Stepping away from my Vampires Realm series for today’s Daily Dozen. This time it’s 12 sentences from my rather hot urban fantasy romance novel, Ascension.
Taig, the half-demon hero, has just been reunited with his ex-lover Lealandra who has come to him for help. She’s a witch on the verge of her ascension and someone is out to stop her by any means. They’ve already killed her Counter-Balance and she knows that she’s next. She needs a powerful ally to protect her, and Taig fits that description perfectly. The scene is set in Lealandra’s apartment where her Counter-Balance was murdered before her eyes and Taig has just seen the huge mark daubed in blood on the wall above her bed and has asked what it means.
“It’s a mark that means ascension. The line breaks it and pierces symbols for death and Hell.†She ran her fingers beneath her eyes, erasing her tears and the black marks left by her mascara, and then pointed a shaky finger at the symbols in question. “It’s a warning that I’m going to Hell.â€
“It’s nice this time of year.†Taig flashed a soft smile but she didn’t return it. He kept one arm around her while he gently wiped away the remaining trace of her tears with the pad of his thumb. His fingers paused against the delicate curve of her jaw, his thumb resting close to her lips. He held her gaze, making sure her grey eyes stayed locked with his as he spoke. “I won’t let them hurt you, Lea. I won’t let Hell have you. I’d go down there and bring you back.â€
