Working on Her Demonic Angel (Her Angel romance series book 5) and Enslave (Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series book 4) among others

It has been a while since I did an update post on what I’ve been doing.

The past couple of week’s have been rather busy, as always. I was working on the second draft of Her Demonic Angel, the fifth book in the Her Angel romance series. I fixed everything that really leapt out at me during the initial read through of the long novel. Some of it was hard work and required serious thinking and slaving over to get it right. As usual for me, it was the ending that had the most problems and needed the most work. It’s always difficult when it’s the ending, because it’s there hanging over my head during the edit and I want to race forwards to fix it right then and there, and that never works out for me. It’s better to flow through the story and then fix things as I come across them, because then I’m clear about what has happened and things that have already been said and done. The last thing you want to do is fix the major problems and then go through the book and realise you’ve contradicted something you already said or did in the story and you have to fix things all over again.

After completing the second draft of Her Demonic Angel, I began work on the final edit of Enslave. Enslave is the fourth book in the Vampire Erotic Theatre series. I’ve just completed the initial read through and now I’m going to find any notes I had scribbled down and check that I addressed everything in the second draft and that none of it needs addressing in this edit. I don’t think it does, but it’s always best to check. Since Enslave is only 35000 words, back to the length of the other novellas in the series, and since it’s in good shape, it shouldn’t take me too long to get this edit done.

In non-writing work, I’m putting together a huge Vampirerotique Summer Book Tour that will run from June 28th until August 31st. Yes, that’s a very big tour. There’s a reason for that though. I toured with Covet back in February, but didn’t tour with Crave, which I released in March. Seduce comes out this weekend (excited?) and then Enslave comes out on August 4th. So, I’ll be touring with all four books, and all six heroes… yes, Snow included. It’s going to be a fabulous tour as I’ve ordered in some fantastic swag for the giveaways. I haven’t decided what the main Grand Giveaway at my blog will be. I’m not sure whether it will be a Kindle again, or perhaps something different.

I’ve also been busy getting release stuff ready for Seduce, and planning other stories. My muse has been quiet recently. I’m not sure why. I think he’s feeling the pressure to perform a little, so I’ve been letting him rest. He’s started to bounce around again now though. Just yesterday, he decided to talk to me about a new series I have in the works which will be werewolf romance spanning six novels, Hunger (the next Vampires Realm book), Bewitch (the fifth Vampire Erotic Theatre series book) and other new stories that I can’t really talk about right now.

It’s all very hush hush…

Planning a massive Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series summer book tour and Her Demonic Angel book tour

I was hard at work yesterday getting on with the second draft edit of Her Demonic Angel, the fifth book in my Her Angel romance series. Between bouts of editing, because my brain often needs a few minutes break now and then otherwise it just disengages completely, I decided to plan out a book tour for Seduce, the next book in my Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series, which is due out this month.

So, I was planning it and then pondered whether I actually gone on tour with Crave, the second book in the series. Turns out that I didn’t tour with that book due to time constraints. I calculated the time between the release of Seduce in June and the release of Enslave in August, and then figured I could do one massive summer book tour for the entire series. I did tour with Covet back in January/February but I feel that book and the characters should be included in the tour. It is going to be a grand affair too. I’ve written down a list of potential posts I could write for the tour and it comes out at 31 posts. I think that works quite well for a tour that will run from July 1st to August 31st.

Because I fell into some sort of book tour planning fever, I decided to plan out the tour for Her Demonic Angel too. That one will be much smaller, more like my usual book tours, with only 10-15 stops. I will probably tour throughout October with Her Demonic Angel.

Earlier in the year I debated whether book tours were worth it in terms of the time it takes me to arrange dates with blogs, write the posts, and then promote the posts and the tour versus using that same amount of time to work on my books instead. I know that marketing is a key part of selling books, but it’s very tempting to just leave the promotion side of things to adverts and reviews and use those book tour hours for writing or editing.

A small book tour of 10 or 15 stops can often take me around 20 hours in total. It doesn’t sound like much, but I can write 40,000 words in that time. That’s another novella, or half / a third of a novel (depending on length). Plus, if I tour with each book I release in a year, it can soon add up to 100 hours. That’s 200,000 words written. Two decent length novels. Five novellas. You get the picture.

I’m going to try tours again this year though and see if they benefit me. If I don’t see much benefit in terms of sales from the remaining tours this year, I might avoid them altogether next year and just use the time to write more books.

Hopefully the Vampire Erotic Theatre and Her Demonic Angel tours will provide some positive results and I’ll find touring worthwhile and will do it all over again next year.

Paranormal Romance Books Releases in 2012 – updated!

I’ve been debating the schedule for my remaining paranormal romance book releases in 2012. Originally I was going to follow this schedule:

June 23rd – Seduce (Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series #3)
August 4th – Enslave (Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series #4)
September 15th – Her Demonic Angel (Her Angel romance series #5)

I can’t decide whether to swap Enslave and Her Demonic Angel. If I do, then the release dates won’t stay exactly the same. I would have to release Her Demonic Angel closer to the end of August, and Enslave would then be released around the beginning of October. My reason for changing them around is that I know people are waiting for the next book in the Her Angel series and I do hate to keep my readers waiting. I know I can probably get the book edited in time for a late August release date, around 3 weeks before the current scheduled release.

Of course, as I said, that then pushes the release of Enslave into October or possibly right at the end of September. At the moment, it’s all theoretical and all comes down to how long it takes me to do the second draft of Her Demonic Angel, which I’ve just started. After the second draft, it needs to sit for a while and then I need to polish it, and then finally proof it. I’ve read through Her Demonic Angel and it seems to be in good order, with only minor changes throughout and some work needed on the end and a couple of other scenes in the book. Even so, it is a 130,000 word book, so it will take time to edit regardless of how much or how little work has to be done on it.

If I do manage to get the second draft done in reasonable time, then there is every chance that the new release schedule for the rest of my paranormal romance books this year will look more like this:

June 23rd – Seduce (Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series #3)
August 25th – Her Demonic Angel (Her Angel romance series #5)
September 29th – Enslave (Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series #4)

It’s all very much up in the air right now though but I would like to see this switch around happen. It might not be possible just because Her Demonic Angel is such a huge book to edit and I don’t like to rush these things. Plus, it destroys any wiggle room that I had built into my schedule to allow for things like feeling under the weather, last minute trips, general slacking or lack of inspiration.

I am looking forward to writing again though. I think I’m stuck in editing Hell for the next few months so I’ll be crazy from desire to write by the end of it.

What do you all think? Would you prefer to get Her Demonic Angel three weeks earlier than scheduled or are you happy to wait for the original September release date?

Schedule changes, operations and Amsterdam on Valentine’s Day

With my ear operation drawing closer, I began to get a little too stressed out about finishing Her Demonic Angel by my self-imposed deadline of the operation date. On Monday, I did manage to get the book to around 67000 words, but I also planned out the rest of the chapters in clearer detail and realised that I still have around 15 chapters to write. That’s around 60,000 words for me if they’re around average length. Some would be shorter, so maybe it would be fewer words to write but it’s still a lot considering I only had 6 work days until my operation.

So I had to make a choice yesterday. The deadline of my operation was making me feel icky about writing the book, leaving me feeling as though I was rushing it in parts or that it wasn’t going to come out good, or I wasn’t going to finish it. I have come to terms with the fact I won’t finish it in time, so I made the decision to hold off on writing the rest of it until post-recovery period. Plus, it’s probably better to relax in the week before the operation rather than elevating my blood pressure and stress levels!

After talking to my husband about it during the journey to Amsterdam for our Valentine’s Day trip, I realised it was probably easier to switch my schedule around and tackle editing two of the novellas in my Vampire Erotic Theatre series, Seduce and Enslave, and proofing Crave, and then write the rest of Her Demonic Angel when I’m back. It’s far easier to read just 70000 words to get back into the book than it is to read around 120000 words just to write the final chapter or whatever would have remained had I decided to stick with writing as much of the book as I could before my op.

The upside is that I find editing a lot less stressful so I should be able to get it all done, plus my other stuff like creating the formats for Crave which is out on March 10th, before my operation and should be feeling nice and relaxed in the run up to the day… which I am completely dreading.

Amsterdam was a much needed break for me and I had a really good time with my husband despite the rather cold weather. It was bitterly cold. The canals were frozen! Amsterdam was beautiful and so quiet, and it was great wandering the city. I am very tired today though, and can’t concentrate. It was a very long day with a very early start and late return, and a heck of a lot of walking in chilly weather. Another reason for changing my schedule around! I am a mindless zombie today.

Hopefully I will be feeling far more normal tomorrow. For now, I’m off to read over the paper copy of Seduce!

Jealous?

Covet Book Tour delves into the world of Vampirerotique and other Vampire Erotic Theatre news

Hot on the heels of my first date in my Covet Book Tour where I stopped by Riverina Romantics for an interview and shared an excerpt, plus giveaway, I’m visiting the fabulous Bona Fide Reflections and talking about the book, Covet, and the theatre, Vampirerotique!

Don’t forget, if you comment on the tour posts, you’re also entered into my grand giveaway for six signed paperback copies of my paranormal romance releases of 2011. Sounds good, right? You can read all about it by clicking the book tour button.

On Friday, I’ll be at the wonderful Book Monster Reviews and Literal Addiction interviewing Javier and Lilah about the theatre. Full details of the tour is available on my Covet Book Tour page. The tour schedule gets busy after this week, with another four stops next week, three the week after, and four the week after that!

In other Vampire Erotic Theatre series news, I’ve just completed the first draft of Enslave. It finished at 33500 words but I think this one will grow a little in edits as I want to up the UST in the first half of the book. I really want to write the next book in the series, Bewitch, now so I can finally write Snow’s book, Unleash, but I can’t.

Since Enslave is the final planned release in the series for the year, it means I have to switch my focus to another of my series that actually has a release schedule for 2012. I have to read Her Guardian Angel so I can plan and write Her Demonic Angel. Since I plan to release that book this September, I really need to get cracking on it. It’s a hard life but someone has to live it. I was going to read Her Guardian Angel when I’m in Barcelona over the next couple of days but I think I’ll read something by Lara Adrian or Gena Showalter instead. I need a break from work.

Vampire Erotic Theatre Series: More fantastic reviews for Covet and now writing Enslave!

I didn’t blog yesterday as I had a day off with my DH. I’m back today, have you missed me?

Things are going really well for my Vampire Erotic Theatre romance series. Covet has been the book on everyone’s lips and it has been receiving some fairly amazing reviews. The Snow fan club is growing each day and Snow is preening himself like a male peacock. He has to look good for the ladies. I swear this guy is shooting you all down with nothing but a sexy growl and a wink.

Of course, with all the love for Covet comes all the high expectations. And with those high expectations comes a heck of a boat load of pressure. I find myself panicking about Crave and whether it’s going to be good enough for everyone after the hotness that was Covet. The book is hot, make no mistake, and chocked full of forbidden love between the elite vampire Callum and the sassy werewolf Kristina, but I’m still worrying about it. I’m sure when I read it over for its final proof, I will be fine with it and will relax a little.

With Seduce, the third book, wrapped up in first draft, I decided to plunge straight into writing Enslave today. Enslave is now standing at 7700 words and I had to force myself to stop writing so I could do my other work for the day. That’s surely a good sign. There’s already a fantastic dynamic between Andreu (Javier’s younger brother) and the fae heroine Varya. Yes, you read that right. She’s a fae. She’s a succubus in fact.

Varya is the first fae I have written and I’m having fun with her so far, meddling with the whole myth behind her species and making it my own. There are other fae in the series, and in particular the next book I have planned. I’ve found I really like mixing in fae with werewolves, vampires and other supernatural creatures.

I had always been reluctant to toy with fae before because I felt that everyone was doing fae so well that I wouldn’t stand a chance, but I couldn’t resist bringing the fae into this series. I really hope you like my take on them!

My 7700 word start on Enslave has boosted my year’s word count to 52700 though, so I’m already 13.2% of the way towards my target!

Here are some snippets of the amazing reviews that Covet received recently.

“I loved this novella and was able to finish it over the course of two nights. Believe me when I say it was hard to put down that first night! Felicity Heaton’s first erotic story is one that shouldn’t be missed and I am already counting the days until Crave, the second book in her Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance series hits digital shelves in March!”

— Night Owl Reviews, 4.5 Star Top Pick! (Read the full review)

“Can Felicity Heaton write the steamy or can Felicity Heaton write the steamy? … Fast paced and entirely too fun, Felicity Heaton’s vampires are well-fleshed out and will leave you waiting impatiently for the next book in the series.”

— Reading the Paranormal, 5 Stars! (Read the full review)

“This was a very interesting new brand of vampire for me. Set in present day, yet it had an almost historical feel with the various levels within the vampire social hierarchy. There are also many rules that must be followed in their world. I truly feel that rules are supposed to be broken. Javier and Lilah feel the same way I do about rules… Their sex scenes are highly erotic. There is a spicy blend of voyeurism, mild bondage, mild dominance and some very intense sex scenes. The performances of the theatre are an added bonus to the flames that Javier and Lilah are throwing.”

— The Jeep Diva, 5 Stars! (Read the full review)

“With a unique plot and some of the most erotic scenes I’ve read (and I’ve read my fair share of them!), Covet is not for the shy but definitely for the smut lover. If you’re new to Ms. Heaton’s work, this book will make her an instant favorite, and if you’re just looking for a spicy novella to get you out of a reading funk, this book will no doubt do the trick!”

— Romancing the Dark Side, 4 Stars! (Read the full review)

Javier knows better than to succumb to his hunger for Lilah. The mortal female belongs to a powerful aristocrat patron of Vampirerotique, the theatre he runs with three other vampires. Lilah has fought her desire for Javier since arriving at his theatre as a servant but each glance he has stolen, his eyes promising pleasure that will satisfy her longing for him, has chipped away at her defences and she can no longer deny her need and her forbidden feelings for the powerful vampire male.

When they find themselves alone in a private box during one of the erotic performances, will they surrender to their passion and live out their wildest fantasies in a night of wicked pleasure or will the threat of Lilah’s master keep them apart forever?

SEDUCE (Vampire Erotic Theatre Romance Series #3) completed in first draft and series news

Although I probably should have rested my shoulder yesterday, as it has been very bad for the past week or so and was hurting when I was writing, I ignored it and battled through the pain with the help of some meds. I know that probably isn’t a wise thing, but I really needed to write and nothing can stop me when the mood strikes, especially when it strikes as hard as it did yesterday.

My word count and progress on Seduce rose nicely yesterday, bringing me 9000 words closer to the end and up to around 40,000 words. Seduce is turning out a little longer than the first two books in the Vampire Erotic Theatre series, but I think that’s because Antoine has a lot in his past that he needs to get off his chest and then there’s the whole thing with Snow, his older brother. Now that’s a relationship you don’t want to come between, although I’m beginning to suspect there are a large number of readers willing to play host to Snow’s darkest desires. He’s gaining himself quite a fan club. Or should that be fang club?

This morning I woke up and my shoulder was mercifully feeling much better. It’s still dodgy, but it no longer hurts when I’m writing. My back is also acting up less. I bought a new office chair when I became a full time writer but I think I need something better for my posture. I have sucky posture. My own fault for living in front of a computer screen.

Back to Seduce.

I brought the book to a satisfying conclusion this afternoon, finishing with it standing at 45,000 words. It will probably grow a little when I edit it, or maybe it will shrink. There are a few things to iron out as the story shifted directions a few times when I was writing it but I’m sure a read through pre-edit will highlight anything that needs tweaking.

Now that Seduce is done, I will be moving on to planning the next three stories in the series, and also the next novel in the Her Angel series. Yes, my astute lovelies, you did read that right. I won’t be ending the Vampire Erotic Theatre series on book 4. I am having far too much fun in this world and two candidates have stepped forwards, making their first appearance in Seduce, as the heroes of the extra books.

What does this mean and when the heck do I get my Snow fix? I hear you crying it.

It makes sense for the books to be added in at position 4 and 5, so Snow’s book will be moved to book 6. He deserves the finale and I have more I want to do with him before we get to see his story unfold. I think it works better for the series if his book doesn’t follow hot on the heels of Antoine’s. It makes life far too easy for the brother’s, and we all know I’m all about giving my heroes a hard time.

The first hero has already been mentioned in Covet, but not by name. He’s Javier’s brother, Andreu. The second is another elite vampire with a bit of a secret, and his name is Payne.

Andreu will now be the hero in Enslave, as that book title suits his story far more than it suits Snow’s.
Payne’s book will be entitled Bewitch.
Snow’s book is tentatively entitled Unleash.

So, the running order of the series is now as follows:
#1 – Covet (Javier and Lilah) – out now.
#2 – Crave (Callum and Kristina) – 10th March
#3 – Seduce (Antoine and Sera) – 23rd June
#4 – Enslave (Andreu and ?) – 4th August
#5 – Bewitch (Payne and ?) – 2013
#6 – Unleash (Snow and ?) – 2013

I’d love to get them out quicker but I need to tour with them and give myself time to promote them, and I also need to release Masquerade in my Vampires Realm series and Her Demonic Angel in my Her Angel series.

In other news, I’m considering writing a werewolf equivalent to Vampire Erotic Theatre next year. Interested?

I feel I should duck and cover to avoid the angry swings of the women of the Snow fan club. I promise, you’ll get a dose of him in each book!

Cover reveal – Vampire Erotic Theatre Series

So I’ve mentioned a few times on my Facebook that I’m writing a new series of erotic vampire romance novellas for release next year. I have most of the stories planned and I know that there will be four of them, and that I am writing the first draft of the first book in the series this week. This series is now known as the Vampire Erotic Theatre series.

I have already made the cover for the first book in the series, and the design will be used for each book in the series, but with different title text. That way, there’s a theme for the series and it keeps them tied together so when readers see the image, they know it’s one of the series books. I like that idea. I also like how the cover turned out. I wanted it to be as decadent as the stories, sumptuous and rich, and very sensual looking. So, this is the first time that eyes other than my own have seen the cover and I hope you’ll all find it majorly sexy and erotic, and that it will whet your appetite for this upcoming series of mine.

Drum roll please…

Does that entice you into wanting to know exactly what is going on at that theatre?

Here’s a little more about the stories. They feature the four vampires who run a theatre called Vampirerotique which caters to vampire clientele with a penchant for watching erotic stage shows that often feature a finale involving a human and several vampires. Each of the four men get their story told, and each of those stories are highly charged and highly sensual tales of forbidden love, burning desire, and danger. If you’ve read my Spellbound story in my Vampires Realm series, then it will be like that, or my In Heat stories but condensed into a very hot novella instead. These are stories about four very powerful men and the women who bring them to heel through various means. Without giving too much away, the heroines are a mixture of human, shapeshifter, vampire and angel.

Here’s a list of the books in the series plus their provisional release dates:
Covet [Vampire Erotic Theatre Series #1] – March 2012
Crave [Vampire Erotic Theatre Series #2] – April 2012
Seduce [Vampire Erotic Theatre Series #3] – May 2012
Enslave [Vampire Erotic Theatre Series #4] – June 2012

Are you excited about this series? I don’t often write erotic romance, but you know that when I do, I write it blisteringly hot!
