t be their last. Nothing would happen to Veiron. Marcus would go with him and together they would be safe.

Erin kissed him instead, tiptoeing and gently capturing his lips. She kept it light, bare brushes of her lips against his, her emotions running wild with her. Veiron surprised her by doing the same, sweeping his mouth over hers and holding her close to him, his hands gentle against her back. Continue reading

Snippet Saturday – Author’s Choice – Sensual excerpt from Forbidden Blood (Vampire Romance Novel)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is author’s choice.

I delved into Forbidden Blood today for my Snippet Saturday teaser, which is a vampire romance novel. This scene takes place after the vampire hero, Kearn, has taken his human heroine, Amber, to a ball in order to lure out the man who is after her, only for that vampire to get his hands on her and end up tasting her blood. Kearn has saved her and taken her back to his apartment, and needs to deal with her injuries…

Forbidden Blood - paranormal vampire romance Book

Kearn waved his hand over his apartment door and it opened. He closed it with the same gesture once inside and carried Amber across the large white room to his bedroom. He carefully laid her down on his bed. She didn’t stir, not even when he turned on the light.

“Amber,” he whispered and touched her cheek.

He lost his hold on her blood, the connection between them severing and leaving him cold and alone. She lay on his bed, white against the brown covers, looking like death.

Kearn tried to talk to her blood again. Nothing happened. She had passed out. It would keep her safe from the vampire but it worried him. He wasn’t used to dealing with humans so didn’t know how bad this was. A vampire could lose consciousness from lack of blood and come around only a moment later. He didn’t know how long a human would take.

He removed his black uniform jacket and placed it over her to keep her warm, and then ran around the foot of the bed and into the bathroom. He wet one of the brown hand towels and came back to her, and drew the jacket away from her chest. Blood caked it in a thick line down from the left side of her neck. He gently cleaned it off her and then took the black napkins away from her throat.

Bits of the tissue stuck to the blood on her throat. He picked them off, careful not to disturb the cut, and then concentrated on cleaning around the wound.

The dried blood slowly cleared to reveal the cut. It was shallow and only half as long as his little finger, stopping just before her artery. Tonight would have gone differently if it had reached there. He would have had to seal the wound in the ballroom and suffer the consequences.

The precision of the cut backed up his earlier thoughts about the vampire. He hadn’t intended to place her in any serious danger. He had only wanted to confirm her as a Source Blood and control her.

Kearn wrapped the damp towel around his fingers and dabbed at the cut. Tiny beads of blood lined it in spots where the skin hadn’t begun to heal.

Snippet Saturday – Circle in the Sand – Excerpt from Her Demonic Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 5)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is Circle in the Sand – featuring warm weather / the great outdoors.

This week the snippet is from the fifth book in my Her Angel romance series, Her Demonic Angel.

He drew away, breathing hard as though he had run for miles rather than stood still on a beach and kissed her. She was breathless too, alive with emotion and warmth, with all of her feelings for Veiron.

“I keep thinking about something,” he said and he sounded so serious that she pulled further away so she could see his face. He smiled wickedly. “Hot tub.”
