Snippet Saturday – Holding out for a Heroine – Her Guardian Angel (Her Angel romance series book 4)

It’s time for Snippet Saturday! Each week has a theme or is author’s choice. This week the theme is Holding out for a Heroine.

This week my snippet comes from Her Guardian Angel, which is the fourth book in my Her Angel romance series.

It’s a long snippet this week because I really love this scene right at the beginning of the book and wanted to share it in full. Marcus is an angel of the guardian division, and has watched over Amelia her whole life, but has no clue as to why he is meant to guard her because his superiors won’t give him much information on his mission. He’s a few thousand years old but has little interest in interacting with humans, and has spent the past few centuries in Heaven because his wings were bound by a curse. This scene takes place shortly after Amelia’s ex-boyfriend has been banging down her door in the dead of night and Marcus intervened, and she has lured him into her apartment to ice his knuckles.

When selecting the snippet for last week’s post from the fifth book in my Her Angel romance series, Her Demonic Angel, I found another snippet from earlier in the book that I really wanted to share but that didn’t fit the theme… so I’m going to use it this week for my author’s choice post!

This is much earlier in the novel, just after Veiron has rescued Erin from the clutches of his master, the Devil, and is trekking with her through Hell. He’s found a safe place for her to rest, but Erin can’t sleep.

Future Paranormal Romance Book Releases News

This is a new feature for my blog. I get emails, Facebook comments and Tweets asking me about whether or not certain series will get another book, when I’ll be releasing a certainÂ book, and other questions related to future releases, so I wanted to try to answer all those questions on my blog before they ever come up. My blog is always the place to go to if you want to know what I’m working on, as I blog regularly about my writing and my future releases here.

The questions I’m getting asked the most right now are variations on the theme of…

Is there going to be another book in the Her Angel series because Her Demonic Angel rocked my world!

The answer to this question is yes, I will be writing more books in the Her Angel romance series. I have been asked this question so much in the months after Her Demonic Angel‘s release that I actually asked a few of the readers if they felt the series had come to a natural conclusion. I hadn’t noticed that it felt that way, but several readers assured me that it felt as if this was the end of the series. No, it isn’t. There will be more books.

I’m committing to writing one for definite, possibly two, and maybe more. The definite is Asmodeus’s book, which will hopefully be out around the same time of year as Her Demonic Angel was, in September this year. I can’t commit to a firm date. It all depends on my ever-shifting schedule. I’m still in the planning stages for Asmodeus’s book. There’s no title for the book yet. The plot is bare bones in my head and in a word document, but I’ll be able to work on it soon, and it will blossom into one hell of a wild adventure for our angels.

I had a few people ask if Nevar would be the next hero. No, he won’t, because right now he’s going through some changes and they will lead to his book. You can read his journey in monthly episodes in my newsletter.

Is Snow ever going to get a book and will it be out tomorrow?!?

I know people are desperate for Snow to get his happily forever after in the Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series, and I can assure you that it is happening. You might have seen the posts here from when I was writing the first draft in January, or perhaps you’ve seen the quotes I post on my Facebook fan page from the book.

Snow’s book is Unleash. You can read about my work on it by clicking that link. It will take you to all the posts related to the book on my blog, with the newest first.

I have no set date for the release of Unleash. I hoped to have it out in late spring 2013 before I decided to write a complete first draft of the first Eternal Mates series book rather than just a third of it for a proposal for my agent. I still intend to have it out before summer. At the moment, I’m thinking it will come out some time in May. I am working my backside off on getting the book in your hands, I swear it. It’s the longest book in the series, close to 100,000 words. It took me a few weeks to write it, and I have to edit it, polish it, and get it proofed before it’s ready to hit virtual shelves. Considering I only finished writing it in January, a May release is a very quick turnaround for a book this length.

Will there be more books in the Vampires Realm series?

Yes, there will be. I had wanted to get another released this year. I’m not sure if it’s a possibility. My schedule became very messed up when I decided to write the first Guardians of Hades novel last year, intending to use it for the series proposal for my agent. I had a change of heart about that but it didn’t mean I got those weeks back. I really want to get the next two Vampires Realm books out as soon as I can, and I’ll try to make one happen this year. I think it’s possible.

The next book in the series will be Hunger, which is Tor and Eve’s book. Eve is Lilith’s sister (the heroine of Seventh Circle). Eve is mentioned in that book, and also in Masquerade. Tor is also mentioned in Masquerade, and was featured in a flash fiction here on my blog last year.

Other questions I get asked are about the Vampire Venators series and the Shadow & Light Trilogy.

Do I intend to write more for these two series, despite the fact that I currently don’t have any books listed against them? Yes, I do. I switched Forbidden Blood and Ascension away from being listed as the first books in the Vampire Venators and Shadow & Light Trilogy because they failed to generate a lot of interest, and because I had far too many commitments and had to decide which series to pursue at the time. I’m only one woman, and unfortunately that means I can’t keep up with all these different series. I had to focus on a selected few, and Vampires Realm, Her Angel, and Vampire Erotic Theatre won the toss because sales were far stronger for those series. It pained me to put aside these two series, but it was a business decision and it was necessary.

Do I know when I will be releasing more books in these two series? No, I don’t. I desperately want to write them though. There are two more books planned in the Vampire Venators series, possibly three to complete the series. I have two novels and a novella to write for the Shadow & Light Trilogy. I hope I can have better news about these two series when I write another future releases post.

WIP Wednesday – A New Series, Plus Updates on Bonded By Blood and Unleash

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged about my writing projects and what I’ve been doing. I’ve been super busy trying to catch up with everything after coming back from my holiday. It’s taken longer than expected, and I’m still not fully caught up yet. I’ve had to drop some of my regular blogging in favour of just keeping on top of other things, and I’m still behind!

I have been able to get some work done on two of the projects I was meant to be working on over the past week and a half, plus I added a new project to that work schedule too.

I don’t exactly need a new project right now, but I’m glad this idea came to me and I’ve had fun exploring it. I’m going to keep exploring it too. I don’t have a name for the series just yet, but it involves a world full of different dimensions, a whole cast of fae species from humans to demons and angels, to elves, vampires, shifters, werewolves, and lesser known fae species, plus demigods and demigoddesses, and sorceresses, etc. I already have around 18,000 words of notes for the series, and solid ideas for the first three books. I’m torn between the first three heroes too and really love their heroines, which is unsual for me. Normally, it’s the heroes who are in control when I’m planning books, not the heroines. They tend to keep quiet and let the man do the talking. These heroines have been really brash, chatty, and pushy. It makes a change, and it’s a nice one. I like being able to have scene ideas from both the hero and heroines POV, and having a clear image of the heroine in my head in terms of her personality, history, etc. Like I said, it doesn’t happen often. The train station in my head is normally filled with a lot of testosterone filled males trying to push me around. I rely on the muse to keep them in line. I’m not sure the muse knows what to do with the trio of women in my head. He’s wary of females, because they don’t often want to play poker with him, unless it’s in the strip sense. My muse tends to subdue impatient heroes with poker. He has little skill or experience in subduing females.

I’ve also been working on the Bonded by Blood series for my agent. The first book is shaping up but so much about the series is still unclear to me. I think that it’s always this way for me when I’m trying to plan a series that has a linear story arc running throughout all the books. I need to know roughly where it’s going in each book and what gets revealed, what we learn about the overall plot of the series and the antagonists. It is much harder to plan a series where the books are linked in that way. I think that’s why I have three clear novel plots for the new series I mentioned above, but I’m struggling with this one. The new idea isn’t a series linked by a single plot arc. It’s more like Vampires Realm, and it’s linked by the world. That’s what I’m used to writing and it always offers more scope. I can bounce around tackling different ideas and plots, with the option of linking them up to other books if that’s how the book wants to go. Bonded by Blood is more like my Guardians of Hades series that I’ve been working on in that it has a single antagonist behind the plot that will run throughout the series, and it’s a slow reveal as to who that person is. It does take a lot more thinking, planning, and general brain power to pull the whole series together, and you have to know how it’s going to go for at least the first three books and what will happen in the end.

The other book I’ve been working on is Unleash, which will be the sixth book in my Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series and is Snow’s book. Did I hear screams of joy then? Who threw those panties?

Yes, I’ve been trying to cajole Snow into telling me all about his romance and what happened in it. He’s been quite elusive, which isn’t like the big fella, but we’re slowly piecing together the outline of his novel. The trouble is, it’s likely to be longer than I had originally planned (surprise, surprise! what is it with these boys? They always want a longer book than I want to give them) so it will take longer to write and edit to near-perfection. I really wanted the book to come out in April for my birthday, but the calendar is telling me that is nigh on impossible when I factor in my commitments to pulling together the Bonded by Blood series for my agent, and working on the outline and first drafts of other stories I want to release in 2013, such as the next Her Angel book and maybe another Vampires Realm story, although that series isn’t doing very well for me right now, so I’m not feeling inclined to write it at the moment.

I’ll be lucky if Unleash will become available in May or June. I can’t really set a date for it at the moment. I know you’re eager for the book, but I won’t put anything out there that isn’t ready to be released. Patience. As soon as it’s ready, it will come out.

It doesn’t seem I’ve been making much progress of late does it? I’ve been all over the place and lacking focus, but I’m pulling it back together now and I think that by the time the New Year rolls around, I’ll be back on form and whizzing through these projects!

Erin looked into his dark eyes for long seconds, and then whispered, â€œCan I see your eyes again?â€

He didnâ€™t hesitate this time. His irises changed, glowing like embers in the low light.

â€œTheyâ€™re amazing.â€ She stared at all the threads of gold in the crimson, making them her sole focus so she could push away the creeping fear about what Veiron had called her power and the things she had witnessed. â€œTheyâ€™re like fire… can I see your wings too?â€

Veiron nodded. He slipped his arm out from beneath her and she sat up with him. He moved to kneel in front of her, unbuttoned his black shirt, and peeled it off. His body distracted her, all delicious hard muscle and masculine strength that she wanted to run her hands over and kiss. Erin dragged her gaze away from it, back to his eyes. His wings slowly appeared, growing out of his back, the crimson feathers shining in the light. He stretched them, flapped once, and then brought them to rest. The longer feathers brushed the mattress on his right side and the floor to his left.

Erin held the covers around her with one hand and reached out with her other. She ran her hand down the soft feathers of his left wing, following the curve. Veiron closed his eyes and sighed.

â€œDoes that feel good?â€ she whispered, shaky and nervous. It looked as though it did. Sheâ€™d had a few lovers in her time but they had all been human. Veiron was an angel, whether he was in service of the Devil or not. She wasnâ€™t sure what angels liked or what sort of things would give him pleasure. If he could feel such a thing. The blissful look on his face said that he could and the woman on the floor below, his ex-lover, had told her that Veiron was a fantastic lover, and a very protective male. That had left Erin feeling a little ill. She didnâ€™t like the thought of Taylor with Veiron, or the thought of trying to best that woman. If Veiron had left Taylor, how was she supposed to find a way to convince him to stay with her?

â€œI havenâ€™t been touched like this in a long time,â€ he murmured and swallowed when she flattened her palm and stroked the layers of his feathers.

â€œSince Taylor?â€ She hated that thought.

Veironâ€™s red eyes flicked open. He shook his head. â€œBefore her. She never touched me like this. I donâ€™t think anyone has ever touched me the way that you do.â€

Erin swallowed, suddenly aware that the only thing that stood between them was a thin duvet. Her pulse raced and blood heated. She kept stroking his crimson feathers, feeling their softness and warmth, savouring the way her touch had Veiron struggling to breathe. His chest heaved, muscles straining, and his eyes burned into her, hot with desire, pupils dilated and reflecting the hunger that she felt within her.

She shook, afraid of where this was leading but unable to bring herself to stop. Veiron was so handsome and strong, so masculine and powerful, immense, and she had felt drawn to him from the moment they had met. Taylor was right about him, but the woman didnâ€™t know the depth of his feelings and warmth. Erin knew. When this man loved, he gave all of himself, and would do all in his power to protect the one he cherished.

Erin wanted to be that one for him.

She wanted to be the one who held him and gave him strength, and made him feel it was all right to let down his guard with her because she would never hurt him. She would cherish him, would do all in her power to protect him, just as he would her.

He reached out to her and she inhaled sharply as he caught her arm. He moved it aside and the covers fell away to reveal her bare breasts. Erin closed her eyes and swallowed when his hot hands moulded over her breasts and he groaned.

â€œI want you,â€ he husked and she moaned, nodded, shivered right down to her soul.

â€œI want you too.â€ She barely finished her sentence before his mouth swooped on hers and he had her pinned to the bed beneath him, kissing the breath from her.
