New romance stories…

It’s been a busy few weeks for me. I’ve been writing new stories, refreshing old ones, and getting a whole set of releases ready.

Killing Game comes out this weekend and it will be nice to see my very first original novel back on the market. It’s had a revamp since it first came out and I’ve improved it in places. I loved exploring Cain, and it’s truly his story, showing his darkness and at the same time giving readers a real feel for his fight for redemption and his desire to cleanse himself so he can be with Lily. I have always loved hit men, and even wanted to be one as a child (although my inability to kill things would have eventually done my dream in. I’d make a great Buddhist)

I’ve been working on getting my historical pirate romance twosome, The Merciless and The Merciless: Vengeance, ready for re-release later in the autumn. Final edits have been done on paper because I was sorely lacking a laptop at the time and I always spot more errors when I read off paper. I just need to suffer through the laborious task of transferring all the corrections into the word document and then I’m done with those two books and they’ll be ready for release.

Since getting my new laptop, I’ve been writing again. First up was The Night, which I now have the rough first draft of penned. It’s a fantasy romance set in my Tri-Kingdom series and is only a short at 16000 words, but it still packs a punch and is a great introduction to this new world of mine. It’s completely fantasy, a whole new world with little resemblance to our own. There’s a myriad of characters to explore, including elementals, vampires, werewolves, sky pirates, sea pirates, witches, wizards, faeries, elves and the reigning empires monarchies, to name but a few. It’s going to be very colourful and involving, and I’m very excited about writing more in this series as I really get to let go.

Okay, I do get to let go when I’m writing my Vampires Realm series too, but not to this extent. There are rules in the VR world that clearly can’t be broken as it’s set in our world. With the Tri-Kingdom series, I have free rein to do as I want.

Which neatly brings me onto the Vampires Realm series…
I’m writing a new story for it, a short that my fellow author Maria urged me into writing because she really wanted Venturi and Prophecy to get together. When I offered up a mention of maybe writing a story involving Prophecy, Venturi AND Valentine, she was relentless in convincing me to go ahead with it. So, I’m now writing a ProVenTine story (nifty shipper word, huh? PROphecy VENturi valentine in case you were wondering… does sound like a Roman general though).

The short story in question is being written as I speak, or type if you like, and I’ve clocked up 9000 words of it in just a day and a bit. Not bad, if I do say so myself. It’s very hot, extremely burn-your-hands hot. It has the potential to burst into flames on my laptop! I hope it doesn’t since I’ve only just got the bugger and would like to keep it in one piece.

It’s entitled Spellbound and has jumped the queue somewhat, leaping over Reunion and In Heat: Mating Call to be written first. I don’t mind as it means I get to release it earlier, which is always exciting. I had scheduled it in for a Jan 2008 date, but I might be able to get it out for Halloween. I’ve decided that I like being able to write on the fly, shifting my schedule around to suit. I’ve got release dates reserved as I know I’ll always have something ready for them, but it’s pot-luck which story it is. Stories seem to flow better if I write what I’m in the mood to write and throw the schedule out of the window!

In terms of the heat level for Spellbound, think In Heat and then add some. I’m really exploring the power of a threesome here, and of course a vampiric threesome is always going to be hotter than your average one. I may even bring in a little bondage, magical of course, since it’s Prophecy involved. Interestingly I’m writing it strictly from her POV. I just started out that way and it seems to fit the story nicely.

Next on the cards once this has been written is In Heat: Mating Call, the sequel to my bestseller In Heat (sold 800 copies to date, not bad for roughly 8 weeks on the market, and spent 3 weeks at number 1 in Erotica on Fictionwise). The sequel introduces another character, this time a rival for Erik. The dreams return and are hotter than ever since there’s now another man involved, Prince Kristian of Denmark – a white tiger shapeshifter. I’ve got it all plotted out and scene plans written. I should be able to start writing it next week, once I’ve read over In Heat for a refresher on the characters and have finished writing Spellbound.

I’ve got a couple of covers to make. I’ve done the roughs for In Heat: Mating Call and have ideas in my head for Spellbound and Cabin Fever (a winter 2007 release). I just need to get around to making them. None of them are going to be turned into paperbacks, so I won’t need to fork out too much hard cash to get them made.

Wow, that’s a big update!

I’m really proud of In Heat for selling so well. I can’t wait to get cracking on the sequel, and while I have an inkling that I may well write a third story for Prince Kristian, I’m not going to make any promises. I do like the stories, but I’m not sure whether or not they should become a series. I’ll see how I feel. There’s a lot of stories that I can write along these lines but I don’t want to end up writing same-old same-old stuff. I know most HQN novels are just rehashes of the same plot with the odd difference, but I don’t want to go there just to make money.

well, what the hell am I doing?

So, I’ve dropped off the face of the planet these past few weeks, but it’s not so bad. I’m working in London now, so time to play about on the interweb and update all my sites and blogs has been minimal. The lack of laptop has now been resolved as I gave up on Dell and bought myself a teeny tiny little Samsung. I need a spare battery for it, but that’s only £60.

In Heat is no longer number 1 in Erotica at Fictionwise, but it had a glorious run of 3 weeks at that position! It’s number 3 now, which is the slip I’d been expecting from week 2 of its run. This run of success and bestseller-dom is far more than I’d expected for the story since it’s more of a hot romance than erotica.

Still, there’s a sequel in the works! But I have no illusion that it’ll do as well as the first.

I am fighting one of those “why bother?” moments today. So writing down all the great stories I’ve got coming up for release and in the works might help me wade through this horrible feeling. Sometimes I feel as though I’m fighting some impenetrable barrier that has immeasurable power and I can’t break through. It’s then that the “why bother?” feeling descends upon me and I can see nothing in my future but failure and pointlessness. (like why bother writing a blog that no one reads?)

Never mind. Plough on through and find some faith in myself. That’s the remedy.

So what’s coming soon?

Well, first up are the re-releases of my first three novels – Killing Game (romantic suspense), The Merciless (historical pirate romance) and The Merciless: Vengeance (historical pirate romance – sequel).

Then I’ve got to do some work, lol. The Night is due for release in mid-October. It’s a novella length introduction to my new series, a dark fantasy one set on a different world. That’s my Halloween release this year.

At the end of November, Cabin Fever, my long-haul romantic suspense novel will be released. I’m very happy about this and can’t wait to see it finally spread its wings and go out into the big wide world.

I’ve got the sequel to In Heat planned for release at the start of December. It’s going to be hotter than, but just as suspenseful, as the first book. I’m even considering writing a third book for the man who appears alongside Kim and Erik in this story.

That’s all my releases for 2007. In 2008 I’ll be writing mostly stories for Vampires Realm and my new series, but there’ll be stand alone stories in there too, one of which is my current beloved, Deadly Force. I’ve got that pencilled in for a March release if possible.

Well, I can’t really write much about 2008 without giving everything away but I can confirm that Blood Moon and Midnight will be making an outing for Vampires Realm.

all this catching up to do…

Cabin Fever is finally done in its second draft form. This is the only time I’ve had to write a second draft, but I’m glad that I did. I’m editing it now due to serious lack of laptop. My new one still hasn’t come and there’s been much arguing with Dell about the length of the wait!

I’ve got more time in my journey to / from work now so I can edit things much faster than before and write more too. It’s great. Leaves me little time in the evenings to work at home – such as promotion, emails, etc – but I prefer to be writing, even editing!, to working my fingers to the bone on projects like Alinar etc. It’s seriously impacts my time but does benefit me too.

I’m still number 1 in Erotica at Fictionwise.com with In Heat. I’m quite proud of it now and hope to start writing the sequel soon. It just got a FIVE ANGEL review at Fallen Angel Reviews and the reviewer loved it! She mentioned something about wanting a sequel or a series, so I’m happy to oblige. lol. It’s been number 1 for 3 weeks now and every week I expect it to slip down to number 5 or something. I’m sure that this Monday will reveal that it’s the week it happened.

The sales have been amazing – shocking in fact – and I hope I can reach the same audience with the second book.

Lack of a laptop means I’ve been forced to do things like writing up notes into my story notebooks for each upcoming one. So far I’ve taken all my scraps of paper with notes on for scenes and ideas and written up the ones for 3 Vampires Realm novels due to be written next year, The Night and Reunion.

In other news, I’m very excited to be working with a new author. I read her romantic suspense novel and just had to offer her my support with it. I don’t normally edit and critique peoples work, but her enthusiasm and style stood out to me and I see great potential in her writing. I’ve of course offered her a chance to sell it at Alinar when it’s done and I’m very excited that she accepted.

I’m also currently re-working three of my older stories -my first ones. Killing Game, a romantic suspense novel, is all but done now as it didn’t require much work. The Merciless and The Merciless: Vengeance are both going to be more work. I love both of these pirate romance stories and I’ve always been tempted to write a third.

🙂

Yet more works in progress!

I’m currently trying to edit a few of my old stories for re-release but new stories keep butting in and demanding to be written.

So far, I’ve written a chapter and plotted out another for one story – a romantic suspense with a paranormal edge about a woman named Yuki who has certain abilities that make her perfect for the Private Investigation business, but a freak in most peoples eyes so she’s always kept them under wraps, except from one man. Her partner, Mallory. Unfortunately, he’s been murdered in her apartment and she’s the prime suspect at the top of Detective Alexander Lakeland’s list. In fact, she’s the only suspect. Of course, she didn’t kill Mallory, after all, he’s the only one who understood her and she was in love with him. She starts to wonder if the person who did was actually after her and it isn’t long before she’s racing to discover who murdered Mallory in an effort to stop the same thing happening to her. The only protection she has? The Detective who suspected her.

I’ve also been reading over Reunion, my Vampires Realm short, and have plotted out The Night, the second short in the Tri-Kingdom series. I even wrote up the beginning of one of my Vampires Realm novels.

Now, if I could just get myself to do what I’m supposed to be doing – editing!

Out Now! Prophecy: Dark Moon Rising

Book three of my Prophecy Trilogy is now available at Fictionwise.com and the publisher site, Alinarpublishing.com!!

I’m so thrilled that this final book in the trilogy is out, but now I’ve got to live up to the amazing reviews and feedback the trilogy got and write the next book in my Vampires Realm series.

Prophecy: Dark Moon Rising
An enemy with unimaginable power and bloodlines with centuries of hatred bred into them, two things that threaten to tear Prophecy and Valentine apart as they fight for their lives and their future together. Their vain attempt to join their houses into one army drains the last of their strength, leaving them more vulnerable than they’ve ever been. The tension escalates between the bloodlines, and, more dangerously, between Valentine, Prophecy and Venturi. As everything crumbles around them, defeat seems inevitable.

In one decisive move, their enemy turns the tables against them, taking what is most important to Prophecy and leaving her to fear that the terrifying visions she’s been having are coming true. An enemy becomes a friend, guiding her in her time of need, and a friend becomes an enemy. Death, destruction and danger surround her, but the help of an old ally brings her the army she needs and the dark moon brings her the power to fight the legions of Hell.

When the time comes, will Prophecy be able to do what’s necessary or will the sacrifice she must make be too painful to go through with? Does she have the strength to stop Hell from being unleashed into the world and save the ones she loves at the same time?

The dramatic conclusion to the Prophecy story, Prophecy: Dark Moon Rising is a gripping tale of love and war that will take hold of you, set your heart racing and not let you go until the very last page.

Prophecy: Caelestis & Aurorea [book 2]
“Once again F. E. Heaton draws you into the fascinating world of the Vampires Realm… I really enjoyed watching her (Prophecy) grow as both a magic user and a woman. Continuing their quest puts both vampires in danger but also reveals the true depth of their feelings for each other. I especially liked the fact that Prophecy is so true to herself and her feelings. She doesn’t understand the feelings she has for Venturi, but does know that her heart lies with Valentine. As they search, their battles are filled with twists and turns as well as jam packed with fighting. So sit back and enjoy as Ms. Heaton skillfully introduces additional information about these two families, making you just want more! Prophecy: Caelestis & Aurorea, is the second in this amazing series. As for me, I’m off to read the next one–and so should you!” — Trang, Ecataromance — 5 Stars (read the whole review)

“Author FE Heaton captivates the reader with her tantalizing story, mesmerizing characters that will grab the readers’ heart from the first page and never let go! Werepanther Romance Story – In Heat

Well, progress has been made on my new werepanther romance story, In Heat. This story was supposed to be a novella, nothing more than 25,000 words…that quickly changed to 35,000 and the new estimate is 60,000. Basically, it’s gone from novella to novel.

I don’t mind as I think the story is worth it and it’s only the length that the plot is allowing. I’m not waffling in it, it’s just there’s more story than first expected. 🙂

Current tally is as follows:

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
48,000 / 60,000
(80.0%)

Which isn’t bad. Hopefully I can get it finished this week but there’s a new distraction at home in the form of my kitten, Koyo. She’s only 6 weeks old and we got her on Saturday so at the moment she’s shiny, new and very distracting. She’s a terrible sweetie though. Besides, there’s nothing more fun than playing with a kitten.

I’ll try to post a teaser of In Heat soon. I’m not sure when it’ll be out to buy. Probably July.
