Today’s Daily Dozen dose comes from Forbidden Blood, a vampire romance book.

A thick black velvet choker with a silver cross on it ringed her neck. The cross didn’t bother him, or any of his kind, but he couldn’t stop staring at it and the sublime curve of her throat. He resisted his desire to lick his lips and swallowed to wet his dry throat. It burned and he fought the terrible hunger that had been rising since he had awoken this afternoon. Her blood was weaker within him now, but his thirst wasn’t abating as he had expected. It gnawed at him, making his insides twist and spasm, and he placed his hand on his stomach. He couldn’t take it. His fangs extended behind his closed lips and his mouth watered. He kept his feet planted to the wooden floor, refusing to give in to the urge to cross the room, drag her soft body flush against his, and sink his fangs hard into her throat. The battle raged inside him and her blood spoke of her growing confusion over his silence and staring. It took every ounce of his will to force his fangs away but he managed it and clawed back control.

When his gaze finally found her face, another jolt hit him, this time in his chest and worrying.

She was beautiful.

Julian stepped back, looked up at the building and then at the similar one opposite.

A Promise of Passion is the story of Alicia, a vampire hunter, and Kassian, a vampire who believes she’s the reincarnation of his lost love and is intent on proving it to her. Kassian has just saved Alicia from a come on by another vampire, whisking her into his booth at a nightclub, and revealed that the nice man who had been offering to buy her drinks had been a vampire. Needless to say, she’s a little mortified and embarrassed that she was too drunk to realise the danger she had been in, and lets her head hit the table.

Her head turned to the side so her cheek was pressed against the dirty sticky black table top. Dark chocolate eyes looked up at him. She looked positively miserable.

Without thinking, Kassian reached across the table to her and pushed her hair behind her ear so he could see her face better. She surprised him by closing her eyes when his fingertips accidentally brushed her cheek. A sigh broke free of her lips, drawing his attention there. Brave fingers danced lower, trembling with anticipation and the feel of her soft skin and her warmth, until his thumb swept along her lower lip. His insides lightened but became heavy at the same time, his mind dizzy with the feel of her and the growing tightness coiling inside him. He opened his hand and covered her cheek with his palm, his fingers resting along the line of her jaw. His thumb continued to caress her sweet lips. They parted slightly, enough for him to feel her hot breath against his skin.

His heart whispered that any moment now she’d come to her senses and realise what he was doing, and then she’d be fighting him again.

“I died… I mean… she died in your arms,” she whispered against his thumb.
