Samsung N110 Netbook – A necessary writing tool

Well, it isn’t really, but I’ve had my eye on getting a netbook for a while now as I’m convinced that it will help me with my romance novel writing. See, I currently have a Samsung Q35 laptop which I love to pieces, but it’s 2.5 years old now, and while the battery will go for 3 hours plus still, it just isn’t enough to cover my writing day. The journey to work, a little time pre-work at the office, lunch and the journey home totals around 3 hours 45 minutes, which my laptop usually doesn’t quite make now, so I’ve been having to take in my charger too.

The trouble is, that makes my bag rather heavy. When I only have to take the laptop, it’s bearable with all the walking I do, but the charger really adds to the weight. I’ll continue to use my laptop when I’m writing at home, but I’ll be taking the netbook to work from now on and basically using it like a word processor.

The thing that swung it for me was the fact I could take it to work every day and use it in place of my paper notebooks when I’m writing up notes and planning my stories. You don’t know how often I find I’ve written down a note on a story in some random notebook and have to trawl through my stack of around thirty notebooks searching for where I wrote it! Or how often I have to re-write out notes onto separate pieces of paper when arranging the story notes into order because I’ve written notes for different scenes on the same sheet of paper.

This nifty little netbook should eliminate all of that. Okay, it’s not totally green as I’ll have to print off the notes for the story I’m writing at the time, as I just can’t do that switching windows thing when I’m writing. It drives me crazy and really drags me out of my writing if I have to hop between windows on screen. I’d much rather just let my eyes shift from screen to paper notes. Plus, I touch type so I can write while looking at my notes. Go me! I can’t do that switching between windows on screen.

The only downside is the netbook came with Windows 7 Starter, which is Windows most disgustingly basic OS and their paltry attempt to make you scream, tear your hair out because you can’t even change the wallpaper, and upgrade to Home Premium. I don’t think so. I searched on google and found a way to get around that. Much better now I have my Allelujah Haptism wallpaper which I drew on there!

Okay… I better get on with some more work. I’ve spent this weekend getting most of my romance ebooks into Smashwords. Now I want to make some of my romance novels into paperbacks with Lulu and get them distributed.

There really is no rest for the wicked!
