WIP Wednesday – Her Wicked Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 6) with new sneak peek

It has been an eventful two weeks since I wrote my last WIP Wednesday post. Sorry I missed last week. I was deep in edits on Her Wicked Angel and completely forgot what day it was until Friday!

Her Wicked Angel is now edited and resting, awaiting a few rounds of proofreading to finish it off and polish it to perfection. The edit went surprisingly smoothly, and my beta readers were invaluable. I decided to tweak the ending to make it better, and now I’m sure you will love it. Asmodeus is one serious bad boy and Liora is pretty kick-ass.

Not only did I get the edit of the book finished, but I’ve also designed the cover and have written the rough blurb for the book. I can’t reveal the complete cover until August 26th, when there will be a huge reveal across a lot of blogs, including my own. The picture above is a snippet from the cover though (tweaked and with added text), so you can really get a feel for how awesome it is. I think it’s better than the Her Demonic Angel cover and I’m expecting a few rounds of “holy hotness!” when it is finally revealed on August 26th.

The book is now on my Kindle, waiting for me to read it when I’m away next week, soaking up some sun and culture in Dubrovnik. I’m sure that the old town part of that city will become the setting for something in a future novel. I’m expecting to be really inspired by it as it’s beautiful.

I’m not sure what’s next on my agenda. Probably proofreading Eternal Mates book one, getting the cover done for it and getting the blurb written. Then I’ll be working on the next Eternal Mates book (CANNOT WAIT!) and after that the first Guardians of Hades novel.

Remember, the official release date for HER WICKED ANGEL is September 21st.

Not long now, really. It’s already August and September will be here before you know it.

To tide you over, how about a new snippet of the book?

WIP Wednesday – Her Wicked Angel Release Date and Eternal Mates Book One

I need to play catch up in this week’s post as I have been a bad author and haven’t been keeping you up to date on my latest works in progress.

I have now completed the first edit of Eternal Mates Book One and it’s currently resting, awaiting a final polish and proofread.I really do think you will love this new series and I’m excited to see your reaction, and to venture further into this series. Every time I finish working on this first book, I want to immediately begin working on the second one. I have to take that as a good sign. I have so many fantastic heroes and heroines for you to meet, and of course some old faces too in future books as we’ll be returning to Vampirerotique at some point in this series.

This is a series of novels, so there will be a bigger gap between releases than I had with the Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series that is set in the same world, but it does mean you’re getting a bigger fix each time.

With the edit on Eternal Mates Book One completed, I have moved on to editing the next Her Angel romance series book, HER WICKED ANGEL.

This is a longer book, so it’s going to take me a couple of weeks to work my way through editing, even with my schedule being cleared of a lot of admin and marketing work. I’ve had some amazing beta readers working on this book with me, and the two who have finished the book have both come back making very positive noises, even going as far as saying it’s the best one in the series so far. That has definitely made me more relaxed about this book and is helping me work through the edits with a bounce in my step.

I began editing Her Wicked Angel on Sunday and I’ve completed the first 63 pages out of around 300 in total. I have a few areas in the book that need more attention and that will slow me down, but I never rush through an edit. It’s a very important time in the life of a book and I like to give it my full attention, taking my time about it.

Now, the bit you’ve probably been waiting for (if you’re not subscribed to my newsletter – as I announced this in July’s issue)…

The official release date for HER WICKED ANGEL is September 21st.

Not long now, really. It’s already almost August.

To tide you over, how about a snippet of the book?

WIP Wednesday – Wicked Angels, Dark Elves, Jaguar Shifters and Demon Kings – oh my!

I have returned from my holiday, caught up on my work, and have finally completed the first draft of the next Her Angel romance series book, HER WICKED ANGEL.

It was such a relief to finish the first draft of this book. I had an epiphany last week, realising the majority of the chapters I had outlined but had yet to write were more suited to the next novel in the series. I talked it over with my writer buddy, Alexandra Marell / C A Nicks, and decided to follow my heart on this one and shift parts of the rest of the outline into the next book in the series. It makes far more sense like that. I think that was the reason I had petered out towards the end of the first draft. I knew in my heart those scenes were better suited to the next novel, but had been blind to it at the same time, leaving me with a niggling feeling that something wasn’t right.

With the first draft of Her Wicked Angel completed and sections of the book in the hands of some very helpful and lovely beta readers, I moved on to my next project. Editing the first Eternal Mates book!

I have a title for this book but it’s a secret at the moment. My first task on this project was reading the book to reacquaint myself with it and make the switch from writing about one world to another. I sat down on Sunday evening and all of Monday, losing myself in the book. I finished my read through on Tuesday morning, and I really wanted to dive straight into reading the next book in the series. I probably would have, but I haven’t even written it yet. I’m taking this as a good sign though, and I’m confident that you guys will probably want to do the same when you finish this one. There is a lot of story packed into the pages, with hot new potential heroes to steal your hearts.

I introduce five new hotties in this book alone. There are three dark elves, who are the ancestors of the vampires, and therefore heal via taking blood, so expect some biting! There’s a devoted bachelor jaguar shifter and a rough-yet-so-damn-masculine demon king in the mix too.

Can you tell I’m excited about this series?

WIP Wednesday – Her Wicked Angel with new sneak peek and other book news

I’m still working on the next Her Angel romance series book, HER WICKED ANGEL.

I didn’t manage to get the book completed in first draft before I went on holiday to Italy. I took it with me on my Kindle though, and after reading a couple of books by another author, I began reading it over to reacquaint myself with the novel. I finished reading it on Tuesday morning and I’m very pleased with it so far. I’ve just sent over the first 30,000 words of it to some beta readers to see what they think of it and get working with them on it.

The turnaround on this novel is pretty tight but I’m hoping that I can get it out in September / October this year. I had wanted it out at the start of September, but due to the funk I was in for the first part of the year (and I’m still struggling to shake), it’s going to end up pushed back or it will turn into a rush job and I hate rushing my work. You guys deserve the best quality read I can give, and that means I need to do things right and take my time with the editing and proofreading of the book.

I’m hoping that I can get the book completed next week, and then it will have to rest for a period before I can begin editing it. Having read over the first 110,000 words of the novel, I know it’s in very good shape already and just needs some minor work to boost the description in places, up the tension and drama, and inject more of that emotion I love pumping into my books.

I’m not sure what I will be writing once I have a break from Her Wicked Angel. I’m debating whether to begin work on editing the first Eternal Mates book, or work on the next Vampires Realm book. It’s hard to say which it will be. I should write another Vampires Realm book, but my heart isn’t in it right now. My muse wants me to write new series and new worlds, and I think that’s because I’m concerned that at 10 books, the Vampires Realm series has become too big for many readers’ tastes, and it puts them off reading it… even though it’s a series where the majority of the books work as stand alone novels. It always makes me sad when I have to make the tough decisions – writing what will get sales and new readers versus writing what I would love to write in an ideal world where I didn’t need to pay bills, feed myself, my cat and other things. I don’t think it helps that I feel I should write the next Vampires Realm book. Whenever I feel pressurised into writing a book, my muse instantly clams up and gives me hell. Maybe I can fool him into cooperating by reading over the notes for the book and pretending that my schedule really isn’t that bad that if I write another book from scratch, as opposed to editing one I already have written, I probably won’t have another release after Her Wicked Angel this year.

Eep!

Here’s a new teaser from Her Wicked Angel… all first draft because I’m only just writing it so forgive any errors…

WIP Wednesday – Her Wicked Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 6) with new sneak peek!

I’m still working hard on the next Her Angel romance series book, HER WICKED ANGEL. My deadline for completing the first draft of this novel is next Wednesday, because I’m taking a break from this grey, wet and windy weather we’ve been suffering in the UK and heading off to warmer climes for a week. I can’t wait to get away, but before I can go, I need to wrap up this book.

I’ve managed to get the book up to 80,000 words now, and there are around 9 chapters left to write. That’s probably another 30-40,000 words to go, which seems quite daunting to me right now, but I just have to get my head down and get on with it, and I’m sure I can get this book wrapped up in the next week.

The book is coming along really well now that I’ve found my flow with it again. The release of Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance Series Book 6) caused an unplanned break in my writing in order to accommodate promoting the new release and getting everything together for it. It’s always difficult when there’s a big gap in my writing time on a novel, but thankfully, it didn’t take too much work for me to get back into writing this book. I clocked up 13,000 words on Thursday last week, and a further 13,000 on Friday, and then I wrote 10,000 on Tuesday. That’s 36,000 words in three days, which boosts my faith that I can get this book completed in first draft by Wednesday next week.

When I have the book completed in first draft, I’ll probably add it to my Kindle and take it on holiday with me. I think Asmodeus and Liora will need a nice break too, and if I get in the mood, I can read it through and pick up any minor errors, and then I’ll be able to get it off to Beta readers when I get back.

I’ve had a few readers ask when this one is coming out. There’s no definite release date for it right now, but I will say that the aim is to get it out in autumn 2013, so sometime between September and November this year.

I asked my Facebook fans whether they wanted a teaser with my WIP Wednesday post and many of you shouted out that you’d like that, so I’ve picked out another of my favourite moments in the book so far.

Here’s a teaser from early in the book… all first draft because I’m only just writing it so forgive any errors…

WIP Wednesday – Her Wicked Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 6) with Sneak Peek!

Since I don’t have a cover for the next Her Angel romance series book, HER WICKED ANGEL, and won’t have one for a while, I’m sticking with using one of my warning signs. I did make this one with Asmodeus in mind.

I’ve had a rough time with this book so far because the release of Unleash meant that I had a lot on my plate to do for that and it was really putting me off writing. Thankfully, I seem to have found my writing flow with this story again, and although it has been fits and starts today, I have managed to get the book up to 41500, increasing it by around 5000 words. That’s not too bad when I’ve been struggling to write these past couple of weeks.

I’m on a deadline with this book now. A serious one. I have to get it done in first draft by 5th June, and then have some very tight turnaround times on editing and proofreading in order to get it ready for release. I want this book to come out in September, but can’t make any promises right now. It’s tricky. I’m still not sure what my other release will be this year. It all depends on my muse. If he’s feeling up for it, I’ll write the next Vampires Realm book. If he wants me to write something else, well, I can only really do as he wants. At the moment, he’s leaning towards getting the first three Eternal Mates books written.

At least for now, Asmodeus is playing nice and we’re moving on his book again. He’s a rather wicked fellow, as you might imagine from what we’ve seen of him in Her Demonic Angel, and this morning I shared a snippet of one of my favourite scenes in the book on Facebook. I promised to post a larger snippet of that same scene here at my blog, so…

Here’s a teaser from the book so far… all first draft because I’m only just writing it so forgive any errors…

WIP Wednesday – How does a wicked angel kiss? Just like this… sneak peek!

Since I don’t have a cover for the next Her Angel romance series book, HER WICKED ANGEL, and won’t have one for a while, I’m sticking with using one of my warning signs. I did make this one with Asmodeus in mind.

I ended last week on 17000 of this book written in first draft. So far this week, I’ve bumped that up to 36550 words. It was nice breaking the 30,000 word mark, which should be around 1/3 of the book. It’s slow going with this one. I’m building my focus but I’m easily distracted at the moment and not working at my normal speed because I have less outlined for this book so I have to write and think a lot at the same time. That really slows me down. I think there’s something else holding me back too, and maybe that’s a sense that this one won’t be as good as Her Demonic Angel. It’s going to be hard to top that one. I’m think it might be as good as Her Guardian Angel. I wish I had time before I write these books to read over the series. It sucks that I don’t get that sort of luxury. My schedule is just too demanding.

I don’t think it’s a lack of pace or tension that’s making writing this one feel as though it’s dragging. We’ve had a few altercations and fights in the book already, and stuff is happening, and Asmodeus and Liora are growing closer. I just left them on the verge of doing the nasty for the first time, which should definitely be an interesting scene to write.

I’m really not sure what’s slowing me down. I want to stick with saying that it’s the thin outline I have for this one, but my muse is saying that it’s something else. Something more. It’s all stuff that I will fix in the second draft, layering in the details and boosting the drama, but it still leaves me feeling concerned. I think it’s really that feeling of concern about this book that is probably slowing me down. I’m feeling a bit on edge, a bit like my writing sucks right now, and a bit drained and up against it because I’m behind my deadlines, and that makes me doubt the book. Ah, I’ve not missed that feeling. I’ve had it with Unleash, and with Her Demonic Angel, and with other books. The more I write, and the more readers love the books, the more pressure I feel. I need to get used to it and get over it, and then get on with it.

The stupid thing is, I’m sure when I read this book over, I’ll think it’s fine and wonder what the heck I was worried about. It has big drama, big tension, big emotion, and a bad-ass hero and bitching heroine, and what I’ve read back so far is perfectly good.

Why don’t I let you be the judge of it and share a snippet?

Here’s a teaser from the book so far… all first draft because I’m only just writing it so forgive any errors…

WIP Wednesday on a Friday – Her Wicked Angel

Since I don’t have a cover for the next Her Angel romance series book, HER WICKED ANGEL, I thought I would use one of my warning signs I often post on my Facebook page… it works for me.

I haven’t made as much progress with this book as I would have liked at this stage. Life things have interferred and stolen my time and concentration, and I was having niggling doubts about the book until I read over it this morning and realised that the 17000 words I have so far are perfectly good, and I’m striking the right balance in the characters.

This one is a tricky book to write. Asmodeus is not your average romance hero. He’s very much full-on evil, and has naughty thoughts that see him regularly contemplating a massacre. The guy was raised in Hell, and it seems the heroine, Liora, is willing to give him a chance to show her that he’s not really 100% evil… it’s more like 95% and a seed of good.

Writing Asmodeus is a fun journey though. So far, he’s been extremely mischievous, very wicked, disobedient, vicious, violent, protective, aggressive, vulnerable, confused, overwhelmed, hurt, offended and generally cruel and prideful. Thankfully, his heroine, Liora, has a full spectrum of her own emotions to run through and she’s been everything from sweet to sassy, peaceful to downright angry, horrified, aroused, worried, extremely dangerous and verging on violent, and all those other things you can imagine you’d feel if you met the king of demons and found him hot!

Let’s just say she’s no saint and she might just be wicked enough to fall for him.

I do like it when I come across heroes like Asmodeus though (or anti-heroes as the case may be) as he’s such a fantastic mixture of experience and innocence. Apollyon is right about him and he’s definitely complicated. I think I’m putting him through a rough time right now and we’re only 17000 words into the novel! He has some seriously bumpy times ahead. I’m sure he’ll make it through with the help of Liora, and maybe some other characters in the series. I really can’t wait to write him and Apollyon in the same scene though. Sparks will fly.

Here’s a teaser from the book so far… all first draft because I’m only just writing it so forgive any errors…

WIP Wednesday – Her Wicked Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 6) and More

Since I don’t have a cover for the next Her Angel romance series book, I thought I would use one of my warning signs I often post on my Facebook page.

I’ve been a busy writer, but unfortunately so much of my time has been spent on non-writing work. I was at London Book Fair from Monday to Wednesday last week, and had a fantastic time meeting the wonderful Mark Lefebvre and Shayna from Kobo Writing Life, and also Patrick from Goodreads, amongst others. I had wanted to write a blog post all about it, but haven’t had a chance to do that yet.

Since getting back from London on Thursday, I’ve been snowed under with work for the Unleash release on May 18th, and it has meant that my work on Her Wicked Angel has fallen to the back burner. It shouldn’t be there, I know that, but I have so much work to do for Unleash. Right now, I’m wondering if it’s really worth all this hassle though. Most of the work is for the virtual book tour. I’ve had hit and miss experiences with virtual tours.

To be honest, I didn’t tour with Her Demonic Angel and that did just as well as Bewitch, which I did tour with. I’m not sure I get anything out of virtual tours now, other than headaches and stressful schedules. I get just as much exposure from reviews and my fabulous hard-working mistresses on my street team.

Tours can take up a lot of time – probably as long as it takes me to write a novella and edit it. I think I figured out once that if I toured with each book I released in a year (say 4 novels), then I could write, edit and complete a fifth novel in the time I spent working on tour posts, sending out prizes, arranging everything, etc. I’d rather write another novel, and I think you would probably like that too.

Her Wicked Angel has made it past the planning stage though. I have all the character biographies in place, and the outline is complete at around 13000 words. I just need to write it now. It’s going to be a challenge. Asmodeus isn’t going to be a very easy hero to write. If you’ve read Her Demonic Angel, then you’ll know why. He’s 99% pure evil, with a seed of good in him. It’s going to be difficult to write him well in the beginning and capture just how complex and complicated he is. There is good in him, but it’s buried deep, and for a good reason. It wouldn’t do to have demon minions and others living in Hell realising that you’ve got a softer side underneath that cruel exterior.

I think his heroine, Liora, can help him grow and overcome his upbringing to become a much better angel. She’s strong and feisty, and she’ll bring the guy to his knees. Both of them are going to be fun to write. I’ve written some bad bad men in the past, and it’s fun getting them in touch with their softer sides and making them realise there’s some good in them, and there’s nothing they can do about that.

If you want to know who else is in this book… well, I think the gang is all there! We have Serenity and Apollyon in it for quite a lot of the book, and Veiron and Erin lend a hand, and Taylor and Einar are there, together with Marcus and Amelia. Even Lukas will make an appearance in this one. It’s a huge get together, and I think it will be nice writing Lukas again. Readers missed him in Her Demonic Angel.

Hopefully, in my next WIP Wednesday post, I will be able to tell you that I’ve begun writing Her Wicked Angel and I’m racing through it and on target!
