Character Biography - Annelie

Annelie

Quite outgoing and able to handle herself, Annelie is down to earth and can deal with pretty much anything, even the fact that the man she has been falling in love with for three years is actually a fallen angel!

Annelie has worked at her parents' pub for many years and recently took over as the landlord when her parents retired. She knows many of her regulars by name and is always friendly with her patrons and staff, and works hard to keep her business running. Since Lukas first walked into her bar, she has harboured a crush on him but always thought he was out of her league. She did her best to support him and missed him whenever he disappeared.

She likes to take life by the horns and not let go, and has an adventurous soul, but a friendly open one too. She makes friends quickly and has a tendency to look out for girl friends in particular, siding with them against the men. Annelie isn't the sort of woman to parade herself and lacks confidence about her looks so she tends to cover up and dress plainly, but being with Lukas has slowly changed that part of her, giving her a much-needed boost in confidence because of how beautiful he makes her feel.

Character Interview

This interview took place on August 1st 2011, shortly after the release of Her Guardian Angel

Felicity:
I have Annelie here with me today to talk about her book, Her Fallen Angel. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?
Annelie:
Um, of course. Well, I’m a regular woman, pretty normal really. The only thing out of the ordinary in my life is Lukas and his friends, who I guess are my friends too now. I grew up in London and took over my parents’ pub, and pretty much dedicated my life to making sure the business stayed afloat and did well. I had never really considered doing anything else. My parents loved the bar and didn’t want it to go to someone else, and I felt the same way. It’s a great place to work and I have so many friends who are regulars, so I don’t mind working in the evenings when normal people are out partying or socialising. My place is the place to party. (smiles)
Felicity:
You mentioned Lukas. How did you meet and how did you feel about him initially?
Annelie:
I met a beautiful man in my bar around three years before my story with him started, and boy did I fall hard for him. Lukas is so kind and gentle, and so damn gorgeous. Resisting him was impossible. Whenever he was in my bar, I would end up chatting to him at some point, spilling all my worries over a lemonade. Yeah, he was never a big drinker. That’s why I was so surprised when he disappeared for three weeks and then came back and started hitting the booze. I wasn’t sure what to do at first and I didn’t know he had never touched alcohol before, so I thought he would be able to handle his drink. He ended up slumped on my bar telling me how beautiful I was. It was hard not to take him seriously even when he was drunk. He was telling me everything I had wanted to hear from him and when he kissed me, well… I couldn’t stop myself from kissing him back. I just thought he was another regular guy, a little more gorgeous than most, but I had never dreamed he would turn out to be an angel.
Felicity:
He didn’t exactly reveal that in the smoothest of ways, did he?
Annelie:
(laughs) No, he didn’t. It wasn’t his fault. I was stroking his back after waking up next to him in bed and wondering how he got his scars, and suddenly the wings were just there! He practically knocked me on my arse. (smiles again) He panicked, I panicked, his hangover kicked in and I tried to run away. It was a complete mess. It took a lot for him to talk me down and convince me that it was okay to be with him and that his feelings for me were real.
Felicity:
But he did manage to convince you, and you are together now. Can you tell us about what happened in your story?
Annelie:
Some bigwigs up in Heaven accused Lukas of killing humans in a warehouse explosion. Anyone who has ever met my man would know he couldn’t do such a thing. He has a heart as big as the moon and he cares so much about his duty and us mortals. Heaven wasn’t having any of it because there was no evidence to prove that he didn’t do it. Something about the records in Heaven don’t show angels in the images they capture or some weird thing like that. I knew that Lukas was innocent and that the sentence Heaven had given him, and the fact they had revoked permission for him to use his wings, was killing him. I couldn’t let them get away with destroying him so I agreed to help him, and together we set things right.
Felicity:
How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?
Annelie:
It seems so normal again now. Most days I’m working at the bar and Lukas comes by around closing time to give me a hand cleaning up, and then we head home. We live in his apartment now. Sometimes he flies me there and it’s still exciting to feel the rush of wind on my skin and see the world from above. He goes away for periods because of his work but he always stays in contact with me. He’s become very adept at using a telephone and can text like a demon. I suppose that’s probably not a good word to use for an angel. I always miss him when he’s away, but it makes seeing him again so much sweeter. We often go to see Serenity and Apollyon, and sometimes we see Einar and his girlfriend Taylor. I didn’t believe she was part demon at first but everyone assures me that she is. We have new friends now. I hadn’t met Marcus until he came to Apollyon with Amelia and everything went crazy. I haven’t seen them again since we parted on the island, but Apollyon receives regular reports from Marcus. I know he doesn’t want us involved in what’s happening with him and Amelia, and Heaven and Hell, but we’ll be there for them if they need our help. That’s what friends are for. Oh, and I’m getting ready to take these trial things. Lukas is petrified about them but he doesn’t say that of course. I know I’ll make it through them together with Serenity. I don’t want a few short years with my angel. I want forever.
Felicity:
That’s so sweet. I can understand why you would want to achieve immortality when you have such lovely men in your lives. Who wouldn’t want to live forever with them? Okay, one final question and it’s a simple and silly one. Describe yourself in one word?
Annelie:
That’s not simple. That’s difficult. Um, one word. Outgoing. You have to be if you want to run a pub.
Felicity:
I suppose you do! Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. I’ll let you get back to Lukas now. I’m sure he’s eager to take you home.
