Nicolae fled Europe around a century ago after escaping the compound of the Tenebrae vampire bloodline, losing his whole pack in the process. Now, in the wilds of Canada, he comes across the last thing he ever expected to see in his remote territory–a vampire from Europe. He finds her injured and dying, attacked by hunters, and though he wants to leave her to die, he can’t bring himself to turn his back on her. He takes her to his home and tends to her, hoping to learn more about this mysterious woman and the hunters.
Her fevered skin was damp beneath his fingers and it was difficult to remember that she was a vampire. She was so soft. How long had it been since he had touched a woman?

He brushed the hair from her face, following the strands down to the ends where they were stained crimson, and then stopped himself. What the hell was he doing?
