VR novel is now complete…
Well, last week on Valentine’s Day I finished the first draft of VR Novel. What a romantic day to finish writing it! I thought it was rather sweet.
The future of this story still isn’t set. Right now I need to shift my focus away from it for a while to finish writing Of Blood and Snow, my free serial vampire romance novel. That’s already reached 75000 words and I’ve still got another 30k or so to write.
I’m quite pleased with the first draft of VR Novel. It came out better than expected considering the odd hiccup I had with it and the muse. The ending changed a little, but I didn’t mind. I think this new ending is an improvement and I’m sure one that will be well received by everyone. It’s a very happy ever after.
It ended up being longer than I expected considering that I had my doubts that it would even reach the 80k mark.

A quick post about my current WIP
I’m very tired. I’ve been up all night doing PHP stuff and the dawn has been and gone. I’ll be a zombie for the rest of the day. What’s worse, I didn’t get much done really. I did however find some very inspiring music for writing my paranormals to.
VR Novel is going well. I had wanted to get it finished this week because I was on holiday, but that isn’t going to happen. It seems if I give them muse time at home to work, he gets terribly bored and doesn’t want to write. He only seems to want to write when I’m travelling to work and back, or at lunchtimes. Typical.
I’m hitting the stride to the finale now. We’re standing on the precipice, waiting to fall into darkness and fight our way out again. It’s going to be a little heart-wrenching from here on in, but we’ll battle our way to that HEA. Never fear.
I think that’s all I’ve got in me. I’m so tired!

Sick as a dog *koff*
I’m sick again. This is what comes from looking after your husband… he gets better and you get sick. I don’t like coughing. In fact, besides flu and throwing up, it’s the one I hate most of all. Give me aches, chills, blocked or runny nose, sore throat… I can handle them all! I just can’t deal with the coughing thing. It makes me feel like I have no control. I hate that feeling.
Hey, maybe that’s why all my characters are so headstrong, it’s the inner me seeping into them.
I’m not writing anything right now. I’m dawdling in fact. People want more Of Blood and Snow and I’m happy to give them to them as I’ve got a bit more already proof-read. I need to either be finishing it or starting on writing plot notes for my next novel.
I’ve given myself six months to write and edit this beast as I want it in tip top shape before I make a fool of myself. Yes, that’s right. I’m going to try and reach for the stars next year and send off a novel to some trade publishers. I have to admit that it’s hard to have faith in myself and my abilities, and it’s going to be so easy to just give in and e-publish this story. I’m a sucker for the easy way out. I have to tell myself not to give in and to be strong, even though it’s going to be hard for me. If I don’t try and get trade published, I’ll never know whether I’m good enough or not.
Maria kindly read the opening half of the first chapter and was very nice about it. I can always trust her to be quite honest and not to sugarcoat things too much. She pointed out some things that I could change and it did improve the story. I just need that push when I’m editing and writing it. I need to push myself to use as much of my visual style as possible and to paint the picture of my story in vivid colours.
I don’t like the keyboard with my new desktop computer. The keys are too hard to depress and it takes too much effort to type. It makes my wrists ache and I’ve barely written anything. My laptop is much better. Good job I don’t have to write on this bloody thing all the time! It’s draining!
I’m going to try to keep a diary of sorts for when I’m writing my novel. I’ll refer to it as VR Novel as I don’t want to give away the name and things. I’d rather keep those to myself.
Tired now… I need tea. I’m like a tea-vampire. I need it, crave it, have to have it or I can’t survive. lol.

forthcoming stories, current postings and plans for the future
It’s been so long since I’ve properly updated this blog. I’m talking a normal post like this one, not a promo. The reason is that I’ve been quite busy with website stuff, work and things at home. I have a few minutes now and I fully intend to be more chatty on my blogs over the coming year!
I can’t believe that a year has passed already. It’s gone by so quickly, the blink of an eye, and I’ve not done half the stuff I intended to do, but I did get a lot done.
This year has been wonderful for me since it’s given me so much to sing about. I’ve had two number 1 bestsellers, have been high up the bestselling authors list on fictionwise and have had numberous top 10s. It’s been more than I could’ve asked for and it’s really made me see what a supportive readership I have. I really hope that this support reflects your enjoyment of my writing and that you do love my stories as much as I love them myself.
What have I been up to recently? Well, I’ve got a new story out in January. It’s a free novella in my Vampires Realm series and it’s called Reunion. I’ve also been working on writing a story called Of Blood and Snow, another vampire romance but not set in the VR world. It’s available free on my website ( http://www.felicityheaton.com ) and is posted serially. I’m still writing it and it’s surpassing my guestimate of 60’000 words tops as it’s now 73’000 words and still going. I think it will be 100’000 by the time I’m done with it. I’ll have to begin posting double chapters each week!
My plans for the future aren’t private. It’s my hope next year to try and get trade published by one of the big houses or get myself an agent. My first target is to get published by one of the many houses that accepts manuscripts from authors without agents. I’m writing a Vampires Realm novel in an attempt to do this and I’ve been collating notes for it. I’m very excited about this novel and I know that readers will love it whether it comes out with one of the big boys, or with someone else. I think it’s the ideal candidate for attempting to break into publishing with or getting myself an agent.
I’m also going to try to re-edit Prophecy and get that published, but it’s more difficult as it’s a trilogy and it’s harder to get publishers to take a punt on unknown authors if the books follow on from one another.
I have more Vampires Realm novels to write next year too, and would like to find time to write some non-VR stories also.
All in all, it’s going to be a busy year for me, but it’s going to be a fun one too… and also one full of fear, hopes, dreams and hard work. I hope you’ll all stick with me!

Spellbound
What’s a girl to do when the two men she loves are suddenly her love slaves?
A vampire and leader of her bloodline, Prophecy celebrates her Death Day in style with a two night ball. Everyone is there, but all she can think about is getting her mate, Valentine, to unwind for once. When Valentine asks her to leave her own party and wait for him in her room, she sees it as a chance to lure him into bed and work out his kinks.
Flicking through her magic book, she finds spell after spell about love and lust, and is surprised when she discovers one that will make someone into a love slave! Unable to resist the idea of having Valentine at her command, she casts the spell, only things don’t go as planned.
Valentine arrives and the spell is cast on him, but it hits someone else too—the other man in her heart, Venturi!
So what’s a girl to do when her only wish has just come true and she’s got both of the men she loves as her willing slaves, and it seems they’re more than happy to share her? Passion, love and lust come to the surface in this highly erotic story that will leave you spellbound.

Reunion
Well, there was a gap in my schedule so I decided to begin writing another of the Vampires Realm stories. This time it’s a novella entitled Reunion. It’s about the Law Keeper for Venia, Marise, and her ex-lover Jascha. When she’s called back to investigate an incident, the last person she wants to see is Jascha but it turns out he’s been severely injured during the attack. She can’t help her feelings and, even though it brings back all the pain behind their parting, she can’t help wanting to see him. Maybe fifty years is long enough to heal her heart and his, and maybe it’s time for her to tell him the truth about a few things. Add to that a threat in the form of a new breed of vampire hunter, and we’re in for a fun time!
I didn’t get it finished this week as planned because I made it to the love scene and found I was all out of writing energy when it came to that kind of scene. Writing Spellbound really used up all my sex scene writing for a while… It’s good now though, I’ve got past the scene and I’m into the final two chapters.
Although, this one won’t be out until Jan 2008… good things come to those who wait.

another erotic paranormal story
I’ve just finished the first draft of Spellbound, the Prophecy & Venturi & Valentine threesome story that Maria goaded me into writing. It’s only a short/novella, but it’s ultra-hot and it was really fulfilling to write since I’d always secretly wanted Prophecy to give in to her love for Venturi.
It’s a Vampires Realm story and will be released in October. I need to get the edits done on it now, but I can’t see those causing me much grief.
I’ve made the cover for it and it’s as hot as the book! lol. I’m really getting into making covers recently, which is a good job with all the releases coming up.
Hopefully this story will be able to repeat the success of In Heat. This one truly is erotic romance though.
I’m about to begin writing In Heat: Mating Call. I have a total fear that it’s going to be a flop and nowhere near as good as the first book. I’m sure once I get writing, I’ll feel better about it. I’m reading In Heat right now to get the characters back into my head again so I can write them. I do love them both.
I did my first edit on The Night the other day and I’m actually really pleased with it. It was the first story I’ve written in a long time, so it was nice to see the talent still there!

New romance stories…
It’s been a busy few weeks for me. I’ve been writing new stories, refreshing old ones, and getting a whole set of releases ready.
Killing Game comes out this weekend and it will be nice to see my very first original novel back on the market. It’s had a revamp since it first came out and I’ve improved it in places. I loved exploring Cain, and it’s truly his story, showing his darkness and at the same time giving readers a real feel for his fight for redemption and his desire to cleanse himself so he can be with Lily. I have always loved hit men, and even wanted to be one as a child (although my inability to kill things would have eventually done my dream in. I’d make a great Buddhist)
I’ve been working on getting my historical pirate romance twosome, The Merciless and The Merciless: Vengeance, ready for re-release later in the autumn. Final edits have been done on paper because I was sorely lacking a laptop at the time and I always spot more errors when I read off paper. I just need to suffer through the laborious task of transferring all the corrections into the word document and then I’m done with those two books and they’ll be ready for release.
Since getting my new laptop, I’ve been writing again. First up was The Night, which I now have the rough first draft of penned. It’s a fantasy romance set in my Tri-Kingdom series and is only a short at 16000 words, but it still packs a punch and is a great introduction to this new world of mine. It’s completely fantasy, a whole new world with little resemblance to our own. There’s a myriad of characters to explore, including elementals, vampires, werewolves, sky pirates, sea pirates, witches, wizards, faeries, elves and the reigning empires monarchies, to name but a few. It’s going to be very colourful and involving, and I’m very excited about writing more in this series as I really get to let go.
Okay, I do get to let go when I’m writing my Vampires Realm series too, but not to this extent. There are rules in the VR world that clearly can’t be broken as it’s set in our world. With the Tri-Kingdom series, I have free rein to do as I want.
Which neatly brings me onto the Vampires Realm series…
I’m writing a new story for it, a short that my fellow author Maria urged me into writing because she really wanted Venturi and Prophecy to get together. When I offered up a mention of maybe writing a story involving Prophecy, Venturi AND Valentine, she was relentless in convincing me to go ahead with it. So, I’m now writing a ProVenTine story (nifty shipper word, huh? PROphecy VENturi valentine in case you were wondering… does sound like a Roman general though).
The short story in question is being written as I speak, or type if you like, and I’ve clocked up 9000 words of it in just a day and a bit. Not bad, if I do say so myself. It’s very hot, extremely burn-your-hands hot. It has the potential to burst into flames on my laptop! I hope it doesn’t since I’ve only just got the bugger and would like to keep it in one piece.
It’s entitled Spellbound and has jumped the queue somewhat, leaping over Reunion and In Heat: Mating Call to be written first. I don’t mind as it means I get to release it earlier, which is always exciting. I had scheduled it in for a Jan 2008 date, but I might be able to get it out for Halloween. I’ve decided that I like being able to write on the fly, shifting my schedule around to suit. I’ve got release dates reserved as I know I’ll always have something ready for them, but it’s pot-luck which story it is. Stories seem to flow better if I write what I’m in the mood to write and throw the schedule out of the window!
In terms of the heat level for Spellbound, think In Heat and then add some. I’m really exploring the power of a threesome here, and of course a vampiric threesome is always going to be hotter than your average one. I may even bring in a little bondage, magical of course, since it’s Prophecy involved. Interestingly I’m writing it strictly from her POV. I just started out that way and it seems to fit the story nicely.
Next on the cards once this has been written is In Heat: Mating Call, the sequel to my bestseller In Heat (sold 800 copies to date, not bad for roughly 8 weeks on the market, and spent 3 weeks at number 1 in Erotica on Fictionwise). The sequel introduces another character, this time a rival for Erik. The dreams return and are hotter than ever since there’s now another man involved, Prince Kristian of Denmark – a white tiger shapeshifter. I’ve got it all plotted out and scene plans written. I should be able to start writing it next week, once I’ve read over In Heat for a refresher on the characters and have finished writing Spellbound.
I’ve got a couple of covers to make. I’ve done the roughs for In Heat: Mating Call and have ideas in my head for Spellbound and Cabin Fever (a winter 2007 release). I just need to get around to making them. None of them are going to be turned into paperbacks, so I won’t need to fork out too much hard cash to get them made.
Wow, that’s a big update!
I’m really proud of In Heat for selling so well. I can’t wait to get cracking on the sequel, and while I have an inkling that I may well write a third story for Prince Kristian, I’m not going to make any promises. I do like the stories, but I’m not sure whether or not they should become a series. I’ll see how I feel. There’s a lot of stories that I can write along these lines but I don’t want to end up writing same-old same-old stuff. I know most HQN novels are just rehashes of the same plot with the odd difference, but I don’t want to go there just to make money.
