It’s been an odd but busy week for my writing side of work. I’ve been ploughing on with the second draft edits of Her Warrior Angel<\/b>. The biggest bug for me was the ending chapter, which felt a bit thrown together when I was writing it during the first draft but I wanted to let it sit for a bit to get a better feel for it.<\/p>\n
The initial read through didn’t really throw up any other major problems. It has good conflict, probably the strongest out of the series, and I think the characters have a good dynamic… and I’m totally in love with the hero. I finished the read through on Monday and went straight back into the edit to add all my comments in and first fixes. After that it was a good thorough edit.<\/p>\n
Over the past year, I’ve really honed my writing when it comes to the first draft, making sure I don’t make the mistakes or general writing stuff I normally end up correcting in second draft, so I’ve really got it down to a fine art now. I rarely use “he said”, instead having an action after speech, and I avoid passives and other grammar issues as much as I can (sometimes it’s impossible to avoid a passive!). But I digress.<\/p>\n
I’ve just finished fiddling with the final chapter. It was difficult to wait until the end of the edit to address the issues, rearrange and rewrite it but it was best I did it with a clear picture of the story in my head. I’m much happier with it now, so I’m going to give it a read over on my way home from work tonight and then put this story to bed.<\/p>\n
Of course, the cycle of writing and editing is never really over, and tomorrow I’ll be proofing Her Fallen Angel<\/b> so I can get the formats made for it and get it submitted to Fictionwise.<\/p>\n
Ah, it really never ends.<\/p>\n
