Character Biography - Loren

Loren

Raised an elven prince, Loren is very noble and dedicated to his people and his kingdom. He places the safety and wellbeing of others before his own life and cares deeply about those under his care. When the mortal world began to corrupt his fellow elves almost five thousand years ago, Loren withdrew them from our world and built a kingdom for them in Hell, turning it into a verdant oasis with his brother's, Vail's, help.

Since the events that drove him and Vail apart, turning his brother into an enemy of their kind, Loren has done all in his power to capture his brother and bring an end to their war. He loves his only sibling deeply and cannot bring himself to kill him, which is a constant source of conflict between Loren and the elf council, who wish to see Vail dead.

Loren is a man of compassion, born to lead his people. He often takes responsibility for anyone he cares about and will do whatever it takes to protect them, placing the needs of others before his own.

In his own realm, he always dresses in his robes. These are black trousers and over the top he wears a jacket that is fitted to his torso but then has four long rectangular tails that reach past his knees. Two tails at the front and two at the back, split along the side of his legs and down the front and back. They are often decorated in purple embroidery that forms a line of symbols along the edges of the four tails, and up the line of buttons that secure it over his chest, and around the short stand-up collar. They also flow around the cuffs in thicker bands. There's elegant stitching at the bottom of each tail, covering them up to around 8 inches from the ends, depicting dragons and mountains, and other creatures.

He also has armour. It resides as two black and silver metal bands around his wrists most of the time but when he mentally commands it, it covers his body like black scales, reaching right up to his chin. It turns his fingers into long sharp claws too, and is extremely flexible. He has a helm too, black and jagged. It flares up from his head in serrated curved spikes, and covers his brow to his eyebrows, coming to a point above the bridge of his nose, and sweeps down to curve along his jaw.
Tattoos / Scars:
He has a track of markings that curl on his deltoids, and then flow over his shoulders to caress just below his collarbones and then swirl downwards over his pectorals. Character Interview

This interview took place on March 9th 2014, at the castle of the elf kingdom in Hell.

Felicity:
I have Prince Loren here with me today to talk about his book, Kissed by a Dark Prince, and also about the second book in the Eternal Mates series, Claimed by a Demon King. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?
Loren:
I most certainly can. I am prince of my people, the dark elves, and have led them for almost five thousand years. In that time, I have moved them from this realm to the one you think of as Hell, creating a kingdom for them there where they could live in peace and could prosper. My home in that realm is a castle in the centre of my lands. They are not grim as many expect Hell to be, but rather verdant and colourful.
Felicity:
You’re sort of just starting to talk about your kingdom now... I know it means a lot to you, all your people do, but I did ask about you.
Loren:
*frowns* I see. I am trying to think of something to say about myself but all of my thoughts seem to lead back to my kingdom and my people.
Felicity:
I guess it’s understandable. I mean, you are their prince. Their ruler. I suppose you’ve led the elves for so long now that it has become who you are. If I had to describe you, I would say you were beautiful, masculine, honourable, charming, noble and graceful. You are every bit the prince, with a little dash of darkness in there too.
Loren:
Darkness? *scowls* I do not think that I am dark.
Felicity:
Dark, dangerous and deadly. You make the image most people have of elves look like a fairy. I’ve seen you fight. You’re a one-man army with that black blade, telekinesis and teleporting. Plus, that armour. Come on. Black scales that hug you like a second-skin and serrated claws in place of your fingers? It is a little dark... and sexy.
Loren:
*mentally calls his armour so it covers his hands, transforming his fingers into claws* I suppose a dash of darkness is acceptable.
Felicity:
Olivia certainly seems to like it. You met her in, ah, rather poor circumstances. How did you meet and how did you feel about her initially?
Loren:
I woke in a strange white room surrounded by mortal machinery with a beautiful angel hovering above me. The moment I set eyes on Olivia, I wanted her. I was in pain though. My injuries were extensive and I had lost a lot of blood, and when in such a condition I have a tendency to fall foul of my instincts. Those instincts drove me to heal and restore my strength. Unfortunately, I did so by attacking Olivia.
Felicity:
You bit her.
Loren:
Yes. You must understand, all elves have strong survival instincts. When we are injured and weakened by blood loss, we tend to end up controlled by those instincts. I needed blood to restore my strength and took it, without a single thought about the consequences of such an action.
Felicity:
But your consequences were far more than you could have ever anticipated.
Loren:
*nods* I ended up triggering a bond between us. I did not know it at the time, but Olivia is my ki’ara... my fated female. She is my one true mate.
Felicity:
You weren’t exactly looking for a mate... and neither was Olivia. I mean, a human scientist working for one of the biggest demon-hunting organisations in the world isn’t going to leap at the chance to have a non-human as their lover...
Loren:
No, she did not desire a mate, and I told myself I did not either. I could not risk her in my fight against my enemy. He intentionally left me in her care, bringing us together under the worst of circumstances. When I accidentally triggered the bonding process between us, I sought her out and we decided we would find a way to break the growing bond, freeing Olivia and ensuring she was no longer a target for my enemy.
Felicity:
The pained look in your eyes tells me you still hate the thought of losing your bond to Olivia. Things didn’t quite work out how either of you had planned at the start of your story... but have they been working out since we left you at the end of your book?
Loren:
Yes, in a manner of speaking. The threat to my kingdom has ended and the people are at ease. Olivia continues to work for Archangel, but she splits her time between her laboratory there and studying my realm, and she has moved into my rooms in the castle. She has also been training with Sable, her friend and huntress at Archangel. I am glad that her friend is taking the time to help my mate learn how to protect herself. In days past, when I would visit Olivia at Archangel, Sable would keep Bleu occupied by sparring with him. My second in command has a tendency to get twitchy when we visit Archangel headquarters to see Olivia and I fear one day he will end up in a fight with one of the hunters there over something trivial.
Felicity:
I’ve seen Bleu in action. He can be a little overprotective of you. You say ‘in days past’ because this isn’t the case anymore?
Loren:
Sable is now busy with battle preparations in the Third Realm, and with King Thorne of the demons there. Bleu desired Sable for himself but since those desires went unrequited, he has kept his distance from her. He does still accompany me to Archangel whenever I happen to visit, but for his sake I have been keeping my visits to a minimum. I do not desire to hurt my friend.
Felicity:
That’s very noble of you. You had a difficult time in the Third Realm when you went there to help King Thorne with his war against the demons of the Fifth Realm. It can’t have been easy for you to be there with Bleu, seeing him want something he could never have.
Loren:
Bleu was a handful, but I showed him leniency because I couldn’t imagine what he was going through. It must have been hard for him to see Sable falling in love with Thorne. He tried me at times, stoking my temper, but looking back, I feel perhaps I was sometimes harsh on him. He is a different man these days.
Felicity:
I know. I’ve spoken with him a few times throughout the tour and he has certainly grown. He even talks about finding his fated female now.
Loren:
*smiles* I would like that. I would like to see him happily mated.
Felicity:
What about your brother?
Loren:
*sighs* I know he is in Hell but I do not know where. Thorne keeps his warriors on alert for him since the last place we saw him was in his realm, but I do not believe he is still there. I fear my time is running out and soon it will be too late to save Vail. The darkness is eating away at him. He is in danger of losing himself to it.
Felicity:
I’m sure that you’ll find a way to bring him back from the darkness. Olivia said she has been working on finding methods of alleviating the darkness in tainted elves. I know she wants to help you cure your brother and bring him home. Bleu doesn’t have such a positive view on things.
Loren:
*pinches the bridge of his nose* Bleu believes the kingdom should not welcome Vail back if I do save him from himself. Perhaps he is right. My brother has done many terrible things. Perhaps he does not deserve salvation.
Felicity:
I don’t think that’s the case. Vail deserves his shot at redemption, but you can’t expect your people to just welcome him back with open arms. It’s going to take time.
Loren:
*forces a smile* Something I am not short of. I have waited this long to bring my brother home. I can wait however many centuries more it takes to have his people accept him back into the kingdom.
Felicity:
I’m actually setting out to track down your brother, so that should give you a little hope. Can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?
Loren:
I would hope to be in his story, and of course, I will no doubt be in Bleu’s when you orchestrate his downfall.
Felicity:
That isn’t a very nice way of putting it, but it’s probably correct. I fully intend for his fated female to knock him on his backside. Let’s finish this with something easy and fun. Describe yourself in one word.
Loren:
Loyal... even when it can be a fault.
Felicity:
Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?
Loren:
Thank you for having me here, and thank you to everyone who is reading this, and it was most interesting reading your interviews with Olivia and the others. And please... no more visits to Bleu. He is always irritable for days after you have been to see him.
Felicity:
Noted. No more poking Bleu’s sore spots. Promise!
