Happy New Year – 2015 release plans for my paranormal romance books and more!

facebook-newyear-2015

Happy New Year! My post is a little late but I was caught up in the craziness of releasing Hunted by a Jaguar (Eternal Mates paranormal romance series book 4) on January 6th and things haven’t really settled down yet as my next release, Craved by an Alpha (Eternal Mates paranormal romance series book 5) hits virtual shelves on January 27th. It’s all go in 2015!

I wanted to make a post looking back at how wonderful 2014 has been for me, thanks to you guys, and what’s in store for me in 2015.

2014 rocked! Together with a fantastic group of authors, I became a New York Times bestseller and hit the USA Today bestsellers list again. The Eternal Mates series really took off, much to my joy as I love writing in this world, and now I can happily write books for it to my heart’s content. I met plenty of wonderful new readers on my social networks, received some amazing reviews for my books, and I think I strengthened existing bonds with my readers. I also managed to smash my word count target for the year, hammering away 569,000 words to beat the 400,000 words goal. I even hit my reading target of devouring 20 books during my down time!

I’m hoping that 2015 will rock just as hard! I have exciting plans with the same group of authors I’ve been working with the past couple of years, lots of book releases on the cards if the gods are kind and let my schedule run as planned, intend to read another 20 books, and I have another 400,000 word count to achieve. How am I going to achieve that word count?

Well, regulars to my blog or Facebook will know I’m currently working on wrapping up book 7 in my Eternal Mates series, which will release in March. Once this book is done, I’ll be working on a novella for the Vampire Erotic Theatre series, one for the Eternal Mates series, and one for the Her Angel series. After those are done, I’ll be editing the first book in my Guardians of Hades series and writing the next two novels. I’m also hopeful that I can get a novella written for the Vampires Realm series and ready for release towards the end of the year. As I said above, this is all dependent on the gods being kind and my muse being as productive as ever.

Here’s what my release schedule will hopefully look like when we’re looking back on it in January 2016 in my New Year’s post then:

January 6th 2015 – Hunted by a Jaguar (Eternal Mates #4)
January 27th 2015 – Craved by an Alpha (Eternal Mates #5)
February 17th 2015 – Bitten by a Hellcat (Eternal Mates #6)
March 10th 2015 – Taken by a Dragon (Eternal Mates #7)
May 2015 – Untitled Novella (Vampire Erotic Theatre #6.5) – Victor and Elizabeth’s story
June 2015 – Untitled Novella/Novel (Eternal Mates #8) – Harbin’s story
July 2015 – Untitled Her Angel Novella (Her Angel #7.5) – the Devil’s story
Date TBC 2015 – Ares (Guardians of Hades #1)
Date TBC 2015 – Valen (Guardians of Hades #2)
Date TBC 2015 – Esher (Guardians of Hades #3)
Date TBC 2015 – Untitled Novella (Vampires Realm) – Tynan’s story

I may or may not manage the final one. It all depends on time really. It might end up pushed for another book entirely or just moved into early 2016. Or a bit of both.

So, leave a comment and be sure to let me know whether you’re excited about my release line up this year!

WIP Wednesday – Hunted by a Jaguar & Craved by an Alpha (Eternal Mates Paranormal Romance Series Books 4 & 5) and more!

I’m fighting to bring WIP Wednesdays back when I’m actively working on a book… but normally I’m so engrossed in writing that I kinda forget to make a WIP Wednesday post, and then I’ve finished the book in first draft!

If you follow me on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/felicityheaton then you know what I’m up to, but if you haven’t followed me yet, here’s an update. If you are a follower, then you’ll know most of this, but you’ll get that tasty sneak preview snippet I made you vote for!

Right now, I’ve just completed the first drafts of the next two books in my Eternal Mates romance series. Hunted by a Jaguar is Kyter and Iolanthe’s story, and that’s the next book in the series. You remember Kyter? He’s that sexy jaguar shifter who runs Underworld, the nightclub in Kissed by a Dark Prince. The bonus is, you’ll be seeing Bleu in action again in his book since they’re kinda buddies now. Bachelors have to stick together.

The other book I’ve just finished in first draft is Craved by an Alpha. No, it’s not about werewolves. It’s about a delicious snow leopard shifter. You’ll get to meet Cavanaugh briefly in Kyter’s book as these two big kitties work together at the nightclub. Cavanaugh’s heroine is Eloise. Craved by an Alpha is a novella, and it’s around half the length of the novels in the series.

Now that I’m done with writing these two, I’ve set them aside to rest while I plan the next book in the Eternal Mates series, Bitten by a Hellcat, which is another novella.

Yes, I’m having a run on this series, and absolutely loving it!

The plan as it stands is that I will release the next four books in the Eternal Mates romance series close together, only a few weeks between each release. The current release plan for the books is for them to go in this order:

Jan 10th – Hunted by a Jaguar
Jan 31st – Craved by an Alpha
Feb 21st – Bitten by a Hellcat
Mar 14th – Taken by a Dragon

There’s a chance I could release them about a month earlier for each release… would you like that?

Once I’ve written Bitten by a Hellcat, I’m planning and writing Taken by a Dragon, which is novel length and it’s Anais the hunter and her story. Remember her? She got snatched by a pesky dragon in Claimed by a Demon King. Well, that dragon is Loke and he might have Anais holed up in his cave somewhere in the dragon realm in Hell and a certain sassy huntress turned demon queen might be on a warpath to get her fellow huntress back. I think Loke needs to watch his back…

I know what you’re thinking… that’s a lot of books! Don’t worry though. I’m not using up all my release spots for 2015 in one fell swoop.

I’m also planning to write and release in 2015:
A Vampire Erotic Theatre series novella
A Her Angel series novella
Guardians of Hades books 1-3

And maybe a Vampires Realm novella if I really work some magic!

Now, how about a sneak preview snippet from Hunted by a Jaguar? I asked my Facebook followers what they wanted and they chose this book…

A little backstory… this is close to the start of the book, and Kyter’s first face-to-face meeting with his heroine, Iolanthe. Kyter is being a naughty kitty by trying to make his unflappable heroine blush and trying to win her over as they’re both after the same object…

Happy New Year – What paranormal romance hotness do I have for you in 2014?

As you can see, the subject of today’s post is all about the paranormal romance hotness I have in store for you in 2014. I’m also going to update those frequently asked questions I get from readers about my series and books so you all know what’s happening. I like to keep you in the loop.

But first, what do you have to look forward to in 2014? All of my release dates are tentative and subject to change. If the muse cooperates and life doesn’t throw curveballs at me, I should be able to stick to these release dates…

Claimed by a Demon King (Eternal Mates #2) – 22nd February 2014
Hunger (Vampires Realm #8) – 10th May 2014
Ares (Guardians of Hades #1) – 26th July 2014
Nevar’s book (Her Angel #7) – 27th September 2014
Vail’s book (Eternal Mates #3) – 29th November 2014

I hope that has elicited a few excited squeals from the crowd. Each of these books will be a full length novel. I will probably kick off 2015 with the second book in the Guardians of Hades series.

Now, as for the questions…

Will Nevar’s book be the final one in the Her Angel series?
No, and yes. It is the final book in this current sweeping arc that is running through the series. I will be writing more stories in the Her Angel world though, and that series will be called Angels of the Apocalypse. I have tentative plans for 4 or 5 novels in that series. It will either be dual-labelled (i.e. Her Angel #8 / Angels of the Apocalypse #1) or just listed as Angels of the Apocalypse. It will still be tagged with the Her Angel label on my blog though.

You can keep up to date with my progress on the series here at my blog by viewing posts with the Her Angel tag: http://www.felicityheaton.com/blog/category/romance-series/her-angel-series/

Will there be more books in the Vampire Erotic Theatre series?
No. The series is complete at six books. However, you will catch up with the members of the Vampirerotique family in some of the Eternal Mates series books. There’s a sneaky cameo in Kissed by a Dark Prince, but you’ll get to visit the theatre in Claimed by a Demon King.

You can keep up to date with my progress on the series here at my blog by viewing posts with the Eternal Mates tag: http://www.felicityheaton.com/blog/category/romance-series/eternal-mates/

When the hell is Hyperion getting his damned book in the Vampires Realm series?
2015! Yes, that’s right. I will write Hyperion’s romance as the next book in the Vampires Realm series after Hunger. I expect to have it ready for release in 2015. After this book comes out, I will probably wrap up the Vampires Realm series to focus on more popular series.

Excited about my releases in 2014? Do you have any other questions? Feel free to ask them in the comments and I’ll answer them!

WIP Wednesday – Her Wicked Angel (Her Angel Romance Series Book 6) with new sneak peek

It has been an eventful two weeks since I wrote my last WIP Wednesday post. Sorry I missed last week. I was deep in edits on Her Wicked Angel and completely forgot what day it was until Friday!

Her Wicked Angel is now edited and resting, awaiting a few rounds of proofreading to finish it off and polish it to perfection. The edit went surprisingly smoothly, and my beta readers were invaluable. I decided to tweak the ending to make it better, and now I’m sure you will love it. Asmodeus is one serious bad boy and Liora is pretty kick-ass.

Not only did I get the edit of the book finished, but I’ve also designed the cover and have written the rough blurb for the book. I can’t reveal the complete cover until August 26th, when there will be a huge reveal across a lot of blogs, including my own. The picture above is a snippet from the cover though (tweaked and with added text), so you can really get a feel for how awesome it is. I think it’s better than the Her Demonic Angel cover and I’m expecting a few rounds of “holy hotness!” when it is finally revealed on August 26th.

The book is now on my Kindle, waiting for me to read it when I’m away next week, soaking up some sun and culture in Dubrovnik. I’m sure that the old town part of that city will become the setting for something in a future novel. I’m expecting to be really inspired by it as it’s beautiful.

I’m not sure what’s next on my agenda. Probably proofreading Eternal Mates book one, getting the cover done for it and getting the blurb written. Then I’ll be working on the next Eternal Mates book (CANNOT WAIT!) and after that the first Guardians of Hades novel.

Remember, the official release date for HER WICKED ANGEL is September 21st.

Not long now, really. It’s already August and September will be here before you know it.

To tide you over, how about a new snippet of the book?

Month in Review – March 2013

March was a mixed month for me. I spent most of it working on the edits of Unleash so it will be ready for the May 18th 2013 release date. I also had some time off for good behaviour in Barcelona and Scotland.

During my time off in Barcelona, I devoured the first book in the upcoming Eternal Mates series because I had an urge to read it, even though it’s only first draft right now. I really like this new series and venturing further into the same world as the Vampire Erotic Theatre series is based in. I’m excited about writing the next two books for the series so I can get all three of them released close together.

When I was up in Scotland, I decided to read over the first book in my upcoming Guardians of Hades series. I liked it. It’s a very different feel to the first Eternal Mates book, but I think that’s about the characters. The heroine in the Guardians of Hades book is less spunky than the one in the Eternal Mates series. It’s more like my usual brand of paranormal romance books – less humour, more darkness and drama. I’m also excited about getting more books in the Guardians of Hades series under my belt.

I do feel in a strange place right now with my books. I’m approaching the end of the Vampire Erotic Theatre series with Unleash, even though it’s not the end of those characters as they’ll make appearances in the Eternal Mates series. I’m also getting close to the end of the Her Angel series unless I continue it with another, different story arc. The next book is for Asmodeus and then I might write a book for Nevar. I’ll see how I feel after Asmodeus’s book as that’s a bit of a game changer again. This is one series I write that doesn’t have a defined direction and never has. It sort of grows as I write it and develops its own arc.

I need to write another Vampires Realm series book but I think that series needs a major overhaul in the marketing department at least. It doesn’t sell as well as my Her Angel and Vampire Erotic Theatre series. I think it’s because it’s reached ten books now. It’s more difficult to keep getting good sales figures with the books. I need to think about what to do with it to make it sell better. I do have more books I want to write for that series, so I don’t want to see it die.

Back to positive thoughts…

Unleash is coming along nicely though. I’m feeling the pressure a little with this one, but this is Snow’s book, like it or leave it. It’s what he wanted and it’s his story, and that’s all I can write in the end. I know some readers have very definite ideas of what his story should be, so I hope this doesn’t disappoint. I’m going to have it completed by next week, pending proofreading sessions, and then I can begin working on my next book and put Unleash out of my head until the release day rolls around.

April will hopefully be a better month for me as I’ll get to write again. I hate it when I get stuck in an editing rut and I’m just constantly working on that side of what I do. I like to mix up writing and editing but sometimes it just isn’t possible and I end up spending 8 weeks just editing before I can get writing again. I would hire editors, but to be honest, I don’t think it would save me much time in the end. I would still want to do a full edit as a second draft, and then a second polishing edit, and then rounds of proofreading. I’m obsessed with quality, and don’t feel I’m putting out my best books unless I edit them this many times over so I can catch everything and make it the best it can be.

What I really need is more hours in the day for writing! I’m always desperate to get more books written and have so many on my to write pile… I definitely need more writing time and less time spent on marketing and other things, but that’s the nature of the beast. I have to market my books otherwise they don’t reach readers and sell! I do need to get marketing down to a fine, fast art though, or find a way to get someone else to market for me!

Any suggestions?

Month in Review – February

I’m back for another month in review post. What did I get up to in February?

Well, I wrote the first draft of the first book in my new series, Eternal Mates. It took me 11 writing days in total to complete the 95000 words in the book. That’s pretty good going even for me! I really enjoyed playing in this world and I have so many more books I want to write for it. The further I got into the book, the more I began debating whether I wanted to use this book to approach NYC for a book contract, and whether I wanted a big publisher at all. I had concerns about non-competition clauses and whether it would negatively impact my indie books, and personally, I have such fantastic fans that I’m making enough money to be a full time writer. The only thing NYC can offer me is better distribution and maybe a little kudos. Not enough to make me risk that non-competition problem though!

Eternal Mates book one is now going to sit around for a while until I’ve been able to edit Unleash, and write the next Her Angel book, and possibly the next Vampires Realm book too. I’m yet to decide the release schedule for 2014, but expect to see the series then, and hopefully it will be a few books in the series too. Ideally, I’d love to release the first three Guardians of Hades books and the first two Eternal Mates books in 2014.

I printed out the first draft of Unleash in preparation for entering the second draft and then read the book over. It’s better than I had expected. Reader anticipation and expectation for this book is really high and I admit I’m feeling the pressure. That’s why writing the Eternal Mates series was so great and refreshing. Absolutely no expectations about that one! I know people are waiting for this one, and have been since January 2012 when Covet came out. I need to make Unleash the best it can be though and that means it will hit shelves when I feel it’s ready, and not before. I’ll be working on the second draft in March. The plan right now is that the book will come out in May 2013.

I also announced that while Unleash will be the final book in the Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series, it won’t be our last visit to the theatre. This is because I’m no longer going to use Eternal Mates to get myself an NYC book contract. I debated the pros and cons of getting a contract with a big publisher, and right now there are more cons than pros. Because I decided to indie publish Eternal Mates, it means I can go ahead with the original plan for the series, which is it being based in the Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series world. I couldn’t have done that if I had decided to approach NYC with the book because they wouldn’t be interested in a series tied to one of my indie series.

I also spent a week trying to get my marketing plan together and all my marketing information into order. I have so much research on this subject and most of it was scribbled on pieces of paper. I had to type it all up and then use that to construct a really solid book marketing plan, as well as a general marketing plan for myself as an author, aka my brand.

As for my time keeping. Even with writing the first draft of the Eternal Mates book, I only managed to get a 55% against writing in Toggl. I seem to spend most of my time dealing with emails and book tours, and blogging. I thought it would be social networking eating up my time, but alas, it’s not. It’s all the admin sort of things I have to do. There has to be a way to get more writing time!

All for now. I’ll be back next month to look back at my progress in March.

WIP Wednesday – Eternal Mates Series and Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series book 6) with Sneak Peek!

I’m talking about two different series today, and two rather different books. I finished the first draft of the first book in the Eternal Mates series on Saturday, and the completed book is around 94500 words. I wrote this first draft in a record 11 days, which is quite impressive, even if I do say so myself. I haven’t decided what I’m doing with it yet. I’ve been debating the future of the series and whether it will be another one I indie publish. The more I read about NYC and book contracts and publishers at the moment, the more reluctant I am to hand over this book. I’m not sure why I want an NYC deal now. Five years ago, when indie books were few and far between and ebooks were going nowhere slowly, NYC seemed fantastic and an amazing place to be. Now, I’m not so sure. I make a living as an indie writer, I have fantastic readers who are all amazingly supportive and always seem to be chomping at the bit for my next book. I’m not sure what NYC can offer me that I can’t do or achieve for myself. Do you guys care that I’m not a big NYC published author?

There are so many variables when it comes to NYC, and every chance that a book contract with them right now might limit what I can do as an indie, or may mean this series doesn’t end up as I envisaged it, or might end up never seeing the light of day for years, or ever.

It’s a tough decision, and one I’ll be thinking about while I work on the book. It may turn out that I decide to write the first three books of this series and the Guardians of Hades series, and release them in 2014, all 2 months apart or something crazy. Would you like that?

I haven’t worked on this next book this week really… but wanted to update everyone on it…

This week, I’ve been mainly focused on marketing work because I’ve been meaning to tackle it for some time now but never found the time, and I don’t want to go through this whole year without getting a better plan in place for my books and my career.

On Monday, I printed out Unleash (Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series book 6) and I’ll be beginning the second draft of the book next week, after reading this book at the weekend. I can’t wait to delve back into it and I’m really excited to see how it turned out. Hopefully, it won’t require too much work to get it into shape, but I know there are things I need to address in the book. Small things, but they’ll take time to fix up. Mainly description and detail stuff.

The reason I’m mentioning Unleash at all today is because I made a solemn vow on my Facebook fan page to consider posting a sneak peek of the book and since everyone has been so good, and so many of you are desperate for a tease of this book, I decided to post a snippet from the opening chapter…

As with all my sneak peeks, this is first draft, and yes… this is the opening of the whole book. Prepare for a cuteness overload though, as you’ll be seeing Snow in a whole new light.

WIP Wednesday – Guardians of Hades Book One (paranormal romance) sneak peek excerpt

I’ve had a few people ask about what’s happening with my Guardians of Hades series that I was chatting about so much on my blog recently. Well, now that I’ve spent the better part of my day printing driving routes and maps for my impending trip around New Zealand, I can get back to work and update you all on this paranormal romance series all about seven very sexy Greek gods, who just happen to be the sons of Hades and Persephone, and are our only hope of surviving some cataclysmic event that is about to happen…

I’ve completed the first draft of the first book, which features the second eldest brother as the hero. Originally, I was writing this series with a view to pitching it to my agent and then having her tout it around NYC trying to find a home for it. That changed when I realised that I am extremely attached to this series. I’ve been working on it for 4 years already and I don’t want to see it altered in any way from how I envisage it. The trouble is, if a publisher decides after three books that the series is no longer for them, they will probably make me change things about it to have it end at book three, or four, or whatever. This is a seven book series and I would be gutted if it was cut short or altered from my vision in any way. So, I’ll be keeping it firmly in my hands and most likely self-publishing it instead, as I know I can get it to run to all seven books that way. I am now writing the Bonded by Blood series for my agent instead.

If you’re wondering when the first Guardians of Hades series book will come out, I’m currently aiming for a release date of late 2013 as I want to write the second and third book before I release the first book, and have them released one after the other. If you have any questions about the series, please don’t be shy! Feel free to ask them in the comments section or drop me an email.

Here’s a snippet from the first draft to keep you all excited about this series…

Guardians of Hades Book One Complete in First Draft

I’m very excited to announce that I finished the first draft of the very first book in the Guardians of Hades series today. I had two chapters to write, one of which was a nice big fight scene. You know I love to write fight scenes! I completed that this morning and then took a break before writing the final chapter which wrapped up everything in the book. The book ended up being 107,000 words in total, and I expect it to expand and shrink throughout the editing process. I am exhausted now, both physically and mentally. It’s always amazing how mentally taxing writing a book can be, and how quickly you can get exhausted when writing. I think I need a break now, so it’s good that my next project is proofreading Her Demonic Angel so it’s ready for release next weekend.

My word count for the year has risen nicely thanks to this first Guardians of Hades book. It now stands at 339,500 words written since January 2012, and means that I’m 60,500 words shy of my target of 400,000 words and it’s only just September. I’ll easily cover those and more when writing Bewitch and Unleash in the VET series. It’s exciting to see so many words have flowed from my fingers this year. I seem to go in cycles of writing years and editing years. Last year was definitely an editing year. This year is very much a writing year as I’ll be getting books done in first draft that will come out next year.

I’m really pleased with this first book in the Guardians of Hades series though, and I’ll be sharing a few more snippets with you over the coming months to give you all a better taste of the book and give you an idea what to expect from the series as a whole. I hope you’ll all like it. It’s my usual brand of passionate paranormal romance packed with emotional intensity, action and intrigue, and some big shiny twists!

Now, I had better get working on Her Demonic Angel or it won’t be ready in time for next Saturday! I don’t think you’d like it to end up delayed, would you?

Once I’m done with proofreading Her Demonic Angel, I’ll be planning Bewitch and Unleash, and then writing Bewitch. I’m looking forward to delving back into the Vampire Erotic Theatre series and learning more about Payne.

Guardians of Hades book one – Sneak peek excerpt!

In yesterday’s post about Guardians of Hades, I asked if you would like to read a super sneak peek excerpt of the book, and it got a few comments, so I grabbed the first 1000 words of the book to share with you. Here’s an update on my progress with the book first. I wrote 10,000 words today and we passed the 100,000 word mark. How awesome is that? I was really excited when I saw that figure at the bottom of my screen when writing. It felt like a real achievement. I have another couple of chapters to write and then the book is finished in first draft. Strange how it’s gone from seeming as though I would never get it finished to suddenly almost done!

I had a great time writing today. It started out with a rather unconventional love scene and then the hero’s parents made an appearance due to something he said to his heroine. Since I’ll be sharing an excerpt, I’ll tell you now that the hero is called Ares. No, he’s not the god of war, but he’s named for him and that particular god has an interest in his life. He is a god in his own right though, the second eldest son of Hades and Persephone. It was fun writing Hades for the first time today and introducing him. He can’t leave the Underworld, so he only appeared at a distance and basically set the heroine, Megan, on edge. She met his mum though. I really enjoy writing Persephone. She’s all light to Hades’ darkness, but at the same time she’s got a dark side of her own. She’s not the sort of woman you mess with, and you certainly commit to her sons when you steal their hearts or face the dire consequences.

You’ll probably pick up on another of the heroes in this series’ names in the following sneak peek at the book. I’ll have the book wrapped up by the end of the week, which is great as I need to do the final proofread for Her Demonic Angel.

Anyway, I’m sure you’ve all skipped this to hit the goodies, and I hope you’ll leave a comment with any questions or feedback about the excerpt! Don’t be shy now. Oh, and forgive any mishaps and terrible writing. This is straight from the first draft so it’ll improve exponentially during edits!
