When characters change the plot… Her Warrior Angel

Last week was a mixed week for writing. I had hoped to get the update on Her Warrior Angel, the final story in my Her Angel paranormal angel romance e-book series, posted this weekend but Saturday was extremely busy and then I just had to chill out on Sunday as I was heading for meltdown mode. I’m still partially stuck in promo mode and getting everything set up on my new social networking empire. It’s been a bit manic and very distracting, putting me off my writing.

I did manage to get the bulk of Her Warrior Angel written last week, although Einar, the hero, decided that he would change the plot. Cue a bit of a rethink about how to restructure the rest of the plot so it still worked, and then I was back to writing again. Normally I don’t get this problem with my heroes. More often than not, my problem character is a secondary character who doesn’t want to play the role the plot and my muse have assigned to him (er, that’s you Venturi, I hope you’re listening!). It was a nice change to have a hero be the trouble maker this time, and at least he was only changing the plot in a way that I think has actually made it better. I’ll let him off with this one for that reason, and the fact that I hadn’t really plotted and outlined this story 100% (as I usually do) so there was room for manoeuvre.

I have just this morning reached 30,931 words with Her Warrior Angel and have just typed “Chapter 10”, which is the final chapter in this story. It’s going to be a bit longer than the first two stories by the looks of things, but it’s around the same length, so that’s good. I do hate it when I plan out a short series of novellas or short stories and they all wind up vastly different lengths. I’ll get this story wrapped up in first draft today and then it’s straight on to tweaks to Her Fallen Angel, the second story in my Her Angel paranormal angel romance e-book series.

And once that’s done, I’m writing another new story for Christmas!
