Character Biography - Lilah

Lilah

Lilah is a human owned against her will. Lord Ashville took her from her life of misfortune and gave his blood to her without her consent, forming a master-servant bond between them that can only be broken by death.

A strong and courageous woman, Lilah refused to let Lord Ashville's ownership of her wreck her life and often rebelled against him when she was living at his mansion as one of his servants. This led to him growing tired of her behaviour and he sent her to work at Vampirerotique. There, she met Javier, the elite vampire acting as Staff Manager and one of the owners of the theatre. She developed feelings for him over the two years she worked at Vampirerotique, even though he was not only her boss but forbidden by law.

Lilah knew the risks and tried to resist her desire for Javier, but when she found herself alone with him, she couldn't bring herself to care about the consequences. She would rather have Javier for a short time than never know his touch or his kiss.

Character Interview

This interview took place on January 26th 2013, at Vampirerotique in London, UK

Felicity:
I have Lilah here with me today to talk about her book, Covet and life at Vampirerotique. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?
Lilah:
I haven’t had a very smooth life. I spent a large part of it on the street before coming under the “ownership” of Lord Ashville, an aristocrat vampire. Some vampires have a sick sense of right and wrong, and Lord Ashville was one of those vampires. He took me from the streets and practically enslaved me. I had to work for him at his mansion. When things didn’t work out there because I was proving to be quite the disruptive force when it came to his other owned humans, he shipped me off to Vampirerotique. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess. I’m glad he did though. I hated the bastard and wanted to run away. That’s just not possible though. His claim on me is like a homing beacon or GPS. He knows where I am at all times, unless he travels a very long distance from me.
Felicity:
It sounds as though you went from a bad life to a far worse one. It must have been very difficult for you. I know that afterwards you discovered that you were meant to have a choice about becoming his property. That must have made you hate him all the more.
Lilah:
It did. That’s why I started acting up and trying to escape. I didn’t willingly enter into the contract and I figured I should be allowed to get the hell out of there and away from his insane world. I never believed things like vampires existed, but they’re certainly darker in reality than they are in films. Lord Ashville was cruel and it sickened me to call him master.
Felicity:
It hasn’t all been bad for you though. By becoming Lord Ashville’s, you ended up at Vampirerotique and there you met Javier. How did you meet and how did you feel about them initially?
Lilah:
This might sound corny, but I honestly feel it was love at first sight. When I arrived there scared and angry, bitter over my treatment, I felt in my heart that all vampires were the same. The first few I met proved my theory true, but then Javier walked into the room and everything changed. He took me away from the meeting between Lord Ashville and Antoine, one of the other owners of the theatre, and introduced me to the rest of the staff. He took care of me... I had never thought a vampire could be so gentle and so caring. Javier proved me wrong. My hatred of my master reached a new depth then... because I was bound to him and that meant that Javier and I could never be together, even if he returned the feelings I began to feel for him as we worked together.
Felicity:
It really sounds as though your love was destined to have an unhappy ending. I’m glad that in the end it all worked out though and your life is now so much better. As you mentioned, your relationship with Javier was forbidden by sacred law. It must have been difficult for you to see him every night and know you could never act on your feelings. How did you cope?
Lilah:
Not very well. Whenever Javier would pass me by when I was cleaning the theatre or would stop near me to speak to someone else, I would lose track of time watching him. Sometimes he looked at me too. Not at first... but as my first year with Vampirerotique wore on, he began to look at me too. Just glances to start with, stolen moments where our eyes would meet... those moments shook me though and I knew without a doubt that there was something happening between us... and that it was something we could never act on without fear of losing our lives. I spent two years falling in love with Javier and I felt deep inside me that he returned those feelings, but we were bound, destined to remain apart even when we wanted to be together. It was terrible.
Felicity:
You’re making me want to cry. It’s so cruel that you couldn’t be with each other without risking death. But you’re here, alive and well, so things must have turned out okay in the end. Can you tell us about what happened in your story?
Lilah:
I remember that Javier had been away for a month. It seemed like an eternity. I missed him so much and when he returned, I saw him straight away. I had been a little bad. I had punched Victor, the theatre’s top performer, and broken his nose somehow. I didn’t think I had that much strength in me and I had thought he would stop me before I could actually hit him. Javier came to hear my side of the story. Unfortunately... or perhaps fortunately... I was cleaning the empty theatre boxes at the time. It was during the opening performance of the season... and with the erotic show happening in the background and no one able to see us... things just sort of happened.
Felicity:
I would say more than a “thing” happened in that box! (she blushes) How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?
Lilah:
I was scared at first. It was a hard thing to go through and on top of that something else happened and while it means I will always be with Javier, it’s also a lot to take in and get used to... but I’m settling into my new life at the theatre.
Felicity:
Your story, Covet, is a book in a series. Can you tell us a little about the series and can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?
Lilah:
Absolutely. I’ve made appearances in many of the stories... or should I call them romances? Vampirerotique was a strange enough place to work at when I was part of the staff. Making the switch from staff to lover of one of the owners was one hell of a leap, and I’m still settling in. Javier doesn’t want me to work anymore but I like to do my part, and I think that has made it easier for me to integrate with the owners. Antoine wasn’t pleased about everything that happened and he always has such a weight on his shoulders that I hated adding to it. I had thought him quite soulless when I had been working for the theatre, but now that I’ve spent more time with him, I know that he’s just under a lot of pressure, constantly. I don’t envy him at all, but I do my best to help ease his burden and I think he appreciates it. Snow can be quite the handful but he seems to like me. I’ve even made him laugh a few times. I do all I can for him because I honestly feel that I owe him my life, and the life of my love too.
Felicity:
Snow is a contradiction, it has to be said, but from what I’ve seen of him, he’s a good man under that growly exterior and he suffers a lot because of his bloodlust. I’m going to end on something a little more fun. Describe yourself in one word?
Lilah:
Courageous.
Felicity:
I couldn’t have chosen a better word myself. Any woman who walks into a world of vampires and comes out with the heart of one of them, and the appreciation of two other very powerful vampires, has to be courageous. Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?
Lilah:
Thank you for interviewing me and I’ve read the interview you did with Javier. Boy, did he get some sweet loving after that. The man is such a romantic. I think it drives his brother, Andreu, crazy but I think it’s wonderful and something I would never change about him. Good luck with the rest of the interviews. I can’t wait to see how they turn out!
