Character Biography - Sable

Sable

One of the world's best demon hunters, Sable joined Archangel at a young age when she ran into trouble with the police. It turned out she had been fighting a demon without knowing it. Archangel saw her abilities and recruited her, and became her only family. Raised an orphan, Sable never knew her parents and has dedicated her life to protecting mortals from the things that go bump in the night.

Because of her hard start in life, Sable has difficulty forming relationships. Her closest friend is fellow Archangel employee, Olivia, who works in the science department. Sable prefers not to let men grow close to her and has never been in a steady relationship. She guards her heart vigilantly, but when a brash demon king comes crashing into the Archangel cafeteria, her carefully constructed barriers begin to come crashing down with him.

Character Interview

This interview took place on March 9th 2014, at the castle of the Third Realm in Hell.

Felicity:
I have Sable here with me today to talk about her book, Claimed by a Demon King. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?
Sable:
I’m a demon hunter for Archangel. That’s the world’s biggest demon hunting organisation. We police the demons and fae, making sure any who step out of line and prove too dangerous to humans is hunted and put down. I’ve been with them since I was just a kid and I’ve dedicated my life to working with them to make sure that the balance between humans and non-humans is maintained.
Felicity:
In Kissed by a Dark Prince, the first book in the series, you met Thorne. How did you meet and how did you feel about them initially?
Sable:
Thorne. *blows out a breath* Well. I met him when he teleported into the cafeteria at Archangel and threw the whole damned place into pandemonium. I swear, I had never seen anything like what I came upon when entering the cafeteria to respond to the alarm. It’s hard, but try to picture lots of not-so-scrawny human men hanging off a huge bloke who is almost twice their breadth and has a good few inches on them, and you’ll get a visual of what I found. The hunters at Archangel aren’t little boys. They’re big guys, but Thorne had a way of making them look tiny.
Felicity:
Knowing Thorne personally, I can see how that would be the case. He is six-feet-seven and seriously built. The man is literally a demon. *smiles* But you didn’t say how you felt when you first met him.
Sable:
*sighs again* I don’t think I was sure what I was feeling. First instinct I had was to leap into the fight and help my people... but when Thorne looked at me. Hell... I felt as if he was looking right down into my soul and stripping me bare. It was unsettling. I wasn’t sure how to react to that sort of intense attention that he gave me. I think I mostly brushed it off.
Felicity:
*laughs* I think you pretty much did that. It was difficult for you though, even though you weren’t really aware of it at the time. I mean, you suddenly had two immortal warriors showing you attention. That must have been difficult considering you’re a hunter.
Sable:
Oh, it was. You cannot begin to understand just how difficult too. I didn’t realise that Bleu was attracted to me in that way. He was always cool to hang around with and spar with too, and never really showed me that sort of attention. I just thought he was a good friend, one I wanted to keep forever. It was only when I went to the Third Realm to assist Thorne with his war against the Fifth Realm of demons that it slowly sank in that Thorne wasn’t the only man interested in me physically.
Felicity:
You say physically and not romantically. Why?
Sable:
*toys with the silver cuff around her wrist* When it comes to Bleu... I never really had the impression that feelings were at stake. He is attracted to me, and, Hell, he’s a hot guy and maybe I would have taken a tumble in the sack with him eventually... but he’s like I was before meeting Thorne. He just wanted something with no strings attached.
Felicity:
And Thorne?
Sable:
Thorne... well, he’s the complete opposite, isn’t he? What he wanted was forever, a committed relationship with everything that entails—love, monogamy, devotion, sharing life. It wasn’t something I was looking for, but it turns out that it was what I secretly needed. He had no qualms about making me see that. I was his mate. His fated female. He had been waiting for me for longer than I can comprehend as a human. He wanted his mate... me. He wouldn’t have settled for a quick tumble. He wouldn’t have settled for anything less than forever.
Felicity:
So very true. How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?
Sable:
Still complicated, I’m afraid. Suddenly I’m the queen of a demon kingdom in Hell, and I’m trying to work with Archangel at the same time because I’m damned if I’m leaving part of my team to fend for themselves against the bastard dragons. I have all this stuff to learn, and new training to start, and the only thing keeping me sane is Thorne, and of course Olivia. She’s been incredible. We’ve taken this leap into the unknown together, becoming immortal to be with the men we love, and I’m going to admit that it’s unsettling.
Felicity:
So you see Loren and Olivia often?
Sable:
*nods* Yes. Loren often invites us over to his castle in the elf kingdom and he’s always over to discuss things with Thorne. I’m also training Olivia so when she gets wild and stupid ideas about jumping into fights, she can actually protect herself and maybe kick some ass too.
Felicity:
I don’t want to poke sore spots, because I seem to rile this guy enough on the best of days, but do you see Bleu when you’re in the elf kingdom? Did you get to speak with him after the war ended in the Third Realm?
Sable:
*sighs* Yes, I did get to speak with him. He’s a little distant right now, but Olivia tells me he has a lot on his plate at the moment and he needs more time. I’ve seen him around, but normally he’s busy with his work as commander of the elf legions, or he makes a hasty exit.
Felicity:
I’m sure in time that he’ll get past this awkward stage and will be happy for you. I know he’s had his hands full. I’ve met with him a few times and he’s very busy with all kinds of things, not just entertaining me. Believe me, when he sees me now, he makes a hasty exit too! Your story, Claimed by a Demon King, is a book in the Eternal Mates series. Can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?
Sable:
I think so. I have some hunters to rescue, so I will be hanging around Hell for a while. I’ve heard you’re catching up with Vail next. I really don’t envy you that! He is one twisted bastard.
Felicity:
I’m hoping that meeting his fated female might help him go some way towards becoming a little less twisted. I won’t tell him you said that though. I don’t want him coming after you and Thorne.
Sable:
*shakes her head* I don’t want a replay of that fight between Thorne and Vail. I don’t think I could handle it. Vail has the distinct advantage of being a tad crazy and not giving a damn about his life. I feel for whoever is going to end up as his mate.
Felicity:
Well, you’ve met her and worked with her, and it’s one less person for you to look for in Hell, unless you want to cross paths with Vail.
Sable:
Crap. You’re telling me that it’s Rosalind? I knew she had that whole predicted fate hanging over her head but I didn’t probe into the details. Surely Rosalind being around the Mad Elf Prince is going to be a very bad thing?
Felicity:
In some ways, yes, and in others it will be a good thing. It’ll work out in the end. Okay, I’m going to finish up with something easy. Describe yourself in one word.
Sable:
Kick-ass. I know it’s two words but I hyphenated it. Awesome would do too.
Felicity:
How about modest? *laughs* Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?
Sable:
Thanks for having me here and I’m waiting for you to interview Thorne. He’s a little impatient. If he waffles on about romance stuff and fated mates, tell him to zip it. Once he gets onto those sorts of subjects, he turns into a poet and it’s hard to get him to be quiet. For our ceremony, I had to stand in the middle of a whole horde of demon warriors in the courtyard of the castle for almost an hour while Thorne waxed lyrical about his love for me and our forever as king and queen. Imagine standing with a bunch of testosterone-fuelled men staring at you while radiating impatience, listening to their king harping on about his love for you and how deep it runs.
Felicity:
I bet that made you blush every shade of red available. Did you give him hell afterwards?
Sable:
*grins* In the best way.
Felicity:
I’m letting you go now. I don’t want to probe into that statement. *watches her leave* I hope you enjoyed this interview with Sable and the little insight into her and her story, Claimed by a Demon King!
