Happy New Year – have a new chapter!

To ring in the New Year, I’ve posted another chapter of my upcoming release, Love Immortal. There’s only 13 more days to wait before this book is on the market! Yay!

I think I might have missed posting about chapter 3 as well, so here’s the link to the chapter list page so you can all catch up:

Love Immortal

Felicity Heaton

When you’re searching for your purpose, the last thing you expect to discover is that you’re the latest reincarnation of a goddess on a three thousand year old mission to defeat the original werewolf, Lycaon, before he can gain revenge on Zeus and Olympus.

Rescued from the claws of werewolves by Julian, a handsome and mysterious immortal, Lauren is pulled into a dark and frightening new world full of monsters out to kill her and an organisation of people with phenomenal abilities who want to protect her—Ghost. But the most frightening thing of all is that soon Lauren will need to drink Julian’s blood in order to reawaken and regain her immortal powers.

Or she will die.

Julian isn’t about to let that happen. He’s never met anyone like Lauren and he’s determined not to lose her. She’s the perfect copy of Illia but is nothing like her or any of the incarnations. She is light to their darkness, and she breathes life back into him, but can he trust her with his heart and bring himself to believe that the feelings she shows him are real after everything he has been through?

Can Lauren succeed in defeating Lycaon when all of her predecessors have failed? Will she be able to crack the armour around Julian’s heart and seize her happily forever after with him?

Happy Holidays everyone!

I was so busy in the run up to Christmas that I didn’t have a chance to blog and wish everyone a wonderful holiday with their friends and families. I hope you’ve all had a great time.

I spent Christmas day with my family, but there’s so many illnesses going around at the moment that not everyone could make it, and some of those who did really weren’t up for a party. New Year’s Eve will hopefully see everyone feeling much better and up for a paaaarty.

I received some new books for my TBR pile this Christmas. They’re joining my long list of books from my birthday (back in April!) that I haven’t had a chance to read yet. I did take a day out yesterday to read Lara Adrian’s Kiss of Crimson, which was fairly good. I solid good, 3.5 stars. I liked it, but it lacked emotional depth in places where I wanted it most, and the ending was resolved far too easily. I like fights to be a little more difficult.

My full list of books received at Xmas are:

Lara Adrian – Kiss of Crimson
Lara Adrian – Midnight Awakening
Lara Adrian – Midnight Rising
Lara Adrian – Veil of Midnight
Lara Adrian – Taken by Midnight

J R Ward – Covet

Gena Showalter – The Darkest Kiss
Gena Showalter – The Darkest Pleasure
Gena Showalter – The Darkest Whisper
Gena Showalter – The Darkest Passion

I love Ward and Adrian. Showalter not so much but I’m curious about her stories. I’ve read the first one and it was okay. I’m reading her more as competition research. I now have 16 books on my TBR list at Goodreads:

http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/1649956?shelf=to-read

I’d better get cracking. I’m determined to squeeze in some reading time this coming year!

Did you all have a great Christmas? What books or e-books did you receive?

Guest Blogger – Ciara Gold

I have the wonderful Ciara Gold on my blog today with an excerpt of her latest release.

The Keeper of Moon Haven
Ciara Gold

On the southern fringes of the Mendip Hills sits the Castle Hamingjur, an abandoned structure most fear haunted. Yet, on the rare occasions when the Hunter’s Blue Moon occurs, the Keeper occupies this mysterious castle where he guards the bridge to Alfheim Haven.

Noreen Willshire discovers more than fairytales hidden between the pages of Beletania’s diary. She opens the ancient book and finds a pathway to a Faery Realm where all manner of mythical creatures reside. In her naïveté, she summons the Keeper before his scheduled time in the human realm. In that brief moment, the mysterious wizard touches her soul with more than magick. She promises to return the diary during Mefylleth, a time when the barriers between the two realms melt away, but danger stalks her path. Torn between her desire to make a new life for herself in America and her growing love for the Keeper, she must bridge the gap between magick and time to follow her heart.

Excerpt
“Oh. But why… ?”

“Why did she seek you out?” Vin let go of the reins, and the horse went down on all fours. She laid her head in Noreen’s lap. Noreen reared back, startled by the unicorn’s forward behavior. Vin stared down at them both. The stovepipe hat made him appear taller, larger than life.

“Unicorns are drawn to virgins.”

Warmth flooded her skin. He never ceased to surprise her with his blunt words. “A gentleman would never talk of such things to a lady whom he has just met.”

“And there you make your first mistake. I come from a different realm where etiquette and cultural differences abound. Sex is as natural as breathing. Love, however, is a rare and bonding element. Never confuse the two.”

She ignored the turn of the conversation and redirected it. “Will she let me stand? I feel at a disadvantage while I look up at you.”

He tugged on Kirin’s reins. The unicorn tore its gaze from hers. After some coaxing, Vin managed to pull her away from Noreen’s lap. Straw poked at her shins. Noreen braced her hands upon the wooden slats on either side of the stall and pulled herself up. Vin had his hands full trying to restrain the unicorn or else he probably would have lent her a hand. She felt grateful his mind was occupied elsewhere. With all the talk of virgins and sex, she didn’t feel up to having his hands upon her person.

Once she stood, he let go of the reins, and Kirin rested her muzzle upon Noreen’s shoulder. She smiled. The unicorn acted as stubborn as some humans she knew. She stroked Kirin’s nose, enjoying the velvety texture of her hide.

“You could command anything of her at this moment, and she would grant your wish if it were in her power to do so.”

Her gaze snapped to his. The soft glow of a lantern illuminated his harsh features. As tall and handsome as he was, he would turn many a head. She swallowed hard. He stood proud and confident; a master of illusion to make her think him so handsome. “Could I command her to reverse time?”

“You could, but it would gain you nothing.” He edged nearer. “It was your destiny to find the diary.”

She licked her lips and pressed her back against the railing. “She doesn’t look like the unicorns I’ve seen in books.”

“The golden horn that marks her as unicorn disappears while she serves me in the human realm. Unfortunately, she still maintains her cloven feet and a body style not quite that of a horse.” He took another step. “Kirin is most generous of heart.”

“Don’t come any closer, Vin.”

“You don’t appreciate being backed into a corner? Nor do I.”

“When have I backed you into a corner?”

“You don’t know, do you?” He took another step forward.

She shook her head. His gaze held her captive. Her heart accelerated, and her palms became moist.

He pulled a rose from his lapel and tucked it behind her ear. “You make me feel things I have no wish to feel.”

Her back pressed against the rough wood. She was truly trapped. Screaming would serve no purpose. Nor did she want to scream. Something hypnotic kept her pinned in place.

He removed his hat and bent his head. The scent of rose and hay hung heavy in the air. Warm breath teased her neck. Did he mean to kiss her?

He growled. “This is not what I want.”

“You want Beletania’s diary. I’ll—I’ll fetch it, if you but give me a moment.”

He braced his hands on either side of her head. “The book be damned. No—I think it’s too late for that. I want more than the book.”

“Please.” What did she beg for? Release or his firm lips upon her own?

He dropped his hat to the ground and moved with a quickness that startled her. Before she realized his intent, his hand cupped her cheek. His touch was enough to awaken all sorts of forbidden feelings. She leaned into his palm, hoping he would kiss her and hoping he would not.

paranormal romance book news

It’s been snowing heavily here in the UK and it’s chaos. I’ve been unable to get to work because of the snow. I’m hoping that tomorrow the weather will be better and trains will be behaving themselves, and I’ll be able to get into work. If I can’t, I’ll have to work from home as best I can.

I’ve been lapse at updating my blog this weekend because the snow has been so distracting. I swear I spent most of Saturday watching it constantly falling. It was snowing for over 6 hours and we ended up with 8 inches in the end. I spent a large part of Sunday tiring myself out with clearing the drive of snowso my husband and next door neighbour wouldn’t skid into the wall of our house when driving into or out of it. There’s a huge bank of snow along the wall now. It’s very pretty outside, and we have an amazing row of icicles along the entire length of the back of the house, but it’s very inconvenient! My cat thinks so too.

This weekend I posted chapter 2 of Love Immortal. If you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for? We’re all snowed in together so we might as well read something good to entertain us while we can’t go about our normal lives, right? You can read the second chapter of this upcoming paranormal romance book at the special blog: http://loveimmortalromancenovel.blogspot.com/2010/12/love-immortal-chapter-2.html

You can read the summary at the blog too: http://loveimmortalromancenovel.blogspot.com/p/about-book.html

If you want to start on chapter one, then visit the chapters list: http://loveimmortalromancenovel.blogspot.com/p/chapters.html

It’s been getting a great reception, which is quite exciting. I have a group of readers who are raring to go on reviewing it for me. I’m looking forward to seeing what they think about the novel. It’s been a while since I released a novel, and this one was a long time in the making.

If you read the chapters, be sure to leave a comment letting me know what you thought about it!

In other news, I’ve finished the second draft of Hunter’s Moon. Hunter’s Moon is the next Vampires Realm series release and it will be available from February 12th 2011, just in time for Valentine’s Day. It’s set away from Europe this time, and follows a Nocens vampire on her mission against the hunters who killed her sire. In deepest Canada, she meets an unlikely ally–an ex-compound werewolf called Nicolae. Can we say forbidden love?

I’ll need to do another edit on the book before it’s ready for proofing and then release. My schedule with this one is going to be rather tight even now that I’ve switched the release date with Love Immortal‘s old one. I can’t imagine I would have had this ready for January 15th! Must have been high on optimism when I decided the original schedule of releases for next year!

I’m really looking forward to releasing Hunter’s Moon. I haven’t had a Vampires Realm release this year, other than the free A Day in the Life stories. I want to get back on track with the series in the next few years. There will be 2 releases in the series next year, and I’m hoping to write 2 more for the following year. Those will probably be longer. Hunter’s Moon is 57000 words, so around short novel length, and Masquerade will likely be around 40000 to 50000 words. I’d like to write another longer novel for the series. I have plenty of them planned. Just need to find the time to write them!

Guest Blogger – Raine Delight – Series vs. non-series books

Today the always lovely Raine Delight has come back to tell us more about her Devon Falls Series and writing.

I got a question from a reader the other day asking why do I write series books. Well that question stopped me in my tracks a bit. I never thought I would write series books but somehow, someway, my muse decided to run with it and today, I have one series with another on the way.

What do I love about writing series books? The chance to revisit beloved characters, the chance to explore the world I created more and to see what else will come to the muse to write about. There is no one thing that draws me to series books but the chance to see what else I can explore is a certain draw in MHO. I love seeing where my imagination can take me-from shifters, dream walkers to demons and more. The sky is the limit in my eyes.

Devon Falls was my first series of novellas and one I am particularly proud of. Originally to be only two books, it morphed into more than ten books once I settled down and saw where the muse was going. I was flabbergasted-ten books! I almost fainted but with four founding families to cover, it added up. I currently have four of the books available at Aspen Mountain Press, with two more coming in 2010 (Moonlight & Magic and Yuletide Magic) then I am taking a break for the beginning of 2011 to concentrate on a new series I am creating then back to finish it off late 2011-early 2012. *wipes brow* that is a lot of books, if I say so myself.

Next up is a new series, one I am enjoying immensely. Club Fantasy is a paranormal BDSM club run by a half-demon of lust and his lover. I am aiming for this to be a trilogy at first but then we can see what happens after that. Who doesn’t love demons, romance, bdsm aspects? I know I do. *grins*

This isn’t to say I don’t enjoy writing non-series books. I currently have one out at Aspen Mountain Press called Fairy Kisses and Magical Dreams-about a Fae Prince searching for his mate except when he finds her, she is human and that is not allowed. Another is an upcoming paranormal romantic comedy called Falling to Pieces coming to The Wild Horse Press. A heroine finds herself saving the hero and in the process falling in love. Loads of laughs, fun and non-erotic as well. Something that I kicked around with a friend and it morphed into this one wild, zany ride.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for me. I have other ideas for books (Space pirates anyone?) and who knows, maybe they will morph into a series as well. In the meantime, I read some wonderful series from talented authors (Yasmine Galenorn, Deborah Cooke, Jenna Black, JD Robb, etc) and settle in for my own personal reading pleasure while I recharge the muse.

My questions to you- What series to do you enjoy reading and why? Are there any out there you want to recommend?

Blurb:
A chance meeting at a sweet shop…Can it be love?

When a stranger stops in at her shop, Jenna is surprised by the immediate attraction.  Apparently, Marc is too because he wants to get to know Jenna.  A whole lot better and won’t take no for an answer.

Excerpt:
Jenna wiped her sweaty hands on her jeans and cleared her throat. “Do you mind locking up tonight for a change? I think I may have a date.” Gulping, she waited to hear if Raven would do this one favor for her.

Grinning widely now, Raven replied, “Cheri, if the look on your face is anything, I will lock up for the next week if it gets you out of the house! Go, have fun and enjoy yourself! And remember; tell me all the details if you get some wild kinky monkey sex!”

She watched as her friend peered around Jenna and into the store. “Wow girlfriend, when you wish for something, you got good taste! He is like a double dipped cone that makes you want to savor every last lick!”

“Will you stop drooling in the fudge, Raven? It will be ruined and we’ll have to start from scratch. I am still awed at how he came into this candy shop for his present. Then again, I am not sure after today he won’t want to come back or go out.”

Dismal thoughts crowded Jenna’s brain as she thought of Marc’s invitation. She didn’t know what to make of it and hoped she didn’t make a mistake in accepting. Blowing out a puff of air, she ran a hand down her jeans and hoped she looked alright. “Okay Raven, I’m off for the night. Don’t stay late. I know you have that hot date with Mr. Exotic at the Dragon Inn for drinks. Though how you can go you with some one with that name is one question you have to answer for me one day.”

Sighing, Jenna turned and just before going through the door, she heard Raven call her. “Cheri, have fun. Forget your assumptions—he may be the one man you’re looking for.”

Waving goodbye, she was startled to see Marc looking at candy cane display, still in the shop. It was as if her imagination conjured him up all over again. Jenna watched in appreciation at the way his leg muscles flexed in the tightness of his pants and enhanced his drool worthy ass; all tight and firm. What it would be like to hang on to that as he slid his hard cock into her tight wet hole.

God, I am turning into a nymphomaniac just looking at him. Get a grip Jenna. He’s just a man, though what a fine figure of a man he is and you’re only going for coffee, not wild, kinky monkey sex like Raven suggested!

Love Immortal – paranormal romance book chapters online

As part of the big run up to the release of my first novel in a while (over a year), I’m posting chapters for free at a special blog dedicated to the book.

Love Immortal is a long paranormal romance book full of action, passion, and drama. A real thrill ride and I’m excited about sharing the first 10 chapters with everyone. I’ll be posting the first 6 or 7 prior to the novel’s release, and then the remaining chapters afterwards. These 10 chapters make up around a fifth of the book. It’s 157,000 words… that’s a long novel!

Here’s a rough summary and a link for everyone to click and go and read the first chapter.

She is light to their darkness, and she breathes life back into him, but can he trust her with his heart and bring himself to believe that the feelings she shows him are real after everything he has been through?

romance e-book releases in 2011

I didn’t get a chance to update my blog at the weekend other than posting my new covers, which have received some seriously positive feedback from readers. Thanks to everyone who replied about them. It’s wonderful to hear your views.

I had wanted to talk more about my upcoming releases. 2011 has 11 planned releases, although at the moment there are only 10 definites. They’re all paranormal romance e-books, but there’s a chance that a sci-fi romance novel might sneak its way into the mix. I have so many ideas for stories at the moment that it’s difficult to tell which will be story number 11.

Here’s a breakdown of my planned releases as it stands. This list is subject to change but mostly that means some might get their dates shifted or switched around.

January 15th 2011 – Love Immortal

I think everyone is going to really enjoy this one and I’m very excited about its release. From next week, I’ll be posting a chapter per week at a special blog I’ve set up for the story. Keep your eyes peeled for it!

February 12th 2011 – Hunter’s Moon
Hunter’s Moon will be my Valentine’s Day release of 2011. And the guy has a serious chip on his shoulder. Sparks will fly!

March 26th 2011 – Ascension
Ascension is an urban fantasy romance novel, mixing one stubborn half-demon hero, Taig, with his ex-lover and just as stubborn witch heroine, Lealandra. When her life is threatened and her Counter-Balance is killed, Lealandra turns to Taig for protection, but 6 years has done nothing to heal the hurt she caused by leaving him for another man and the coven, and he’s not about to help her without her paying a high price! Lealandra understands why Taig is acting up, but she hasn’t touched another man in all the years they’ve been apart. Her heart has remained constant, and only Taig has been in it. Seeing the pain she caused, Lealandra works to soothe it and hopes to finally help Taig face the issues he has about his demonic heritage and open his heart to her.

May 7th 2011 – Her Guardian Angel
The only novel in the Her Angel series, Her Guardian Angel promises to be a thrill ride from page one. Bringing back all of the angels from the first three novellas, this story is packed full of danger and intrigue, and a hero who will steal your heart. Marcus isn’t interested in his new role of protecting Amelia and posing as her neighbour, but when the two start to grow closer and Marcus discovers that Amelia is about to die, it becomes a race against time to save her life. But will he be successful? Can he stop something that has been foretold?

June 18th 2011 – Masquerade
The second story being released in the Vampires Realm series in 2011, Masquerade follows two elite guards as they battle both the threat of vampire hunters and their apparent hatred for each other to protect the lords and ladies of all the pure bloodlines of Europe at the Creator Day masquerade ball! July 30th 2011 – Forbidden Blood

His elusive opponent appears before him in a London back street but a young beautiful woman named Amber hinders Kearn and the man escapes. But all is not lost. The enemy has given Amber a taste of his blood in order to control her and if Kearn’s suspicions are correct, he’ll come after her again. A decision to use her as bait turns into a struggle against a dangerous attraction as they fight to defeat the enemy and protect her life.

September 10th 2011 – The Night
An improved adaptation of my previous and second release in the Tri-Kingdom series, The Night.

October 22nd 2011 – Heart of Darkness
Set in the beautiful city of Prague in the dead of winter, Heart of Darkness is a novel of passion and possession. Aleksandr, once a prince of his vampire kind, has spent four centuries relentlessly pursuing the relatives of the man who murdered his sister and the constant bloodshed is taking its toll on him, turning him towards the darkness and into the beast all vampires once were. Battling the darkness after killing another hunter, Aleksandr meets Elise, a guard of the Cerny bloodline, and she instantly drives the black from his heart and his mind, restoring his balance. Curiosity about the effect she has on him, and her beauty, drive him to pursue her, but the charm that had once helped him have any woman he wanted fails to have an effect on Elise. If he wants to win her, he will have to change his ways and learn how modern men pursue the women they are falling in love with, but it’s a race against time as the darkness threatens to take control. Only Elise’s love can save him, but even then will it be enough when he faces the last hunter and the end of his vendetta?

December 3rd 2011 – Hellcat
A hunter by trade, he can’t resist the lure of a rare species, but is it wise to fall for a Hellcat? This shape-shifting kitty isn’t about to be caught, certainly not by a hunter, and definitely not by the alpha cat pursuing her across the globe, but the two men might just cancel each other out. It takes little more than a flicker of charm and a sultry smile to win the hunter over, but will he be able to keep her rightful mate off her tail long enough for her to escape? And why the heck is she feeling guilty about using the guy for protection?

Phew, that was a lot of writing! Now I just have to decide which story to write for the eleventh one!

Covers for Love Immortal and Hunter’s Moon!

I’ve just put the finishing touches to the covers for my next two releases and wanted to share them with everyone. I get quite excited when I finish covers 🙂

Love Immortal by Felicity Heaton

First cover up is the one for Love Immortal. Love Immortal is a long novel (157,000 words) and will be released on January 15th 2011, so not long to wait for that one. It mixes immortals, gods, werewolves, vampires and people with amazing powers. It’s action-packed, passionate, thrilling and very romantic.

Next up is the cover for Hunter’s Moon. Hunter’s Moon is the next Vampires Realm story and will be released on February 12th 2011, in time for Valentine’s Day. It’s a novella at around 50,000 words, and has a sexy ex-alpha ex-compound werewolf hero and a female vampire of the Nocens bloodline as the heroine. Sparks will fly when these two get together!

Hunter’s Moon by F E Heaton

I’m not going to ask which you prefer… but I will ask what you think of them? Do you feel more excited about the stories now that you’ve seen the covers?

🙂
