Daughters of Lyra 5 – Sci Fi romance ebook – first draft complete!

This week I completed the first draft of the fifth Daughters of Lyra story. Daughters of Lyra is a science fiction romance ebook series that I’m writing as a follow up to my best selling sci fi romance series Sons of Lyra. I expect to be ready to start releasing the ebooks in this series in May, which will be good as I began release the Sons of Lyra short stories in May last year.

I really like the story in this one, which is why I just had to write it and up the series from the original four books to five. I think everyone will like it and I’m really excited about releasing it later this year. I have to edit it now, but there’s other stories that will take precedence over it for now – such as the second draft of Winter’s Kiss and Arcadian. It’s always best to leave stories for around a month before attempting the second draft anyway.

Daughters of Lyra 5
25,179 / 25,179
[100%]

There’s my tally. Quite a respectable one and about the length that I expected. All of the Daughters of Lyra stories are bettern 25000 and 30000 words. It’s a nice length to write. The Sons of Lyra series were all shorter, between 12000 and 18000. I wish I had made those longer now. Live and Learn!

I’ll post an update about Winter’s Kiss soon. I’m beginning the second draft of it tomorrow… looong editing days ahead of me to get the story right.

new sci-fi romance ebook series – Daughters of Lyra

I’m currently writing the fifth story in my new sci-fi romance ebook series, Daughters of Lyra. The series is set after my science-fiction romance series, Sons of Lyra, and follows the daughters of those four princes of Lyra.

Originally there were going to be four stories in the Daughters of Lyra series of ebook novellas but I had an idea for a fifth story and loved it so much that I just had to write it too. I’m only 8000 words into the writing the first draft of the fifth story, but the other four stories are pretty much ready to go.

I’ll be releasing all five novellas in this sci-fi romance series this year, probably starting in May like I did with the Sons of Lyra stories, and ending September.

To celebrate the new series and to give you all a taste, I’m going to give you a brief run down of the stories and then ask you to comment with the name of the story you want an excerpt of most! (excuse any typos… in a rush!)

Daughters of Lyra 1
The first story in the series follows Sophia, daughter of the now King of Lyra, Sebastian (from Sons of Lyra: Runaway Hearts) and Terea, and her struggle against the never-ending row of suitors that her father has lined up for her. When the latest suitor turns out to be the emperor of Varka, a species known for their heartlessness and bloodlust, Sophia wants little to do with him… but his first attendant, Regis, Count of Sagres, makes her heart beat like no other man before him.

Daughters of Lyra 2
Miali, daughter of the now captain, Remi (from Sons of Lyra: Fight For Love) and Emmanuelle, is an ambassador of Lyra. Her true heritage is kept secret, but her beauty places her in danger when slavers attack her ship when she’s in cryo-sleep. When she comes around she finds herself a prisoner and bound for the markets, and her only company is the young Minervan doctor on the slaver vessel, Kosen. As they get to know each other, Kosen realises Miali’s secret and agrees to help her escape so they can rescue his two sisters who had been sold into slavery years before.

Daughters of Lyra 3
Renie, daughter of the now General Lyra II, Balt (from Sons of Lyra: Slave Princess) and Kayla, loves to explore space with her twin brother, Rezic. When they venture too close to the Black Zone, the barrier between Vegan space and the rest of the galaxy, things turn from exploration to adventure. Rezic is injured in a meteorite shower and Renie has no choice to accept help from a vessel in the Black Zone, even when it turns out to be Vegan. The commander immediately recognises her and her brother and they’re taken hostage, to be held for ransom. In the cells of the ship, Renie meets the most unsual looking man she’s ever seen… a man who seems willing to do anything to protect her… a man who makes her heart pound.

Daughters of Lyra 4
Lieutenant Amerii, daughter of the illustrious Captain Lyra III, Acer (from Sons of Lyra: Stranded) and Stella, wants nothing more than to prove herself to her captain and the imperial army without her father’s help… except for one thing. Van, Count of Aeris and commander of the first fleet of Varka. He’s been on her mind since she met him at her cousin Sophia’s wedding. Charged with the duty of meeting the Varkans at Varka Two, Amerii is pleasantly surprised when the commander of the Varkan vessel turns out to be Van, and he insists that she be the one to sign the contract between Varka and Lyra. When she meets him on his vessel, he’s more handsome than she remembered and she resolves to risk the violence of his bloodlust to make him hers.

Now just comment and scream for the excerpt you want most! The one with the most votes will win… and I’ll post it tomorrow night. You have until then to make yourself heard!!!

Anyone can comment so get going!

My WIP romance novel is finished in first draft!

This morning, barely 15 minutes ago, in a Starbucks in London, I finished writing the first draft of my romance novel, code named Arcadian. I’m so excited!!! I had thought that it would be finished yesterday but the final chapter became two final chapters as it worked better that way. In total it’s currently 135,000 words which is a bit long but it’s the kind of story that you would have difficulty compressing into 100,000 words. There’s a lot of plot as well as romance, which is what I think makes a good romance novel.

I only started writing this on the 27th January 2009, and I had a week’s holiday around the middle of February in which I only wrote 6000 words, so I’m really happy that it’s finished so soon. I’m not one for meddling as I write. I’m of the “get it written, then get it right” school of thinking. Still, 135,000 words in only 5 weeks (less a good chunk for my off week) isn’t bad at all. It’s probably fairly close to a record for me and really helps me figure out my timings as I had allowed 8 weeks to write this story. I have a seven book series which I want to write and all the stories in that will likely be 100,000 words so seeing the timings on this one will help me figure out how long it’s going to take me to write those ones.

Now all I have to do is leave it for a few weeks and get on with other writing work. I can’t edit it straight away as the story is too firmly set in my mind and I won’t do a good job on the second draft. The plan is to leave it for 4 weeks while I write another novella (the fifth Daughters of Lyra story – a science fiction romance ebook series which I’m releasing this year) and do some editing on much-neglected stories such as Winter’s Kiss.

I think that I’ll have this story ready to send out to publishers in October, which is exciting. I’m determined to go through with it since I chickened out and didn’t send Seventh Circle out as I had planned to (I think the Harlequin Nocturne Bites rejections threw me a little, but look at how well those two short stories did for me as ebooks!). Both my husband and my friend have said that I’ll find an excuse not to send it and say I’ll send the next novel I write, so I’m going to prove them wrong. I truly believe that this romance novel is highly publishable and the kind of story that readers love, so I want to give it my best shot. I really do have faith in it and that this will be my first paperback published novel (since I’ve already been e-published).

Some of you lovely readers have been asking me about Winter’s Kiss and what stories I’ll be releasing this year. I’m going to write a big post, or a few smaller posts, about those this weekend and give you some tasters and dates so you can see what I have up my sleeve. I’m really excited about the Daughters of Lyra stories as I’m sure you’ll all love them. Don’t worry, Winter’s Kiss might have been delayed because of a need for a major second draft, but I’ll be working on it soon so you won’t have too long wait!

Happy Valentine’s Day romance lovers – and a little update

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I hope you have a wonderfully romantic day. I know my day has been wonderful so far, with my husband giving my roses, chocolates and champagne–everything cliche but sweet all the same.

I’ve had a long week with Arcadian, battling through a hard-to-write patch because I’ve reached the mid-way mark and I always lose my flow around this part a little. I have next week off work so I can hopefully get more written for the story, but normally I end up filling my time with other stuff and not writing when I’m on holiday.

Every time I complete a few chapters, I go back to my outline and see how many more I think there are to come. At this moment, I think I have another 52000 words to write, but it might be less (or more!). That would make the story around 135000 words, which is a relief. Now I just have to wait and see what really happens.

I added a new character in yesterday. It was a necessary addition and might make the story more interesting as it’s on the antagonist’s side. He could use a little company right now.

I’m trying to think about what I can post to give everyone a hint at the story, but I don’t want to give too much away. All I can say is that it involves numerous people with different powers–including the ability to manipulate electricity, a necromancer, and a psychic–and two immortals, one born of a Greek goddess, along with vampires and werewolves. It’s complicated, fast paced, and very romantic.

I had to write a fight scene yesterday morning which went better than expected. I had put it off on the way home the night before, skirting around the issue and playing games on my laptop instead of writing, but finally started it and it turned out good. Not too slow. The trouble with fight scenes is that writers have a tendency to drag them out and bog them down with detail. It just slows the story. Must keep the pace!

Here’s my tally so far:

Arcadian
82,679 / 125,000
[66.1%]

Not too shoddy. I’m glad that I’m past the halfway point now and I have some great scenes coming up so plenty of motivation to keep writing!

Will keep you all posted.

update on my latest romance novel

Arcadian is well under way now and while I had found my flow last week, reaching the 60,000 word mark, I am now in that dreaded middle section and things are going slower. I don’t mind though as I’ve written so many stories now that I’m quite accustomed to this point in writing the story and always continue to push on, regardless of how tempting it is to take a break when it seems like a struggle to write.

A few kind readers have asked what the story is about this time. I’m going to write about that in my next post as I don’t have enough time right now. Rest assured that it’s my usual complex romance with a twisting plot and plenty of paranormal action. Think Prophecy Trilogy or Seventh Circle and you’ll be in the right ballpark for the type of story that I’m writing with Arcadian.

Thankfully, the story is now feeling more like a 120,000 to 140,000 word romance novel that I could trim down and tighten to bring nearer to the 100,000 word mark. A few of the scenes that I had plotted out were shorter than expected. Also, because I only have scenes scribbled down for the first half of the story, I have a lot of plot outline for the later chapters, so I’ll probably find a lot of them aren’t as long as I am imagining.

At least I hope that will be the case.

I’ve already figured out parts in the first few chapters that need changing or tightening, so I’ll probably cut at least 2000 from there.

Of course, I’ll probably add that back in elsewhere!

I’m not used to writing to a limit, especially with a romance novel this in depth and complicated. I don’t want to skimp on things as that will only take away from the readers experience of the story. I would rather it be too long and get rejected by some publishing houses and agents than have readers dissatisfied with it.

I don’t have my little tally thing today, but I’ll update you all again this weekend and include it then. For now, it’s roughly 60,000 words long and still going. We’re roughly at the halfway mark. The heroine and hero are working things out and taking steps towards each other now. We’re heading for a big upheaval.

Can’t wait to write that bit!

For now, I have to settle with some neck biting action!!

Forced start… but we’re on our way

I haven’t written for over two months, so when it came time to start Arcadian in earnest, it was difficult to work up the energy to get going, especially since I have to carry my laptop with me to London everyday if I want to write. The lazy side of me wanted to put starting off until this weekend, throwing out the schedule, but I managed to get going and once I did, it wasn’t so difficult.

Whenever I have a break in writing, it’s always difficult to get back into it. My mind seems to ask why I have to write and then my heart argues that I love to write, I enjoy it, so get going! It’s war, but with a peaceful outcome once the muse gives me a royal kick up the backside and I finally start writing.

I have hit a snag already though. Something which I feared when I had written out the plot outline and seen the length of it! The other day when my laptop had succumbed to a lack of battery and died on me (after around 3.5 hours of writing. good laptop!) I went through the plot outline for the novel and roughly divided it into chapters. I was a little unnerved when I found it might be another 30 chapters. I had already completed 4 at this point, and my average length for a chapter is around 5000 words in this story. That means the novel is looking at coming out around the 170,000 words mark. Far too high if I want to get it trade published by approaching publishers and agents. When I made it home, I checked some of the first novels of other paranormal romance authors and they all varied between 90,000 and 130,000. Most publishers state they want a length of 70,000 to 100,000. If I can get an agent, I might be able to get away with 130,000… or perhaps if my submitted three chapters are good enough, then a publisher might overlook the length… but 170,000??? I’m really hoping that my chopping up of the plot into chapters is wrong and it does come out nearer to 130,000. When I had finished writing up the plot outline, I had an inkling that it was no longer a 100,000 word story as I had first anticipated, but rather one nearer to 130,000. I’m still hoping that my instincts are right on that one!

So, the word count so far (and pretty much for just this past week) is:

Arcadian
27,791 / 125,000
[22.2%]

I’m going to stick with 125,000 as the target. I’m almost at the quarter mark in that case and probably 2 chapters from the first gateway/point of no return.

I also realised on the train home last night that we’re seeing a lot from the heroine’s POV but not a tremendous amount from the hero. He’s had around 1.25 chapters so far, and she’s had around 3.75. Right now it’s important we’re with her though, and I know there are a lot more chapters with the hero to come in the 1/4 to 1/2 way point in the story.

That’s all for now. I’ll try to keep these posts regular. I’ve been so focused on editing and improving my stories recently that as I write, I find myself thinking about previous chapters and things that might need to be changed or chopped to keep the pace. I’m just writing them down in a notebook for now and I’ll address them when I get around to the second draft. I’m not one for tinkering as I write. I’m of the “get it written, then get it right” school of philosophy.

Time for house stuff now – washing, tidying, a bit of exercise, and installing a new shower with my dad!

I really want to keep writing. I haven’t felt the writing bug like this for a long time. It doesn’t help that I almost missed my stop on the train last night because I was so engrossed in writing and I left the hero on the verge of a rather swoon-worthy speech to the heroine!

🙂

Novel planning phase is almost over!

Well, it’s taken a while but the planning phase for Arcadian is almost over. I’m just putting the finishing touches to the character bios and printing out some information that I typed up so I can put it into a binder with all my bios, plot outline and scene notes.

It took almost two weeks to write up the plot outline in my non-work time. Sometimes having to work really gets in the way of writing. Still, it’s done now… but I have this feeling that the story isn going to be longer than I expected it to be. I had a feeling that it would be around the 100,000 words mark, but now that I’ve written up a comprehensive plot outline, it feels as though it’s going to be closer to 130,000 words. It might not be, but normally my inklings about these kinds of things are pretty close to the mark.

I can’t wait to get writing again but it’s going to take quite a lot of psyching up as it’s been a while since I’ve done any writing and I have become quite comfortable with just learning Japanese and doing other things in my time to and from work on the train.

I’ll let you know more as I progress. Probably weekly updates so I can see how I’m getting along and track my progress, and so you guys can see how it’s coming too!

Speak soon,

Ghostly Mistakes
Mary Alice Pritchard

Lizzy planned to make this mission short and sweet, but thanks to her client, Carl Taylor’s inability to provide details, it looks as if she was in for an extended adventure. A dangerous farmer with buried secrets, and the zealous accusations of a lady’s church group keep her on her toes. If all this isn’t enough to complicate her task, her growing attraction to the highway patrolman who caught her speeding, adds spice to the brew. If she doesn’t solve the puzzle left in her hands, she could find herself stuck with Carl for life. Oh, did I mention he isn’t a paying customer? Well, being a ghost does limit your financial abilities.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Tell us a little about your story.
Ghostly Mistakes is a paranormal romantic suspense with elements of comedy. Yes, it has it all. Lizzy is a channel for spirits. Once one of them attaches to her, she can’t get rid of them until she helps them resolve their unfinished business. Jacob is a highway patrolman who stops her from speeding and then can’t get her out of his head. They are thrown together to solve more than a pesky ghost problem. There is something going on in the small town of Belzoni that doesn’t include Lizzy’s ghostly hitchhiker.

What is it you relate to most with your heroine or hero? What do you like about them most?
Lizzy is all the things I would like to be in a woman, spunky, witty, and willing to take chances. I tend to ask a dozen questions before I leap.

Jacob is the tall dark handsome stranger I’d love to meet other than in my dreams. I’m sure we all have a few of them lurking in our subconscious minds.

How did you get started in writing?
I’ve written short stories off and on all my life. I used them as an escape from the world around me. I officially began writing about four years ago. I went to a Romantic Times Book Lovers Convention and fell in love with writing by talking with so many of the talented authors there.

What’s your schedule like, and what do you enjoy doing in your time off?
I work full time so I write whenever I can. Mostly it is on the weekends as it is about the only free time I have. As for my “off” time. I write, read and watch my feline muses who entertain me. Next to writing, reading is my one true love.

Where can readers find out more about your stories?
They can go to either www.thewildrosepress.com or to www.thedarkcastlelords.com for my short stories. My website is www.maryalicepritchard.com Don’t forget to check out my blog where the felines like to hang out.

Sneak peek into Ghostly Mistakes:
Lizzy Gordon risked another look behind her as she ran the last few yards to her car.

“Nothing…there…nothing there!” She repeated the words, not to convince herself, but to keep her mind occupied until she was safe behind glass and

steel. There was something there, all right. If she didn’t get into her car now, that something would have her for a quick snack. She pressed her remote as she neared the car; blinking headlights reassured her the doors were unlocked. She slammed the car door closed just seconds ahead of the presence bearing down on her and slid towards the center of the car, jerking as a malevolent ghost crashed into the door.

“That was much too close!” Realizing they were squeezed shut, she opened her eyes and made an attempt to slow her breathing before she hyperventilated. The presence outside the car was furious and pushing hard against the metal of the door.

“Sliding home on your ass again, I see.” The amused southern drawl drew a startled yelp from Lizzy before she could stop it.

“Damnation, Carl! Don’t do that to me again!”

Scooting back into the driver’s seat and jamming the key into the ignition, she peeled out of the cemetery, leaving a dust cloud boiling behind her. “And why are you here? I told you to keep out of my way!”

“Aw, Lizzy baby, is that any way to treat your back-up?” His smooth southern drawl raised her hackles instead of calming her down as he probably intended.

“Carl, I’m not your baby and you are most definitely not my back-up! I’m only in this mess because you can’t keep your promises!” Growling in frustration, she risked a look in the rear view mirror at her passenger. Oh, man, he was just as hard to look at as the last time she’d seen him.

Driving faster than was safe on a gravel road, Lizzy willed her pounding heart to settle down.

Gravel turned to concrete a mile from the cemetery as she sped back to the highway, only slowing down enough to make the turn without rolling the car. She headed towards Indianola, Mississippi, the closest decent sized city near Belzoni on her map. She’d reserved a room at a Day’s Inn once she arrived in Belzoni, before going to the first cemetery. It was only a thirty-minute drive between the two towns and she preferred larger rather than smaller, rationalizing she stood a better chance at locating a decent place to eat. Lizzy finally slowed down to just over the speed limit once she was in sight of the Producers Feed Mill lights that signaled the even smaller community of Isola. Taking a deep breath, Lizzy glared at her passenger using the rear view mirror.

Two weeks ago, she was living a fairly normal life in Jackson, Mississippi, managing a small emergency medical clinic. Yes, she had the odd deadbeat to deal with, but nothing dramatic or dangerous. She liked it that way—boring. Instead, here she was sneaking around in the middle of the night in backwoods Belzoni, Mississippi, an angry spirit on her tail and the meddlesome ghost who started the whole fiasco in her back seat. Lizzy felt like she was jinxed when it came to men and considering her track record, most people would probably agree. Gripping the steering wheel, she fumed over the situation. It never failed—when she found herself metaphysically bound to a ghost it turned out to be a whopper of an adventure. Oh, for a simple haunting or displaced body.

Staring into the rear view mirror at her latest male attachment, Lizzie planned to look for a new career as soon as she managed to rid herself of Carl.

Something where there would be less chance of hitchhiking ghosts. She could manage a dry cleaners or maybe a bookstore. She loved to read. Anything that paid the bills would do, if it would keep her chances of hooking up with dead dudes to the bare minimum.

Elyesha, last surviving descendant of a line of powerful witches, finally finds the only man she’s ever loved, the man who deserted her countless years before. But Ben is torn between desire and despair when Elyesha, his only love, eventually penetrates his protective retreat. He knows what she wants, but the price of their love is too high. At midnight, on the beach, a battle of wills and erotic seduction ensues as each confronts the other’s darkest fears.

Thanks for having me on your blog, Felicity. I’m thrilled to be here!

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Tell us a little about your story.
Foretaste of Forever is a dark erotic romance with paranormal elements about a witch and her emotionally tortured lover.

This story came to me in a dream. And it was a perfectly gorgeous dream, in vivid color and with sound effects. Midnight, on a storm tossed beach with the moon casting silver threads across the chilly sand. And the hero was breathtaking. Dark, dangerous. Powerful. And an utter mystery.

I loved everything about this recurring dream. But after a while – like, four years – it began to drive me mad. Because this couple never got any further! All I knew was the heroine would do anything to be with the man she loved, and the hero was too blinded by his sense of honor to see his destiny when she was standing right in front of him.

What is it you relate to most with your heroine or hero? What do you like about them most?
My heroine, Elyesha, is a strong, independent woman, which I love. But despite her powerful heritage and the destiny laid out for her by her foremothers, she’s willing to give up everything and do absolutely anything in order to be with the man she loves. And I love that about her too!

As for my hero, Ben, I love the fact that he’s willing to give up the only woman he’s ever loved, the woman who is, essentially, his salvation, because he believes she needs her foretold destiny in order to survive.

How did you get started in writing?
I’ve always loved to write. As a child I’d write rambling plays, as a teenager I penned long, angst filled poems and stories set in space or alternate realities (which now I think about them, always ended badly!!!) It wasn’t until my family and I moved to Australia from the UK ten years ago that I decided to get serious about my writing with a view to publication.

What’s your schedule like, and what do you enjoy doing in your time off?
I’m horribly disorganised, and think my New Year’s Resolution this year should be to get my butt in gear! I do try and write something every day, and do my best not to cheat by calling blogging or emails *writing*. On a good day I can manage about ten pages. On a bad day… well, let’s not go there!!

In my time off I go to the gym (a necessity rather than for pleasure, I’m afraid!), chat on MSN with my CPs (who live in New Zealand and the UK), read and spend time with my husband and three children. I’m also currently obsessed with the whole Battlestar Galactica universe and re-watch the DVDs way too many times for sanity!

Where can readers find out more about your stories?
I have a website http://www.christinaphillips.com

And my blog, which I try to keep updated several times a week http://christinaphillips.blogspot.com

Sneak peek into Foretaste of Forever:
Elyesha hooked her ankles around Ben’s waist as he strode through the castle’s crumbling entrance. For a fleeting moment, she wished it had retained its former glory, but her ancestors had allowed the magnificent stronghold to fall into ruins centuries ago.

Besides, it didn’t matter where she had Ben. So long as she had him. And soon – she would have him forever.

In the Great Hall, with its soaring arches and remnants of ancient grandeur in the carved four poster bed, he paused and she slowly slithered from his grasp. “What shall we do now?” she said, tilting her head to one side and allowing her long hair to tumble provocatively over her shoulder. She traced one finger over the hard ridge of his erection and hid a smile as Ben clenched his jaw.

“No suggestions?” She raised one eyebrow and trailed her finger over his groin and toward his chest. She didn’t know why he fought against her some nights. What did he hope to achieve? Sooner or later, she’d get her way and then he would see how foolish all his protestations had been. “Perhaps I’ll strip you naked,” she suggested, loosening the ties on his scarlet linen shirt.

He didn’t reply, except to give the merest grunt of a laugh. She tugged his open shirt from his britches and admired his perfectly sculpted chest, before sliding the shirt over his shoulders and along his finely muscled arms.

“Enjoying yourself?” There was a rasp to his voice, as if he tried to deny the rising desire between them.

She shot him an exasperated glance. “I intend to enjoy myself far more before this night’s over.” She tugged at the fastenings at his crotch, deliberately prolonging the procedure as she massaged his rigid shaft. Occasionally she found Ben’s inhuman self-control infuriating, but even that didn’t matter. Because, in the end, he always succumbed.

But sometimes, she wished for the early years. Before Ben had rebelled against their relationship. Before his misguided sense of honor had risen its unwelcome head and corroded their perfect world.

Impatiently she thrust the thought aside. She admired his honor, but had no intention of destroying what they had at its altar.

“So long as you’re enjoying yourself.” Ben’s sardonic comment penetrated her thoughts, and wet heat flared deep in her pussy at the look on his face. He was no longer rigid with self-control but lust, and his eyes glowed with rising desire. “I exist for your amusement, Elyesha.”

She ripped the last fastening free and dragged his pants down his muscled legs. “Never forget that.” Her voice was uneven, her heart hammering against her breast. How could he do this to her, after so many years? She had only to think of him to want him, had only to see him to desire him. And when he teased her, she knew in her heart she would willingly die for him.

If she was only given the chance.

He hauled her to her feet. “And now it’s your turn to entertain me.” There was no hint of reluctance in his eyes now. Only love. For her. She wrapped the knowledge around her heart and knew it wouldn’t be long before Ben made the final commitment to her.

It’s a new year!

Well, it’s a new year which means it’s time to sit down and have a good think about what I want to get out of the next 12 months. There’s many things on my list–life stuff like achievement at work, fitness, learning new things, improving my Japanese–and then there’s writing stuff, which is the stuff I’ll talk about here.

I was working hard in the last quarter of 2008 to write stories for this year so I can work on a new novel of my. At the moment, it’s just called Project Arcadian, or Arcadian for short. I will be making posts following my work on this novel but won’t be revealing too much about it. I’m sure the suspense will just make the wait more worthwhile!

I have plenty of success to be thankful for in 2008. A lot of my releases were best sellers in the romance list at Fictionwise.com, which was amazing to see story after story make it into the top ten. All 4 of the Sons of Lyra stories made the top ten in romance, along with Seventh Circle, and two other short paranormal stories of mine.

It’s those two that really have meant the world to me because I wrote A Promise of Passion and Embracing the Wolf for the Harlequin Nocturne Bites short romance ebook line, and both were rejected. The Nocturne Bites stories barely break into the top 25 in romance on Fictionwise, so having my two rejected stories sitting pretty in the top 10, was heartwarming to say the very least! A Promise of Passion reached number 9, and Embracing the Wolf has reached number 3 (and also number 8 in the overall best seller list on Fictionwise). It just goes to show that just because someone rejects a story, it doesn’t mean it won’t sell or people won’t want to read it. If someone rejects a story of yours, try someone else, or try self-publishing.

Thanks to all the wonderful readers who bought a story by me last year, and to my faithful who buy all my stories and help me walk on clouds by emailing me about them.

In 2009 I hope to bring you more wonderful stories that you’ll enjoy reading. I have another Vampires Realm novel coming out (when it behaves itself and I finally finish edits!) called Winter’s Kiss, and I have the Daughters of Lyra series. Originally there were four novellas in this series, to match the Sons of Lyra series, but now there’ll be five.

I wish you all a happy new year, and good luck with all your resolutions. If you want to, share them with me on this blog and we can work towards completing them together!
