Epic Vampire Romance Ebooks available now at fictionwise!!

The second book of the epic vampire romance ebooks Prophecy Trilogy, Prophecy: Caelestis & Aurorea, is now available at Fictionwise.com

Summary:
The final battle draws closer. Prophecy’s world becomes darker and more dangerous, pushing her to the limit and testing her strength and her heart, almost breaking her. Old friends turn their backs, leaving her to fight with the help of an unlikely ally and forcing her to call on the devastatingly seductive and powerful Lord Hyperion for assistance.

Struggling to rescue Valentine from the malicious hands of her blood brother, Arkalus and the lord of Aurorea, Kalinor, Prophecy discovers just how powerful she is and how far people will go to stop her from fulfilling her destiny. Lives are lost, battles are won, and the scroll foretelling the prophecy is finally completed, but nothing can prepare them for what lies ahead.

When her visions show her the path that must be taken, will Prophecy be able to do what is necessary? Are Prophecy and Valentine ready to command the power they’d never thought would be theirs? And are they strong enough to fight the evil of their true enemy?

Following on from Prophecy: Child of Light, the tension rises and love grows in Prophecy: Caelestis & Aurorea, a thrilling second part to this story that draws you into a dark, dangerous world of vampires, magic and the war to end all wars.

Werepanther Romance Ebook

I was prattling about this morning and then got booted off the computer by the hubby. Instead of doing what I should have done (read someone’s story) I wound up thinking of a ultra-hot Werepanther romance ebook I want to write.

I’ve written a paranormal werewolf romance ebook, but this will be my first werepanther / shapeshifter story.

And it’s going to be hot!

We’re talking sizzling, sultry, hotter than the surface of the sun, hot!

The tension between the two characters is palpable. Add to that the steamy dreams they both have, and the real-life encounters, and you’ll all be melting into a puddle of gloop when you read it. Hopefully I’m going to kidnap Maria at some point to get her to read it and tell me whether its trash or not. The Muse certainly loves it. He’s given me 5000 words of it today in just 2.5 hours. That’s Muse working ultra-fast for the sexy story. I must have been really concentrating.

Well…time to get my mind off it and get a bunch of stuff done for Alinar.

*phew* it’s hot in here!

🙂

Thoughts on trade publishing

I’ve recently reopened the debate in my mind about attempting to get trade published. Of course the first step is getting me to write mainstream (boring!) and the second step of that is actually attempting to get an agent, which in itself is a feat nothing short of a miracle.

Because of this internal debate, I’ve come to ask myself why authors feel the need in this day and age where we have so much control over our own work – with ebooks, self publishing, pod, etc – to be trade published. I want it, and I know of other authors in my circle that want it to. It seems like a Holy Grail, a dream of most authors, to be trade published. Why?

Is it a need to belong? To be trade published is to supposedly join the elite, a clique of writers whose books have leapt over hurdle after hurdle and made it to the finish line. We all know that its a slippery slope once you’re up there, your book published and out there in the world. With so many open forums where people can diss your work, including the formidable Amazon, its easy to fall off the pedestal.

Do I want to be a part of such a clique? I don’t know. I’ve never liked the clique mentality. You’re only as good as your last book and look at the way authors like L K Hamilton and Anne Rice have gone. People are slating them so badly that they’ve gotten twitchy and felt the need to respond. There’s a grand mistake right there. Give the public more ammunition against you by getting uppity because they had the audacity to call you on your faux par.

When I weigh up the pros and cons, the math doesn’t add up in my eyes. Only 1% of books submitted to agents and publishers, actually it’s probably less than that in reality, find themselves a home at a trade publisher – I’m talking about the bigger boys here, not the small presses. That 1% are apparently amazing, leaping over those hurdles like sheep jumping fences in your dreams. Of course, for most authors, being published is just a dream and will always remain a dream. For us 99%, our books are the sheep, only able to jump the required hurdles in our wildest dreams. Heck, a normal sheep couldn’t jump a fence!

I know this sounds negative, but I’m just aware that the odds are stacked against most authors. My dear friend Maria is always saying that reviews are just one persons opinion. If publishing houses have 1 person that loves a book, they probably make another bunch of people read it before they make it an offer. Surely those people have been influenced by that 1 person in a way? Like water-cooler talk. “this books great, you’ve got to read it and back me up here” or a more subtle influence of not wanting to disappoint your friend by saying it was crap.

Of course, we all know that when it comes to getting published, it’s not the person you impress with your skill as a writer, it’s the commercial value of your story. It’s never really about how good it is, just whether a publisher thinks it’ll sell. To make a book saleable, you have to stay near to mainstream and what’s in fashion, or what’s about to become fashionable.

Speaking from the heart here, I don’t think I write commercially, and I don’t particularly care. When you see the sales in the world of ebooks, and your story is amongst the higher end of the scale, you realise that a book doesn’t have to be mainstream to sell. You can write the story your heart wants to write, and you’ll probably get the same split of people loving it or hating it that you would get with a mainstream story.

I’m losing the plot here I think. Of course it’s my dream to be trade published, but sacrificing writing the stories I want to write in order to achieve that? Well, that feels like something akin to selling my soul right about now, and that’s something I’ll never do. Self confidence hasn’t been my strong suit for a while now, but I know when I’m faced with insurmountable odds and when to back down from a challenge, and this is me…backing down. Maybe when I’ve finished writing the stories I want to write, then I’ll get something published.

I’m with Dean Koontz on this one. He said once about his writing that “I don’t measure success by the number of copies sold but by the delight I get from the process and the finished work.”

Amen to that!

Urban Fantasy Romance Ebooks

Maria was reading about Urban Fantasy the other day and mentioned it to me as a book genre. I’ve read about Urban Fantasy before and thought about writing it, but what she said made me think again. She mentioned that Prophecy: Child of Light could be considered an Urban Fantasy Ebook in a way as, although it’s strictly a Paranormal Romance Ebook / Dark Fantasy, it does have magic and an urban location.

What does Urban Fantasy mean? Well, Urban Fantasy Ebooks differ from Traditional Fantasy on one core plotline – its magic in an city/urban environment, generally contemporary. Traditional Fantasy Ebooks are magic in a non-Earth environment – usually a world created by the author, or even an alternate dimension.

Examples of Urban Fantasy are stories like Jim Butcher’s ‘Dresden Files’ series, which is set in Chicago.

In a way, the Prophecy Trilogy are Urban Fantasy Ebooks, well, more like Dark Urban Fantasy / Paranormal Romance Ebooks. They have the locale, the magic, but also the darkness required by Dark Fantasy, and the vampire/werewolf element required by Paranormal. Heavens, this is all getting confusing! lol.

I’d always wanted to write an Urban Fantasy, and I guess I just have. Score one for me 🙂

I have other more Traditional Fantasy stories that I want to write, books about a different world to ours, one where magic is very open and accepted, and being a witch or wizard is being raised up in society to the level of royalty.

If anyone has read Prophecy: Child of Light, and wants to comment about whether they think it matches Urban Fantasy, do let me know by commenting!

Happy Birthday to me!

I’m enjoying my 4 day weekend… and have so far managed to maintain my challenge of no book related work on Saturday and Sunday. It’s my birthday today, so I deserve a break… that and I’ve got a BBQ this afternoon/evening that I need to get a lot of stuff done for.

I didn’t get as much done yesterday as I was hoping. Managed to get some Proofs made for people and did some work on my websites, but barely half the list I had to do.

Today I’ve spent burning CDs and opening presents. The DH fell for my “do you want a cuppa tea?” this morning and I wound up making them and then mentioned it was my birthday! Why am I making the tea? lol.

I bought myself some new music yesteday. Originally it was just going to be a new band to listen to – 30 Seconds To Mars – and then I saw there was a new Vertical Horizon album so I had to have that. There’s also a new Switchfoot album, and one I really want by Default, but those two have gone onto the “when I’m good” list. Lol. iTunes is a terrible thing. All that music purchasable at the click of a button. The temptation!

I’m still desperately awaiting more reviews for Prophecy: Caelestis & Aurorea… I know reviews really are just for the author, and most readers don’t pay attention to them. Authors do need them though. We get such little feedback from readers. Or at least I do! lol. I know the books are liked because of the ratings in Fictionwise.com, but every now and then it would be nice to receive a mail from someone who had read it.

Maria is working her way through the third book in the Prophecy Trilogy, Prophecy: Dark Moon Rising, and she’s working so fast I can’t thank her enough… of course I’ve discovered her terribly secret that she keeps searching for Venturi scenes to see if there’s any upcoming Proturi (that’s what we’ve labelled Prophecy & Venturi) and she’s still obsessed with the prospect of a Proventine (Prophecy, Venturi and Valentine) story. It’ll come… quite literally.

I’ll be off now. Got to bake a cake and tidy the house so people can mess it up again later. Ah well. It’ll be good. Always is, even though I spend my whole time running about like a headless chicken trying to make sure everyone has got everything they need. Lol. It’s times like this my husband calls me Monica (after the Friends character). I turn into Crazy Hostess Lady.

new vampire romance is recommended read!

My next story in the Prophecy Trilogy, Prophecy: Caelestis and Aurorea, has just received its first reviews and they’re both corkers!

Continuing in the footsteps of Prophecy: Child of Light was going to be a difficult task for the second book in my opinion, since that first book has received so many great reviews, including a glowing 5 angel Recommended Read from Fallen Angel Reviews.

Thankfully, I needn’t have worried since so far, Prophecy: Caelestis & Aurorea has garnered itself two 5 star reviews, one of which is a Fallen Angel Reviews Recommended Read!

Lena C @ Fallen Angel Reviews gave it 5 Angels & a Recommended Read!
“Prophecy and Valentine are back in the second book of the Prophecy series. As I’ve said before in my first review, this author, F E Heaton has a very imaginative mind in her for creating a world where vampires, wolves and magic combine making a beautiful paranormal story. I fell in love all over again with Prophecy for in the first story she seemed naïve, young and innocent about the vampire world. She is mature now and knows that the only one in her life that means anything to her is Valentine. Here is a young woman who is finding out that the only way to get things done is by yourself and not to let fear overcome you. I loved this story and can’t wait for the third one in this series for I am anxious to see how they will overcome the final battle and can Prophecy find Valentine.” (read the whole review here)

Anita @ The Romance Studio gave it 5 Hearts
“Prophecy is a fascinating vampire trilogy. Caelestis & Aurorea is the second installment in this highly imaginative and truly creative tale. Readers will need to read these stories in order to really understand and fully enjoy what is taking place. This fast paced tale will totally captivate the readers and maintains their interest throughout this exciting story… The action is non stop and some times quite brutal in description. These are vampires at war and they hold nothing back as they battle with sword, fang and claw. The excitement and intrigue is easy to become totally absorbed in as the story progresses. Readers are in for some surprises that will take them completely unaware and leave them anxiously awaiting the next book in the Prophecy trilogy. Caelestis and Aurorea by F.E. Heaton is a fascinating adventure and amazingly creative addition to the world of vampire romance and readers are highly encouraged to add it to their reading list.” (read the whole review here)

I’m thrilled, and spent a good part of this weekend bouncing around my house grinning like a loon and squeeing!

Bestseller Paranormal Romance Ebook!

Wow, just read through the blog and realised that I hadn’t been crowing about these reviews and the fact that Prophecy: Child of Light spent three weeks in the Fictionwise.com Bestseller list! It was amazingly exciting to see it there. Made me so proud. I really hope the second book in the trilogy, Prophecy: Caelestis & Aurorea can live up to it!

Here’s some reviews I had recently for Prophecy: Child of Light

“The first in a new epic vampire series. The characters were wonderfully crafted; both Prophecy and Valentine take on realism in your mind. The story line is very creative…This is the first book of Ms. Heaton’s that I have read. I really enjoyed the whole adventure and I’m waiting for more in this dark new series.” — Connie Devaney, Paranormal Romance (read the whole review)
“Ms. Heaton’s novel Prophecy: Child of Light starts this series of with a bang. The characters are extremely interesting and have depth. The story is very unique and I’ve never ready anything like it. It has a minor Romeo and Juliet theme going on, but has a very dark and dangerous undertone…Even with so many pages the book is a quick read and leaves you wanting more. I can’t wait to read the next book – Prophecy: Caelestis & Aurorea.” — Tammie King, Night Owl Romance — 4.5 Stars (read the whole review)
“Wonderfully imaginative this story seems to fly from beginning to end. Readers will be left anxiously waiting for the next installment in Prophecy’s story. For exciting action and romance as well as amazing creativity readers are encouraged to look for Prophecy: Child of Light by F.E. Heaton.” — Anita, The Romance Studio — 4 hearts (read the whole review)
Needless to say I was thrilled!

when real life takes over…

Well…RL took over a little recently and I think I got lost in all the work and forgot to update this darned thing.

I sometimes wonder who reads it anyway. It would be interesting to get a show of hands on that account.

What have I been up to?

Well, I’ve been internet-less at home for the past week because we’re switching provider and the idiots forgot to send us the new router and software. I could have screamed. Hey, at least I’m back now.

Prophecy: Child of Light has been getting some great reviews. It’s a wonderful paranormal romance ebook that I think everyone should give a chance. Actually, it’s a trilogy, but it’s worth it, honest. And I’m not just saying that because I wrote it! lol.

We had new sofas on Sunday… mum decided to get herself some new ones and because her old ones are only 3 years old and match the colour scheme of our lounge, we took those. It was great fun breaking up our old sofas once the new ones were in. I spent most of Sunday in the garden beating them with a hammer after I’d ripped them apart with a stanley knife. It also gave me a chance to tidy the garden a touch. We’re heading for a real declutter session soon. Our house is only a 2-bed so there’s not much room for lots of crap.

Oh, and the biggest news this weekend was not the fact that I managed to spend my entire saturday working even though I didn’t have the internet (book publishing waits for no person!), but that my aunt’s cat Tia gave birth to my kitten, Koyo. We don’t know if it’s male or female yet as it’s barely a few days old, but it’s small, cute and ginger like its mum–yes, Tia is a ginger female so there’s a chance the baby is female too. She’s such a small cat that she only had 1 baby, but my aunt is letting her have another litter as I wanted 2 kittens. I’ve been a bit lost since my old cat died last October and decided when I Japan in November to get kittens in the summer.

I get to meet Koyo (which basically means Autumn Colours in Japanese – very apt for a ginger cat) on the 8th April, the day after my birthday, but won’t get to take it home until another 4 or 5 weeks after that.

I’ll post some reviews when I get time. Just had an amazing one from The Romance Studio for Prophecy: Caelestis & Aurorea… the reviewer had the review in only 10 days after I’d submitted the ARC!!!

TTYL!
