I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to exclude any readers by making my books exclusive to Amazon, but the number of people I can reach with the Amazon KDP Select programme is high enough that I really can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t justify not giving it a go for the minimum required time. The books will go back on Apple, Nook, Sony and Kobo etc after the 90 days are up, so they will be available to readers who use those devices. I think numbers speak for themselves though. <\/p>\n
In Heat<\/b> moved over 1000 copies in February and looks like it will move over 2000 this month on Amazon, and it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s currently in the Top 1000 Kindle books<\/b>. It has not left the Top 1500 since the start of February.<\/p>\n
In Heat: Mating Call<\/b> has sold over 500 copies in February and is likely to sell 1000 copies in March. <\/p>\n
Prior to being an Amazon KDP Select exclusive, In Heat<\/b> was doing a grand total of under 300 sales a month across ALL<\/b> websites. Around 200 of those were on Amazon, and the remaining 100 were spread across the other 7 retail sites where it was available. The books I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m talking about adding to KDP Select and making exclusive to Amazon for 90 days are books that are doing under 100 sales a month at those 7 retail sites. If I can reach an extra 900-1900 people by doing this, then it makes business sense to do it. I want to expand my reach as an author and this seems a viable method of doing that.<\/p>\n
Like I said, I would be removing one or two books at a time and making them exclusive to Amazon for 90 days. They will then go back onto the other retailers, and I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll make a different book exclusive to Amazon. I won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t make the books totally exclusive to Amazon forever. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just wrong and I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t want to exclude anyone. There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a chance these books won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t do as well as In Heat<\/b> or that book is just a fluke or it’s because it’s part of a two book series, and I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll be forgetting the whole idea. Who knows? But I need to find out for myself. Feel free to rail at me but writing is a business and this makes sense to me as an author looking to expand her reach. I have to experiment with things like this to see if it’s viable and helps me promote my brand and my books. I can’t really apologise for it. I’m sure many authors would do the same, or perhaps even you would if you were an author trying to make a name for yourself and reach a bigger audience.<\/p>\n
