Interview with Valentine from my Vampires Realm series

Ah, it’s that time when I get to lure my favourite hero into my hot seat. Valentine has held onto the number 1 spot in my heart since I wrote his story back in 2006 and while some have come close to joining him there, no one has managed it yet.

Valentine is from my Vampires Realm series and first appeared in Prophecy: Child of Light, which is book one in the Prophecy Trilogy, in which he is the hero (for all three books, of course). He has also made appearances in other Vampires Realm stories, such as Seventh Circle and Spellbound, with Prophecy at his side (and Venturi too). More recently, he showed up in Masquerade, which is due out in May 2012.

If you want to get a feel for Valentine, then you can read more about him at the Vampires Realm website: http://www.vampiresrealm.com/vampire_valentine.php

REMEMBER: If you want Valentine to answer your question, leave it in a comment on the post and I’ll pass it on to him and he’ll answer it for you.

(Valentine enters the room and settles himself in the black velvet armchair opposite me. He neatly arranges his dark red knee-length military-style jacket and then sweeps his long fingers over his black hair. His green eyes fix on mine. I clear my throat. Valentine is always a little tetchy around humans so I hope I don’t end up as dinner)

FH: So, what have you been up to since we last saw you?

Valentine: Things have been busy. My bloodline has learned to behave themselves and accept my rule, but now I am constantly working. I had been privy to the inner workings of a bloodline during my position as a hunter, but I had not anticipated that it would be so much work. Lord Kalinor made it appear easy.

FH: I bet it’s anything but easy, but at least you finally have them on your side. You say that you’re constantly working, so does that mean you don’t get to spend much time with Prophecy?

Valentine: She often comes to visit, but at the moment it is difficult for me to find time to go to her, even when I desire to. Cornelius is a competent Chosen Son, but he lacks the leadership skills and respect required to run a bloodline. Often when I leave, the house is in pandemonium by the time I return.

FH: What about Xavier? As your head guard, isn’t he able to control them?

(Valentine sighs emphatically, the first sign I’ve seen of him breathing. As a vampire of almost three hundred, he rarely breathes.)

Valentine: Little woman, I thought that during the documentation process of my species history you would have learned that such a thing would be a disaster. A guard has no place in commanding a bloodline when one of the leaders is there. If Xavier were to step in, the bloodline would lose all respect for Cornelius.

(I shrink into my black velvet armchair, bringing my feet up onto the seat, feeling like a chided youngling)

FH: I see. I don’t confess to being any good at politics. Don’t you miss Prophecy?

(The barest hint of a smile touches his lips and a shine enters his green eyes)

Valentine: With all of my heart.

FH: Aww.

(Valentine glares at me, his eyes briefly changing to blue, their vampiric state. I swallow and silently take back what I did)

Valentine: (He looks down at his hands in his lap and then back at me) Prophecy understands that I must spend time with my bloodline, but sometimes I am able to go to her. We often find time to walk the city together.

FH: (grins) Yeah, I know all about your moonlit walks and how you kill for her. Super sweet.

Valentine: (raises an eyebrow) A mate should provide for his beloved. I am only following my nature as a vampire. I am sure humans do similar things, such as a male requesting that a female joins him for dinner in a restaurant. It is the same thing.

FH: That puts a new twist on the phrase “dining out”. (I smile at him when he glowers at me) I get what you’re saying though. You want to spend quality time with Prophecy and can’t do that at either mansion, so you head off into the city for some alone time. Do you ever get away for longer periods?

Valentine: We have sometimes gone to stay at one of the apartments I keep in various cities around Europe. Prophecy is terrible at abusing her right to use her bloodline’s private jet and often insists that we go to Italy for only a night or two at a time. She is still researching her mother’s life.

FH: The witch? It’s nice that you help her with that. It means a lot to her.

Valentine: (comes as close to smiling as he gets)

FH: So, do you have any other adventures planned? Prophecy mentioned that Venturi had something in the pipeline. Are you involved in that too?

Valentine: (nods) Yes, we have been to Romania to see him about a problem that he has with the gate there. It is still active and causing trouble for him on a regular basis. We need to find a way to close it permanently.

FH: That sounds a little more tame than your previous adventures. Are you expecting trouble?

Valentine: Prophecy has been seeing visions recently, none of them good, and some of them involving the gate, so we must go to Romania again to see if there is something we perhaps overlooked during our first visit.

FH: Your romance with Prophecy is still pretty hot, and I can see that you really love her. What’s it like having another man in your life though?

(Valentine growls)

FH: I mean, in a non-sexual way. Prophecy said that you two aren’t really into that side of the relationship.

Valentine: As long as he stays within the boundaries of our agreement, and does not attempt to take Prophecy away from me, or take up all of her time, then I do not mind his occasional visits.

FH: Spoken like a man who doesn’t want to share his toys with the other boys in the playground. I can’t blame you. It must be strange allowing your mate to be with another man.

Valentine: (looks sour) She knows her place, and knows not to overstep the boundaries. She is my mate, and can feel everything that I do. I do not believe that she would ever betray me with Venturi.

(the door opens and Prophecy rushes in and lands on Valentine’s lap. She loops her arms around his neck and kisses him)

Prophecy: I would never hurt you. I love you too much. (she strokes his face) If you commanded it, I would never look at Venturi again. My heart is yours.

Valentine: (smiles broadly and I almost keel over from witnessing such a rare thing) And mine yours.

(Prophecy peppers kisses all over his face. It’s strange to see him smiling properly. I give them a moment and then clear my throat. They both look at me.)

FH: Maybe I should wrap this up and give you some alone time. I have a few silly questions that I like to ask the people I’m interviewing. Firstly, what’s your favourite colour?

Valentine: Dark red.

FH: And your favourite smell?

Valentine: Fresh blood, or Prophecy’s scent.

FH: Your favourite possession?

Valentine: (squeezes Prophecy’s waist) The beautiful woman in my arms. (She frowns at him)

Prophecy: I’m a possession now?

Valentine: The only thing I ever wanted. (That gets a smile from Prophecy)

FH: Favourite thing to do?

Valentine: Walk the grounds or the city with Prophecy on my arm. I like nothing more than being alone with her (he gives me a pointed look)

FH: And finally, what’s your favourite time of year?

Valentine: Winter. The nights are long and the city is quiet, and my workload is lighter. I can spend more time with Prophecy then.

(Prophecy starts kissing him again)

FH: Well, it was… yeah… maybe I’ll leave you alone now. (I get up, taking my notes on my next interviewees with me, and sneak out of the room)

Interview with Julian from Love Immortal

*claps hands* I have my joint number 2 favourite hero with my here today for an interview. Julian from Love Immortal holds the 2nd spot with Aleksandr from Heart of Darkness… two very sexy heroes indeed.

Julian, for those not familiar with him, is the sinfully gorgeous, dark haired and icy-blue eyed immortal protector of Lauren, the latest reincarnation of a goddess he once worshipped. He also commanded her army of Arcadian soldiers in their fight against Lycaon, the vicious original werewolf who was cursed by Zeus for tricking him into eating human flesh. Julian is drop dead handsome and with a beautiful soul to match his exterior. He’s skilled with his silver katana, has preternatural strength, speed, sight, hearing and senses, and is a very determined yet sensitive man. He’s also one of the ancestors, along with Lauren, of what we think of as vampires. Just don’t let him hear you say that!

REMEMBER: If you want Julian to answer your question, leave it in a comment on the post and I’ll pass it on to him and he’ll answer it for you.

FH: I have Julian here with me today to talk about his book, Love Immortal. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?

Julian: If necessary. I was born three thousand years ago in Arcadia, what you would think of as Greece these days, and died there. My goddess, Illia, gave me life immortal and Zeus allowed me to pass over, charging me with the duty of giving Illia’s reincarnations my blood in order to awaken them. I am also her protector. Illia’s blood has gifted me with preternatural strength and abilities, but because of it I also share her need for blood as sustenance. Upon my rebirth as her immortal protector, my thirst for blood awakened and I have not been able to eat or drink anything else since. It is a small price to pay for being able to continue to my duty as her commander.

FH: Can you tell us about what happened in your story?

Julian: My story has been flowing for the past three thousand years, broken into chapters that encompassed the lives of each of Illia’s incarnations. The one you chose to write about was the final chapter, in which Lauren was born as the next incarnation and our paths crossed. From the moment I met her, I feared her fate would be the same as all of her predecessors and that she would fall to Lycaon’s blade, the first werewolf and the man she was charged with the duty of defeating. Lycaon had killed all those that had come before her, even Illia, and had continued with his plan to gain revenge on Zeus and Olympus for the curse they had placed on him. For the first time in forever, I hoped that Lycaon would fall and I vowed to do all in my power to ensure that Lauren survived.

FH: In Love Immortal, you meet Lauren, who is the latest reincarnation of the goddess Illia. How did you meet and how did you feel about her initially?

Julian: Lauren is unlike any of the previous incarnations of my lost goddess. She is so much warmer and more compassionate than all of them, even Illia herself. Lauren made me realise that I had long been dead inside and breathed life back into me little by little, until I slowly realised my feelings for her. I had been through so much pain because of her predecessors that it was difficult for me to bring myself to trust her even when I wanted to with all of my heart. I couldn’t take my eyes off her from the moment I set them on her, and I knew I had to find a way to make her mine, even risking my heart to achieve that.

FH: Your relationship with Lauren is complicated because of your role as her protector and the things that have happened in your past. Was it difficult at first?

Julian: It was very difficult. It took a lot for me to come to trust her and convince myself that she was worth the fight, and that she was different to the others and I wasn’t imagining the feelings that she showed towards me. I think I frustrated her immensely at first. In fact, I know that I did. Sometimes she mentions what a pain I was and how hard I made her work. I had not realised that I had made things so difficult for her. I had only thought of guarding my heart against her because of the things that had happened to me in my past and the pain I had been through. I couldn’t bear the thought of Lauren putting me through such pain too. It would have been the end of me.

FH: But it wasn’t, and things turned out well for you in the end. How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?

Julian: It has been busy. We had a short period of rest together to recuperate from the battle and then went straight back to work. Lauren is very enthusiastic about her work and what she sees as her duty. We have trained hard together too, so I know that she is ready to face whatever demons may come our way. At the moment, we are working closely with Duke and are also in contact with Morgan about his werewolf problem. Lauren says that we cannot delay much longer but I have little desire to set foot in Paris again, or see that vampire. I am certain he will try to gain Lauren’s affection somehow and that is something I cannot allow, and if it came to blows I know that Lauren would be angry with me. I cannot help myself when I feel someone is trying to take her from me. She is mine and I love her with all of my heart and my soul. I live for her. I would die for her.

FH: You old romantic! I think it’s beautiful that you’re so possessive of her now that you have her. I have one more question for you and it’s something you’ll need to think about. Describe yourself in one word.

Julian: Steadfast.

FH: I would have gone with gorgeous. *smiles* Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

Julian: Only my thanks to you for penning the tale of our love and victory, and that I hope we can work together again in the future. Lauren has mentioned that you have had several requests for more of our tales. I am sure there is something we can do to satisfy those readers of yours. Another epic quest perhaps. Do you think they would enjoy reading it?

FH: I do. I can’t wait to hear it. Thank you again for being here today, and say hi to Lauren and the gang for me. *watches his tight backside as he walks away* yum.

Interview with Kearn from Forbidden Blood

I’ve lured a rather handsome silver haired vampire venator into my lovely interview room. I shall introduce you all to Kearn, the leading man in my vampire romance book, Forbidden Blood.

The book is FREE this weekend on Amazon Kindle (see the end of the interview for links)

(Kearn enters, swiftly crosses the room, dressed in a very fine white shirt and black trousers, and sits in the black velvet armchair opposite me. His silver-white hair is tucked neatly behind his ears and his green eyes pierce mine. I glance down to catch a glimpse of the elaborate silver markings that cover his right hand to his fingertips. The design covers all the way to his shoulder and isn’t a tattoo, it’s a link to the endless dark given to him by the Sovereignty when he took on the role of Venator. A Venator is a sort of hunter.)

REMEMBER: If you want Kearn to answer your question, leave it in a comment on the post and I’ll pass it on to him and he’ll answer it for you.

FH: So, Kearn… it’s great to see you again. How about we start off with you telling everyone a little about yourself?

KEARN: I am a Venator for the vampire species. I was chosen to succeed my father in his role as Venator for House Savernake. I was not happy with this, and I still resent the Sovereignty for the pain they caused my family and myself by forcing this role upon myself rather than passing it to my older brother, Kyran. A Venator is a hunter. It is my duty to carry out the sentence on vampires known to have broken the law. It is not a duty that I relish. I wish I were free of it, but that can only come through death or retirement, and I am a long way from either. I have a reason to live now. It was given to me by my beloved Amber.

FH: Can you tell us about what happened in your story?

KEARN: Most certainly. I was pursuing a known Source Blood abuser and had been hunting him for several years prior to the night I stumbled upon Amber under attack by a group of vampires. As a Venator, it is my duty to protect humans from my kind. I had not realised that she was a Source Blood, and by chance, the man who had sought to control her turned out to be the one I was looking for. He is elusive as the wind but with Amber’s help I was finally able to track him down and sentence him. It was difficult for me, and I do not think I could have done it without Amber’s assistance.

FH: As you mentioned, you meet Amber in your story, Forbidden Blood. How did you feel about her initially?

KEARN: (sighs) The benefit of hindsight is a beautiful thing. Now I can see with clarity that I was falling for her from the moment I set eyes on her, before I first tasted her blood. At the time, I believed myself indifferent and purely under the influence of her blood. Source Blood is rare. It is a gene in the blood of a specific line of humans, and it can bestow godlike powers upon vampires. It is also highly addictive. When we first met, I was reluctant to interact with humans. Amber was the first human I had actually worked with. Most of the time they are dead by the time I reach them. She entranced me so quickly that I was under her spell before I could realise what was happening, and that only put her life in more danger. She was an easy target for the man I was hunting and he knew that he could use her to weaken me and drive me to act on impulse rather than rationally.

FH: Your relationship with Amber was complicated because she’s human, and a Source Blood, and it’s illegal for you to taste her. Was it difficult around her after you had taken a sip of her blood?

KEARN: Extremely. It had been a long time since I had tasted Source Blood and the effects of Amber’s on me were stronger than I had anticipated. Her blood is divine, a drug more addictive than anything else on this planet, and once I had tasted it, I wanted more. I could not help myself and it was difficult to control myself around her. That one sip triggered hunger in me stronger than any I had felt before and I craved her. Not just her blood though. I craved the whole of her. I needed her to be mine and I knew it was asking a lot of her after everything I had already put her through, but she is so beautiful, and she did not shy away or think me a monster because of what I was or what I desired from her. She accepted me and she brought me back to life and filled my world with light, chasing back the darkness.

FH: That’s beautiful. For all your growl and menacing edge, you’re a big softie when it comes to Amber. How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?

KEARN: It has been quiet for the past few months. Amber is settling into her new life and says that she learns something new each night that we wake together and I teach her about the ways of my kind. Society has accepted her in a way I could not have wished or hoped for. Archduke Pendragon saw to that. We still turn heads at the balls and Amber’s name is on everyone’s lips. They are very eager to see how she turns out. I have been working with some of the other vampire Venators and the Sovereignty on matters regarding our species. It keeps me busy but I always find time for Amber. I want her to never feel that she is alone. She comes with me wherever I go when she can, and is becoming a very good ambassador for better treatment of humans who are brought into our world and are in transition.

FH: Your story, Forbidden Blood, is a book in a series. Can you tell us a little about the series and can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?

KEARN: I believe that we are in the next book. The whole series follows the vampire Venators in their missions for the Sovereignty, a ruling body of demons that govern the nine demon species. They are the remains of their species, and countless centuries old, and extremely powerful. They bless their Venators with the power to sentence those who break the law. For a vampire, the weapon comes in the form of silver markings that cover the length of our strongest arm, in my case my right, but some are left-handed. Vampires have only a few laws that we uphold, and they are all related to Source Blood. I am not sure of the laws of the other species. Vampires do not tend to interact with them if we can avoid it, although I am aware that many of them share a complex society like ours. Lycanthropes and therianthropes in particular. I am told that the therianthropes are generally broken into two groups, the ailuranthropes, or those who shift into a cat form, and the rest. Vampires do not tend to associate with either group, but there are times when we are required to work together.

FH: Describe yourself in one word?

KEARN: Loyal.

FH: Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add before you leave?

KEARN: I wish to thank you for taking this time to interview me, and I also hope that you will be able to interview Amber too as she was very excited to hear that I was coming to see you to answer these questions. I am sure she would find it a pleasant change to her usual daily routine, and would like to meet with you again. I would also like to extend my thanks to the humans reading this, and to offer words of comfort in that the Venators are there to protect them should any of them be Source Bloods. I hope they will read, and enjoy my story, and also the glimpse it gives of my world.

FH: Ah, you’re always so very eloquent. I’ll let you get on now as I’m sure you’re busy as always.

(Kearn nods, rises from the seat and leaves the room without a backward glance. I have the feeling he’s going to tell Amber about the interview)

Interview with Apollyon from the Her Angel series

I have the pleasure of interviewing Apollyon today… and I’m sure many readers out there would agree that it is a pleasure to be sitting near him, basking in his dark, gorgeous glory…

If you’re new to the Her Angel series and haven’t read any of the books, then you won’t know who Apollyon is so I’ll try to describe him for you. Apollyon is one of the darkest angels in the series and the oldest. He was one of the original angels and spent time as the angel of death, and he’s also the Great Destroyer, an angel who will rain Hell down on Earth during the Apocalypse. On top of that he’s the king of the bottomless pit and often fights the Devil to keep him imprisoned there. Apollyon is talk, dark and as deadly handsome as they come, with long black hair he often wears in a neat ponytail and sapphire blue eyes. He has stunning black wings and since he’s of the division of angels of death he has beautiful black armour edged with gold, and his is decorated with gold lions to distinguish him from your average angel of death. He’s phenomenally powerful and is more than happy to wreak havoc on his enemies, but his black heart has been tamed by a petite French witch called Serenity.

He is also a particularly impatient man when it comes to interviews, so I’m going to get on with it.

REMEMBER: If you want Apollyon to answer your question, leave it in a comment on the post and I’ll pass it on to him and he’ll answer it for you.

FH: I have Apollyon here with me today to talk about his book, Her Dark Angel. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?

APOLLYON: Indeed I can. I was last reborn several thousand years ago into my usual role. I am one of the few angels who carries what is known as an eternal duty. That is a duty, or series of duties, that was given to me upon my creation. Because of my eternal duty, I am always reborn as an angel belonging to the division of death… and because of my eternal duty it is almost impossible for me to leave Heaven. Although I no longer report to them or work for them, I am still under the influence of my duty, and should need arise or events occur that trigger that duty, I will have to do the bidding of Heaven and fulfil it as only I can. Originally, I was the only angel of death, but mortals became intent on war and fighting, and so there is now a fleet of angels who carry out that responsibility. One of my main duties was to guard the Devil in the bottomless pit, and to fight him to keep him contained there. If I lose, the Devil will be free to roam Hell and then Earth.

FH: You mentioned the bottomless pit. When your story, Her Dark Angel, starts, you’re in Hell guarding the Devil, and you had been down there for some time. What was that like?

APOLLYON: Horrible. I had begun to tire of my time down there and my master had not spoken to me in many long centuries. I was alone with only the pool of history there. It is a pool in which the events in the mortal realm are recorded. There are pools in Heaven that have a similar function, but the one in Hell is unique. I would watch the world from the pool and it was the only contact I had with others. I grew tired of my duty there, alone and forgotten, left to suffer the oppressive heat and stench of Hell and endure the voice of the Devil. When I first saw Serenity in the pool, it was like seeing sunlight for the first time, or breathing fresh air again. I did not even realise I was manipulating the pool so I could see her. I thought it was chance that it would keep focusing on her.

FH: How did you meet Serenity and how did you feel about them initially?

APOLLYON: I heard someone calling me. It is difficult to explain what it feels like, but it is a sense that someone is speaking directly to my heart and compelling me. It was hard at first to discern the location of the call. I thought it was my master as only his voice was strong enough to call me from Hell. I took my chance to leave and made my way up to the mortal realm. When I reached the location of the call and discovered it was not my master but Serenity who had called me, I was surprised to say the least. A mortal should not have the ability to call an angel. I was curious and wanted to meet her and discover how she had called me. She saw straight through my glamour, the spell all angels cast to hide our wings and armour from mortal eyes and make us appear human. I knew then that she was different but I had not anticipated that she was a witch. Unfortunately, she knew of my reputation and fled. When I finally convinced her that I was not going to kill her and that I did not appreciate being called the angel of death since it was no longer my role, she confessed what she had been doing when I heard her call to me… and I realised that it was not her voice that had called me but rather that her heart had called to mine. I had felt her pain over the betrayal she had suffered at the hands of her ex-lover. Without caring about the consequences, I offered to serve her and give her the vengeance she needed in order to heal her heart. I wanted to crush him for what he had done to her.

FH: Serious words from a very serious man. It must have been strange at first being around a witch considering that she can see through your glamour and see your black wings and armour. Did that cause problems between you?

APOLLYON: I believe it did at first. Serenity knew all about angels and had no problem accepting what I was in the sense of believing I was real, but she had difficulty accepting my growing feelings for her. As did I. The moment I met her, I felt as though she had cast a spell on me. I could think of only her. When we first touched and then danced, I knew I had to have her. My little French witch had entranced me. I would have done anything for her and anything to have her, and I was intent on proving that it was possible for me to love her and that we could be together.

FH: How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?

APOLLYON: I wish I could say that is has changed in the way I had hoped it would but while Serenity’s voice is strong and I am under contract with her, I still have to continue to carry out any of my duties that are intrinsically linked to me and my creation. I do live in the mortal realm now, with Serenity in Paris, and we frequently have visitors in the form of my fellow warriors and their women. I have grown to hate it when anyone calls on me to go to Hell. That place is a prison to me and I know that Serenity fears for me whenever I have to go down there. The Devil doesn’t have a voice strong enough to sway me but I understand her fear.

FH: Your story, Her Dark Angel, is a book in a series about several angels from different divisions. All of them are angels you’re familiar with and many would see you as their leader. Is that how you see yourself?

APOLLYON: (laughs) No. Not at all. I am the oldest and possibly the strongest, but I would never see myself as their leader. We are all on an equal footing. At least, that is what I believe. We all have different strengths too. While my power might be stronger than that which others bear, they have strength where I do not. Einar is an incredible hunter, able to track the wiliest of prey, and has the ability to heal injuries. Lukas has an amazing strength of heart and is often the one to keep a level head in a crisis and convince those of us bent on violence to look at things clearly before taking the leap, and he is an incredible warrior. Marcus is one of the strongest angels I know and his skill with his spear is unparalleled. He is also a keen strategist and uses intelligence in his battles. Of course, we all have our weaknesses, and they all seem to be the same. We have all lost our hearts to our women. No matter how level-headed we try to be, the moment our women are in danger, all hell breaks loose.

FH: Describe yourself in one word?

APOLLYON: Destructive.

FH: The Great Destroyer finally admits that he can be a touch destructive? I suppose it comes with the territory and after witnessing you in Her Guardian Angel, I can agree with that word choice. Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

APOLLYON: Only my gratitude to those reading this interview with me and my hope that this has given them better insight into myself and my fellow angels. I believe that since my story is the first in your series, that you have put a special price on it as an introduction to the series. I am not sure whether to be flattered by this or dismayed. (waves his hand dismissively) Never mind. I am sure you only desired for more mortals to read my story and fall in love with our world.

FH: Maybe I wanted them to fall in love with you. (he looks uncomfortable) You’re very popular in my series, you know? Anyway, you’re right and it’s only a limited time offer on your book, Her Dark Angel, and I hope that readers will check it out. I’ll let you get back to Paris and Serenity now.

If you want to read a little more about Apollyon and fall in love with him for yourself, his book is just $0.99 this weekend.

Interview with Aleksandr from Heart of Darkness

Ah… one of my joint number 2 heroes is here with me today. Aleksandr from my vampire romance novel Heart of Darkness holds the spot with Julian from my other vampire romance book Love Immortal, and both of them are sexy as hell (and a little damaged)…

Now let me paint a pretty portrait of Aleksandr so you can picture him in your mind.

Aleksandr is born of royal blood, the eldest son of the Nemov bloodline that rules all vampires in Europe. At over eight hundred years old, he appears to be in his mid thirties by human standards. He’s an imposing man, of broad build and tall stature, as handsome as a prince should be, and quick witted and intelligent. With his dark short hair and piercing steel-grey eyes, and sensual mouth, he can get any woman’s attention but is very focused when he pursues the one he’s set his sights on. He has old-world charm in spades, can waltz his way into your heart without a single misstep, and has the kind of honour that drives him to do all in his power to protect the object of his affections. He’s dangerous, deadly, and has a track record of fighting vampire hunters that is four hundred years long. When provoked, his eyes burn red and his fangs emerge. It’s the only warning a vampire hunter gets before he meets Death a few seconds later.

REMEMBER: If you want Aleksandr to answer your question, leave it in a comment on the post and I’ll pass it on to him and he’ll answer it for you.

FH: I have Aleksandr here with me today to talk about his book, Heart of Darkness. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?

ALEKSANDR: I am Aleksandr Nemov, former heir prince of the Nemov household, the royal family of European vampires. I disinherited myself and abdicated the throne, leaving it to my younger brother Vasiliy to inherit upon our father’s death, so I could pursue the vampire hunter who murdered my sister and wipe his progeny from the Earth. I have spent the past four centuries of my eight hundred years in this world seeking out all related to the man who took my sister’s life and bestowing justice upon them.

FH: Was it really necessary to break ties with your family so permanently in order to purse her killer and his offspring?

ALEKSANDR: Absolutely. The Nemov household is responsible for leading vampire society into a brighter future. They were the ones who discovered that we could attain humanity through limiting our kills and because of them, vampires were able to slowly evolve from little more than mindless bloodthirsty beasts into people who could function socially and blend amongst humans. My family teaches pacifism. What I desired to do went against everything they stood for. I had to sever all ties with them in order to protect their cause and not bloody it with my actions. It was painful, but necessary.

FH: That seems quite sad to me. You sacrificed your life in order to pursue your sister’s killer and protect your people from his entire family line. Isn’t it dangerous too? You mentioned about gaining humanity through limiting kills. Surely what you’re doing goes against that?

ALEKSANDR: Unfortunately it does. I have killed thousands since beginning my vendetta. Hunters from that man’s bloodline as well as others. I lose a little of my humanity each year. The darkness is rising within me and sometimes I fear that I will lose myself to the black abyss within my heart and devolve into a beast.

FH: It’s not all doom and gloom for you though, is it? In Heart of Darkness, you meet Elise. How did you meet and how did you feel about them initially?

ALEKSANDR: Elise came upon me in Prague after I had killed a female vampire hunter. Butchered might be a more appropriate word. The darkness had me in its grip but just the sound of her voice and the sight of her made it recede faster than it had ever done before. She fought me and I found I didn’t have the heart to fight her back. I was surprised I could even bring myself to defend against her attacks. She was beautiful, breathtaking in every way. Not just looks. It was her strength, how she fought me, her skill. All of it combined to still my heart and steal my breath. I ended up beneath her, pinned against icy ground that couldn’t chill me while I was looking at her. I knew then that I had to have her.

FH: Your relationship with Elise is complicated because you don’t exactly start out on the right foot. You didn’t exactly make it easy on her, or yourself, did you?

ALEKSANDR: No, I can see that now. I had thought of nothing but hunting for four hundred years and before then I had thought only of bedding whatever woman took my fancy at court back at the palace. I was what your readers may affectionately call a rake. A man with only the pursuit of satisfying empty lusts on his mind. I made my pursuit of Elise into a game, a hunt for her, desiring that she come to my bed and behave as the women at court had around me centuries before. It did not take me long to realise that modern women were completely at odds with the women I had known back then, and my pursuit of Elise was only made more complicated by the fact she is a guard. A strong female, with a strong mind and a strong distaste for being made to feel inferior and weak. My actions towards her just served to push her further away from me at first. Eventually I adjusted enough to modern society and learned enough about Elise that I realised my mistake and also that I needed more than just her in my bed each day. I needed her love. I wanted her to save me from the darkness within my heart.

FH: That’s so sweet. I’m glad you realised in the nick of time that you were being an egotistical womanising rake. *smiles* Can you tell us about what happened in your story?

ALEKSANDR: I came to Prague pursuing the final member of the murderer’s bloodline. We had chased each other for long years, clashing at times but never dealing the killing blow. When I met Elise, I wanted to stay around her. She mesmerised me and I felt compelled to know more about her, to convince her to be my lover. I did the one thing I hadn’t done in the four centuries since my hunt began. I entered the house of a bloodline and sought their assistance. I had remained outside society because I didn’t want to involve them. My pursuit of Elise saw me break that rule, and my presence placed her family in grave danger.

FH: How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?

ALEKSANDR: I am learning temperance again. We have remained at the mansion in Prague and Elise has continued her duty as a guard. She walks with me sometimes in the city at night, teaching me more about it, and I learn more about her at the same time. I am fortunate to have my sweet Elise. Without her, I would not have survived the darkness. She risked everything for me. I dote on her when she lets me, which is not often. She prefers me to teach her new fighting techniques to fine jewels and dresses, but I am learning to accept that. The darkness within me is beginning to fade but it will be long decades before I have completely mastered it again. Elise fusses over me because of it and I find myself unable to stop her. In fact, I secretly enjoy it… but do not tell her that. I fear she would stop if she knew.

FH: We won’t. I’ll end on something a little more fun. Describe yourself in one word?

ALEKSANDR: Honourable.

FH: That does suit you. What’s your favourite colour?

ALEKSANDR: Red… I like to see it emerge in Elise’s eyes whenever I excite her a little too much.

FH: A little bit TMI there.

ALEKSANDR: What is this TMI?

FH: You’re so antiquated sometimes. It means too much information. Favourite smell?

ALEKSANDR: Freshly fallen snow. It smells like blood.

FH: I know that. I should have guessed. Favourite city?

ALEKSANDR: It would have been my home city in Russia once, but Prague has a certain charm about it. It is beautiful and old, and I am starting to feel I do not want to leave it for a long time to come.

FH: I think Elise will be glad to hear that. Favourite past time?

ALEKSANDR: Training Elise. You have to see it for yourself. The woman is so graceful and strong, but it is her dedication that always astounds me. She will train for hours, honing skills that I have taught her and perfecting her moves. I often sit out halfway through the session and let Andrej take over. There is only so much beating a man’s pride can take. It is nice to watch Andrej suffer defeat at her hands too.

FH: Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

ALEKSANDR: Thank you for interviewing me. I am looking forward to seeing your interview with my sweet Elise too so I can read what she says about me. I hope that readers have enjoyed this interview as much as I have.

Interview with Hyperion from my Vampires Realm series

It’s time to bring in a vampire who has captured the hearts of many readers despite not being the hero of any of my books yet… that’s right… one of my two great and wonderfully mysterious vampires is here to chat with me.

Hyperion is probably the most popular vampire in my Vampires Realm series. I get a lot of people asking about him and when he’s going to get his own story. It’s so tempting to just keep having him appear in other heroes and heroines novels in the series because I don’t want his quirky personality to change due to him finally having his love by his side. I’m not sure his personality would change, but he might be a little distracted by her and not amuse himself with everyone else’s love lives as much. lol.

As I’ve said above, Hyperion doesn’t have his own love story yet. I did write a short piece about his origins and you can read it on my Vampires Realm website: http://www.vampiresrealm.com/freestory_eternitythebeginning.php

Now, I’ve been waiting to interview this man for a long time, so on with the show…

REMEMBER: If you want Hyperion to answer your question, leave it in a comment on the post and I’ll pass it on to him and he’ll answer it for you.

(It feels as though I’ve been waiting forever for this moment, and that I’m going to have to wait a little longer. Minutes tick by. I tap my pen against the clipboard with my notes on it. Maybe he’s going be a no-show. The door creaks open and the man himself enters, casually dressed in a loose black shirt that has the top few buttons undone, revealing bronzed skin and the valley between his chest muscles. He saunters across the room to the black velvet armchair and drapes himself in it, crosses his black-clad legs and smiles at me, revealing slightly extended canines. His purple eyes are beautiful in the firelight, mesmerising, but I know better than to fall into their trap)

HYPERION: When will you write my story, little lady? (the mixture of accents in his voice make his birth nationality hard to place but I know he was born over three thousand years ago in Egypt)

FH: Soon, I think. A few people want to read it. Every appearance you make in the series intrigues them a little more. I think you have a fan club. I’m tempted to change that to ‘fang club’ as I think these readers are just longing to imagine they’re your heroine.

HYPERION: (smiles slowly) It can be arranged. I am always looking for fresh entertainment. The days can feel so long when I have so much on my mind and cannot sleep. I wouldn’t say no to a little midday snack.

FH: Hmm, but I have the impression that’s all they would be to you. You flirt so well with everyone but would you ever go further than a quick bite?

HYPERION: (his eyes darken and he looks away to the fireplace on his right, causing his irises to reflect silver in the light) Perhaps once upon a time I would have. I am afraid I would have to disappoint any ladies looking for more than just the pleasure of my bite now. My heart belongs to another.

FH: Tell me something I don’t know. Things have certainly been busy for you recently though, so that must have occupied you to some degree?

HYPERION: (he turns back to me and smiles again) Most entertaining. It does amuse me when these vampire hunters believe they are any kind of match for my kind. I am still disputing certain outcomes of the event at the Venia mansion with Winter though. I am sure he is lying. There isn’t the slightest possibility that he beat me.

FH: You’re a sore loser. Does that come with age?

HYPERION: (laughs) No… my cavalier attitude and the right to pry into others’ relationships came with age. I have to amuse myself somehow. If you lived for three thousand years, you would likely end up the same. I do not think any would dare dispute my right either.

FH: They’re all scared of you. You could probably kill most of the vampires in the seven bloodlines with just a flick of your finger. There aren’t any who can stand against your strength.

HYPERION: Now, there you are wrong. There is my beloved sister.

FH: That is true. Ineru is probably the one vampire in the world who could kill you with only a few words.

HYPERION: Not the only vampire. There is another. Women… they are man’s only weakness.

FH: Very true. We can destroy men without flinching. Your sex isn’t as strong as you think.

HYPERION: Your species isn’t as strong as it thinks.

FH: Touché. I’ll give you that one. So, do you have any other adventures planned?

HYPERION: I do indeed, and I think I shall need you to write them down for me. It is high time that my story was told. I grow tired of waiting… you are the only human in the world who can keep me waiting… perhaps the only person too. No vampire would dare. Not even Ineru.

FH: I’ll write it. Don’t worry. I do need to write your sister’s story and also Lilith’s sister’s story too, and I think those should come first.

HYPERION: You place two stories before mine. I grant you leave to write my sister’s story first, but to write Lilith’s sister’s story before mine… sheer madness, my little human. Why does she get precedence over me?

FH: Because her story came first. So shush, behave yourself. I know that your story sort of started shortly after Winter’s story, but it hasn’t ended yet and it’s easier to write a story when it has ended and I have both hero and heroine present to recount it for me. Win your heroine and then we’ll talk about writing your story, okay?

HYPERION: (frowns) Fine, if you insist it be that way, then I will do all in my power to make it happen. It will certainly be an adventure worth writing down though. I can promise you that.

FH: I’m sure readers are glad to hear it. They probably expect nothing less from you and I think every time you appear in a book, they’re secretly hoping you’ve found someone to love and they’ll get to read about it.

HYPERION: It isn’t a case of finding someone to love. I have already found her, but I thought she was lost to me. It is more a case of finding where my love has gone.

FH: Either way, people want to read about it. I’m sure your ‘fang club’ will be desperate to read it when I’ve written it.

HYPERION: Then perhaps we should move things along and I can see about making my story happen.

FH: All of you vampires are so impatient. I have a few silly questions that I like to ask the people I’m interviewing. Firstly, what’s your favourite colour?

HYPERION: Purple. It wasn’t a colour I was familiar with when human. The first time I saw it in Ineru’s eyes, it became my favourite colour. She has beautifully clear purple eyes.

FH: Sometimes you sound a little too in love with your sister. (he scowls at me) And moving swiftly on… your favourite smell?

HYPERION: The desert at night when the sand is cooling and the wind carries the faint scent of water and greenery. It has stayed with me for three millennia.

FH: Your favourite possession?

HYPERION: My ravens.

FH: Favourite thing to do?

HYPERION: Stargaze with my sister. We often did it back in Egypt. There you could see so many stars. I think we used to do it because it made us both feel that not everything had changed. The world was still the same and the stars were still the same. It made it easier to cope with what happened to me, and what I had done to Ineru.

FH: And finally, what’s your favourite time of year?

HYPERION: Winter. The nights are longer in Russia then and very clear. Ineru finds it easier to get away from her place of exile too because the guards are less inclined to leave their houses and check on her.

FH: You really do care a lot about your sister. I can understand it though. She’s been with you for three thousand years and was your only companion until you found your bloodline. Do you still feel bad about turning her?

HYPERION: (shakes his head) No. It is what she wanted and I don’t think I could have coped with watching her wither and die. I don’t think I would have made it past my first decade as a vampire without her at my side.

FH: That’s very sweet. You’re a good brother to her. Now, I’ll let you get on with that business of finding the woman you love. Good luck!

HYPERION: (nods) Thank you. I shall bring back a story worthy of your skill with words.

FH: Get on with you. Compliments get you nowhere.

(Hyperion smiles, rises from the seat, and bows in a way that has me staring down his half-open shirt. Whoever has captured this man’s heart is one lucky lady!)

Ah, I think I’m more in love with him than ever. What about you?

REMEMBER: If you want Hyperion to answer your question, leave it in a comment on the post and I’ll pass it on to him and he’ll answer it for you.

Interview with a demonic angel – Veiron

Over the course of my Birthday Bash weekend, I’m sitting down with some of my favourite heroes from my books to pick their brains about their stories and to get them talking about themselves. They will also be answering reader questions too!

If you want a hero to answer your question, leave it in a comment on the post and I’ll pass it on to the vampire / angel / demon / etc in question and he’ll answer it for you.

First of my interviews this weekend is with Veiron.

If you’re new to the Her Angel series or you haven’t read the latest book in the series, Her Guardian Angel, then you probably don’t know who Veiron is. I’ll paint you a pretty visual picture of this Hell’s angel. For starters, he’s a major character in Her Guardian Angel and also the hero of the next novel in the series, Her Demonic Angel.

Veiron was originally an angel of Heaven, but in the course of his current life he fell and pledged himself to the Devil instead. This caused part of his appearance to change. Veiron now has crimson feathered wings that match his long scarlet hair, and the red that can emerge in his dark eyes at times. He’s six-feet-plus of otherworldly beauty and often appears wearing his obsidian and crimson armour. At times when he loses his cool, his true appearance comes to the fore and his skin turns black, his eyes burn red and his teeth sharpen, and the feathers fall off his wings to reveal the dragon-like ones beneath. Veiron is dangerous, and has a vicious streak ten miles wide, but he’s also fiercely protective of those he cares about and would die to protect someone he loved.

Veiron’s book in the Her Angel series will be out in September 2012.

FH: I have Veiron here with me today. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?

VEIRON: Charming. Gorgeous. Deadly. That’s me. (shrugs his broad shoulders) But I suppose you want more information than that. Why do I get the feeling this interview is going to leave me with a bitter taste in my mouth?

FH: You didn’t have to agree to it. Now, tell the lovely readers about yourself, or the bitterness you’ll be tasting in your mouth will be your blood after I sock you one.

VEIRON: (glowers) Are you threatening me, mortal female? I find it highly unlikely that you would hit me. You need me after all. You wouldn’t want to upset me. I’ll play along though because I do find you amusing. I was an angel. That’s what you want me to say, isn’t it? Shall I outline my fall from grace and every sordid thing I have done since? I was an angel… and yes, I fell. Worse than that, I pledged allegiance to the Devil and became one of his angels. Angels can fall and redeem themselves, but if they change sides and join with the Devil, there is no turning back until death claims them and they are reborn. When I die, I will return to Heaven. For me, that is not a comfort. I no longer do the Devil’s bidding. I have grown tired of him and the whole game between Heaven and Hell. I refuse to play anymore. I want to live a quiet life now and enjoy it. It is more difficult than you would think when you’re high on the hit list of both sides. (sighs) I won’t stop fighting for my freedom though, and I will have my vengeance.

FH: That was more of a moody statement of intent rather than talking about yourself, Veiron. You said you would play nice with me today. Now, answer my next question nicely. Your story is next in the series, but you had a role to play in the latest book too, Her Guardian Angel. Can you tell us about what happened in that story?

VEIRON: (huffs) Stage one of my revenge was successfully put into action. I have been through hell, no pun intended, with this eternal game between the two realms. Now I have finally given up going along with the Devil’s desires and have taken a stand with the help of Marcus, the hero in that particular story. Amelia is safe for now but who is to say how long this peace can last? There are already pawns in motion and plans unfolding. I won’t go down without a fight though. I won’t go back. Never again. We made a stand and no matter what happens, I’ll continue with what I’ve started.

FH: You’ve been through a lot in the past two thousand years, and have plenty of reason to be angry with a lot of people. Did it feel good to get your own back a little?

VEIRON: Insanely good. (grins) It is difficult to ignore the Devil. He holds sway over his minions as Heaven holds sway over the angels. Sometimes I find it hard to go against his orders but his power over me is weakening. He’s less than pleased with what I did but he’ll have to catch me if he wants to punish me, and since he can’t leave Hell, well… I guess he’s pretty *bleeped*. Did you just censor me?

FH: Yes. Not everyone wants to hear such foul language. I know you’re a Hell’s angel, but try to keep it clean. Can you give us any sneak peeks into your book in the Her Angel series?

VEIRON: Well, *bleep* me, I never knew you were such a prude about this sort of *bleeping* thing. Stop that.

FH: No! Now, answer my question.

VEIRON: *bleep* Hey! I didn’t even swear then. I said ‘fine’!

FH: Sorry. I was anticipating a rude word.

VEIRON: (huffs and shakes head) You have no faith in me. All Hell is breaking loose in my story. It’s pandemonium. The wheels were set in motion far quicker than any of us anticipated and we certainly didn’t expect that Erin would turn out to be a target. When Marcus and Amelia asked me to go to Hell, I knew it was important. They wouldn’t ask me to risk my neck going back down there if it wasn’t. I also knew that Marcus would never allow Amelia to head into Hell. It’s too dangerous for her. If she dies… well, we just have to keep her alive at all costs. I went because I knew the land well and could move around relatively undetected and with only minor problems as long as I stayed away from the Devil. I certainly wasn’t expecting to find such a beautiful and fiery woman as the object of my rescue mission.

FH: Your leading lady, Erin, goes through a lot in the story and is caught up in the same vicious game as you are. How did you feel when you met her, and when you realised that she was another pawn on the chessboard?

VEIRON: Erin is… well… she’s amazing. She’s beautiful, feisty, and really strong. She has to be. When I met her, I wasn’t sure how to feel. I knew she was different to anyone I’ve met before and I wasn’t blind or dumb enough not to notice that I couldn’t keep my eyes off her during our journey out of Hell. When we made it out and she was safe, and I realised that it wasn’t over, I was madder than hell. Erin is more than just another pawn. She’s so much more important than that, both to me and to the game between Heaven and Hell. I won’t let them have her though. I’ll protect her, no matter what it takes or the cost.

FH: That’s very romantic and very like you. You were involved with Taylor, who is now Einar’s woman, and you met her again in Her Guardian Angel, and in your story too. Was it difficult for you, especially in your story?

VEIRON: Yes. It was a nightmare. I was happy for her when I realised that she had found someone who could love her and give her everything that she wanted and needed in life. Einar is a good man and he takes care of her. I was no good for her. We were no good for each other. Being apart from her really hurt at first, but my duty meant a lot more to me back then and she didn’t want to be in Hell all the time, so it was never going to work. She was very understanding when I showed up on her doorstep with Erin, but I know it must have hurt her. I don’t think Einar was impressed, but at least he didn’t turn us away. Erin needed help and Einar was the safest person I could think of at the time.

FH: I’ll ask some fun questions now to brighten the mood and stop you from giving too much away. Describe yourself in one word?

VEIRON: Dashing. (grins)

FH: You would say that. I would have gone with evil, annoying, egotistical, vicious… anyway. What’s your favourite colour?

VEIRON: Red.

FH: Speaking of red. Is your scarlet hair colour natural?

VEIRON: Of course. I don’t dye it to match my wings and eyes if that’s what you’re thinking! The carpet matches the curtains.

FH: Thank you for that outburst of TMI. Weapon of choice?

VEIRON: Swords. It should be spears, but… I went off them after falling. I like swords… but my demonic weapon is a double-ended spear.

FH: Caffeine has rather stimulating effects on angels. You’re fallen and have gone over to the other side. Since you changed biologically, did it also change this about you?

VEIRON: What sort of question is that? That wasn’t a fun question, and you said I was doing the whole too much information thing and then ask that! I don’t really think it’s any of your business whether caffeine still has me rock hard in two seconds flat.

FH: So it does! (grins when he blushes so red he matches his hair) It’s good to hear that not everything changed about you when you switched sides.

VEIRON: *bleep* off. (grumbles) And stop saying I switched sides. It’s not as though I had much *bleeping* choice. It’s their fault that it happened and I will make them pay for it. They’ll pay for every time they *bleeped* me or someone I love, and I will bathe Hell in a river of blood before I’m through. And stop censoring me! You’re doing it on purpose now. I’m pretty certain some of what I said wasn’t a swear word. It was. You ‘bleeped’ when I said ‘wronged’. Oh, that’s low. Now it reads as though they were screwing me and those I love. Honestly. I said they’ll pay for every time they wronged me or someone I love… ah, so you didn’t bleep that one then, huh?

FH: (smiles) You love me really. Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

VEIRON: I really hope you’re not censoring every time I swear in my book, because that *bleep* will get pretty boring pretty quickly. Hah… man, you’re funny… Uh, Erin and Taylor said I had to be polite and tell you that it was lovely being interviewed by you and I had a great time. So, yeah, thanks and all that. Now can I go?

FH: It’s a little late for being polite but yes, you can go now. Thanks for the interview. After the trouble you’ve caused me in your book, I’m not surprised you couldn’t help stirring up trouble in your interview too! Sometimes I pity Erin…

Remember: If you want a hero to answer your question, leave it in a comment on the post and I’ll pass it on to the vampire / angel / demon / etc in question and he’ll answer it for you!

Interview with a vampire – Venturi

It’s time to welcome the slightly-dark lord of the Tenebrae vampires in my Vampires Realm series, Venturi, into my interview room.

Venturi first appeared in Prophecy: Child of Light, which is book one in the Prophecy Trilogy, and was one of the lead vampires in book two and three of the trilogy. He has also made appearances in other Vampires Realm stories, such as Seventh Circle and Spellbound, together with Prophecy and Valentine. More recently, he showed up in Masquerade, which is due out in January 2012.

I caught up with Venturi in my rather lovely interview room… picture dark red walls, wooden floor, crackling log fire with an ornate marble surround, and two very comfy black velvet armchairs and that’s my interview room. The best place to lure my paranormal people into.

If you want to get a feel for Venturi, then you can read more about him at the Vampires Realm website: http://www.vampiresrealm.com/vampire_venturi.php

(Venturi stalks into the room, a sour look on his face. As he enters the sphere of light emanating from the fireplace beside me, I notice the cuts and bruises on his handsome face. He slumps into the black velvet armchair opposite me and frowns in my direction.)

FH: It’s good to see you again, Venturi. I can see that things have been just as busy as Prophecy and Valentine said they have been for you. Did you pick up those wounds defending the gate?

Venturi: The gate is a pain in my backside. (he scowls) I am tired of having the wretched thing in my home. Each night and day we are fighting to contain the creatures trying to come through the breach. It is draining. I rarely get a chance to leave the castle. They need me there. Whenever I am lucky enough to be able to get away, it is never long before I am called back. (his look brightens) You mentioned Prophecy. She is here then?

FH: (smiles at him) Yes, I’ve already interviewed her. You must miss her when you’re stuck in Romania?

Venturi: I do, deeply, but my role there is an important one, not only for vampirekind. It is your people I am protecting with my life too.

FH: I could remind you that you were once one of us.

Venturi: (laughs) Many long centuries ago. I have forgotten my life as a human with good reason. When I was human, the world was a dark place even if you were lucky enough to be rich. There were so many diseases and plagues. Even the slightest scratch could end your life. Modern humans do not know how lucky they are.

FH: Not quite as fortunate as vampires. You enjoy invulnerability that we could never even dream of achieving. I can’t think of a disease that can infect you.

Venturi: Only Nox Noctis. (his look darkens and he combs the tangled threads of his overlong dirty blond hair from his face) That is a plague that we could live without. It is possible for us to contract that devastating sickness and there is little chance of coming back from it if it seizes hold of us.

(Nox Noctis is a terrible disease that can turn vampires and werewolves into mindless demons who are not only a danger to others but also to themselves. They’re just as likely to shed their own blood because of the madness that grasps them)

FH: Perhaps we should move onto a brighter subject. You were able to attend the recent centenary masquerade at the Venia mansion. That must have been nice considering that you’ve been stuck at your castle in Romania. Were you able to see Prophecy there?

Venturi: Yes, we met there. I came straight from a battle and she was kind enough to tend to my wounds for me. I do not think Valentine appreciated my presence. Prophecy had not seen me in many long months and she slipped up, forgetting her place. Valentine made his anger known and I cannot blame him. If Prophecy were mine and she danced with Valentine without my permission, I would have reacted the same way. We deserved to be punished for our actions. I am only glad that he did not take things further than merely reprimanding us before the gathered bloodlines.

FH: It must be very difficult for you to hold back when you’re around her these days because you’ve been intimate with each other in the past, but I understand why you don’t want to push Valentine too far.

Venturi: It is better to allow him to set the boundaries and seek his permission and have what little I can of Prophecy than to cross the line and have Valentine take away his approval. As her mate, Valentine is perfectly entitled to revoke the rights he has granted to me and Prophecy. I do not want that to happen. I do not want my touch to cause her pain or to suffer seeing her and knowing I can never kiss her or be near to her again.

FH: You make me want to come over there and give you a big old hug when you look so solemn and as though your heart would break if that ever happened.

Venturi: (smiles to reveal sharp fangs) I would not say no to a little comfort.

FH: (holds my hands up and shakes my head) Not that sort of comfort. We’ve been through this before. I’m not on the menu. (searches for a way of changing the subject) Prophecy and Valentine mentioned that they might come to help you with the gate problem. The three of you working together again. That should be fun, right?

Venturi: I am certain it will be interesting. I would not call it fun though. The gate is very dangerous and both Valentine and I do not want Prophecy anywhere near it, but she has been having visions about it and it is impossible to keep her away from something like this when she has set her mind on it.

FH: I’m sure that between you and Valentine you can keep Prophecy safe. You managed it at the centenary masquerade.

Venturi: I would give my life to keep her safe. (he glances towards the door)

FH: I can see that now you know that Prophecy is around you want to get away from me and see her. I’ll finish up on a few fun questions. What’s your favourite colour?

Venturi: Black.

FH: And your favourite smell?

Venturi: The woods near my castle in autumn when the leaves are falling and the first frosts come.

FH: Your favourite possession?

Venturi: I cannot think of anything I truly possess as mine alone. Actually, I have a sword that Prophecy gave to me. I sometimes think it is enchanted.

FH: It wouldn’t surprise me. Favourite thing to do?

Venturi: After we have subdued the gate and locked it down so the castle is secure, I like to return to my room and telephone Prophecy. Hearing her voice is comforting in the aftermath of a battle. It takes away the pain.

FH: And finally, what’s your favourite time of year?

Venturi: Autumn. The air is full of new smells and the nights draw in, and there’s often frosts that make the castle grounds sparkle like diamonds. It is a beautiful time of year.

FH: Thank you for coming to talk with me today. I’ll let you get on now. Prophecy is just through that door.

(He grins, rises from the seat and is gone in a flash. With a sigh, I look at my notes.)

FH: Who’s next?

If you would like to learn more about Venturi and his story with Valentine and Prophecy, then the first book in the Prophecy Trilogy is available in ebook for just $0.99!

Interview with a vampire – Lincoln

We heard from his heroine, Lilith, back on Saturday. Now it’s time to sit down with Lincoln, the hero of my vampire romance book, Seventh Circle, and see what he has to say for himself.

(Lincoln strides in, confident as always, and settles himself in the black velvet armchair opposite me. He’s a study in darkness with his tailored black shirt and trousers, and his dark hair and eyes a contrast to his pale skin.)

FH: So, Lincoln, you’ve been busy since we last saw you at the end of your story, Seventh Circle.

LINCOLN: A lot has happened since then. I spent a few restful months with Lilith at the cabin while she acclimatised to being a vampire and became accustomed to the thought of running a bloodline, and then we finally moved to the family mansion in Oslo. We have not had a moment’s peace since then. Lilith is slowly coming to terms with her role within the bloodline but I am still handling most of the business for her. I do not think she is ready to take on the full burden of running a bloodline. We did have some time away from the mansion recently though, to attend Lilith’s first Creator Day masquerade. It was quite the event. In the end, I am glad that Eve could not attend. I think Lilith might have felt more on edge than she had and Eve would have again come face to face with Section Seven. It was hard enough for Lilith to see them and see familiar faces amongst their ranks.

FH: It must have been very difficult for her. Was it the first time she’s come across her old employers and friends?

LINCOLN: (nods solemnly) Yes, it was. I do not think she was prepared for it even though she had said that she was when we were travelling down to Saint Petersburg for the ball. Seeing people she knew, fighting them, disturbed her greatly. When Eve returns to us again, we are all going to head out to the lake where it is peaceful. I wish to take my mate’s mind off what happened and I know that she feels relaxed there, away from the bloodline and all it entails.

FH: Isn’t it a risk to leave the bloodline unattended?

LINCOLN: It is. I will only be able to leave them for a short period at a time, no more than a day. I will miss Lilith but she will understand, and I know she will appreciate the break and what I am doing for her.

FH: Lilith and Eve will be safe at the cabin though. I’m sure there’ll be a certain male vampire there who is more than capable of handling a couple of females and protecting them.

LINCOLN: (smiles but it’s strained) I only wish I could remain there with my love like he can. Sometimes being a Chosen Son is nothing short of torture. It keeps me away from Lilith so much when she needs to escape to the cabin. I have to ensure the bloodline is safe.

FH: Your romance certainly doesn’t seem to be suffering from any time apart though. You two seem more inseparable than ever.

LINCOLN: I suppose we are. Perhaps it is the time apart that brings us closer. I can sense her through our bond, long to go to her and find it hard to sleep without her at my side. Our bond drives me to return to her and see that she is safe with my own eyes not just my feelings. One day Lilith will finally be comfortable with being the lady of Vehemens and Eve will be comfortable with her new role and life as a vampire, and then perhaps I can take Lilith away to the cabin and leave the bloodline in Eve’s hands for a while.

FH: I think you would like that, and I know that Lilith would like it. I think she misses you just as much as you do her when you’re apart. It’s great to hear that you’re getting along though and that Lilith is slowly becoming more comfortable with her new life as your mate, a vampire, and a lady in charge. I have a few silly questions that I like to ask the people I’m interviewing. Firstly, what’s your favourite colour?

LINCOLN: Deep red. I never realised that until I gave Lilith a garnet choker and it looked stunning on her.

FH: Perhaps it’s just the colour red on your mate’s neck you like? (smiles at him) And your favourite smell?

LINCOLN: The scent of the pines and the lake. The smell of nature. It stirs my senses.

FH: Lilith likes the smell of the area around the cabin too, but she added the scent of your aftershave to it. Apparently you give her cuddles by the lake. Very sweet (he scowls at me). Your favourite possession?

LINCOLN: The cabin. It is not technically mine. It belongs to the bloodline but is only used by the ranked members, as in myself, Lilith and now Eve. Lilith says that it is ours. I like it because it is the only place I can truly be alone with her.

FH: Favourite thing to do?

LINCOLN: Would it surprise you if I say that it is visiting the cabin with Lilith?

FH: Not really. I had a suspicion you would say that. And finally, what’s your favourite time of year?

LINCOLN: Winter. I like the stillness of it and the long nights.

FH: Lilith said the opposite. She loves summer. I guess opposites attract though. Thank you for letting me interview you. It was great to catch up with you.

LINCOLN: Thank you. I shall see myself out.

(He rises and leaves me alone in the room to study my notes on my next guest)

Did you all enjoy this catch up with Lincoln?

If you’re not familiar with Lincoln and his vampire love story, you can read more about it below…

F E Heaton
Born with powers similar to a vampire’s, Lilith has spent her life hunting demons for Section Seven. On the same night as she watches a vampire kill her best friend, she is faced with her worst nightmare—a client who is not only attractive but a vampire.

Lincoln is a powerful pureblood with a problem. He’s caught up in a prophecy and has little time left to unravel the mystery of the contract between his lord and the Devil before he dies. When witches foretell that a vampire hunter will save his life, he’s prepared to work with his most hated enemy, but he isn’t prepared for the forbidden desire he feels when he meets her.

Their mutual attraction becomes difficult to deny as they work together but when Lincoln reveals the truth about her powers, will Lilith find the strength to embrace a side of herself that she wished didn’t exist? And when they discover Lilith’s role in the prophecy, how far will Lincoln go to save her?

Dark, sensual and fast-paced, Seventh Circle is a story of forbidden love so strong that it will save the world.

Interview with a Source Blood – Amber

The first of today’s interviews is with the lovely Amber from my vampire romance book, Forbidden Blood. I’ve already spoken to her vampire lover Kearn in a preview interview during my Halloween Spooktacular.

(The door to my interview room opens slowly and a head pops around it. Amber smiles at me, looking surprisingly bright and healthy considering everything she’s going through, and then steps into the room. Her hazel eyes sparkle as she approaches and then settles in the black velvet armchair opposite me. Like Lady Lilith of my Vampires Realm series, she toes off her sneakers and settles her feet on the cushion, tucking them close to her bottom. She’s wearing a deep red hoodie and jeans today, and it’s strange to see her so casually dressed considering she’s currently staying at Kearn’s family mansion. Her long brown hair is up and she’s sporting a rather new looking set of bite marks on her throat.)

FH: It’s wonderful to see you again, Amber. You’re looking well and those bite marks suit you. (she blushes) It’s alright. I’m just a little jealous. You’ve landed yourself quite the vampire. Let’s kick off with a little about you.

AMBER: I’m not sure where to start. I’m human, for now, and I was just going through life like everyone else, not a clue about the fact that vampires are real… and that they aren’t the only supernatural species out there walking amongst us. I thought my life was going to be normal. I had a job, and was on the verge of moving to Paris to pursue my career when I met Kearn. I’m not saying that I prefer that life to the one I have now, just that I hadn’t expected to meet a vampire that night or to discover that I’m a Source Blood. That might sound crazy to people who don’t know what a Source Blood is. I’m human… but my lineage dates back thousands of years to a time when vampires were evolving. My ancestors broke away from them and remained human, but I share a gene with them. Because my bloodline didn’t evolve, that gene has remained pure. Now, if a vampire drinks my blood, they can gain anything between a nice buzz if they only take a little… and if they drink a lot… well, I’ve seen what happens, and it scares me. My blood can restore the same deteriorating gene in theirs, reawakening their godlike powers. It’s a frightening thing… both to know I carry the power to unleash the true powers of a vampire, and to know there are other women and men out there who share my blood… my family included. I want to warn them, but I’m not sure I can do it without sounding as though I’ve lost my mind. Kearn tells me that they’ll be monitored and the Venators and the Sovereignty will keep them safe, but I still worry about them, and the others like me out there.

FH: Can you tell us about what happened in your story?

AMBER: I was attacked in an alley because I had witnessed something I shouldn’t have. All I had done was see inside a factory courtyard where men were carrying heavy black sacks, and suddenly life as I knew it was over. Men attacked me, and a vampire fed me his blood… I thought I was going crazy but once you see fangs and you’ve tasted their blood… and can feel it inside you, controlling you against your will, then it’s hard to deny they exist. Kearn rescued me. Every day I thank God that Kearn was prowling the area in search of the very man who attacked me. When he took me back to his apartment and explained some things, and asked me to assist him, I couldn’t exactly say no. I knew the safest place for me was with him, and he was my only means of survival. The man wanted to taste my blood to discern whether I was a Source Blood and valuable to him as a blood slave, so he could harvest it and sell it to other vampires… he wasn’t going to stop until he had me, and I wasn’t about to leave Kearn’s side until Kearn had him instead. Everything turned mad after that… I found out what Kearn was… and the man upped his game, and I still have to live with the memories of what happened. Sometimes I still have nightmares.

FH: It must have been hard to deal with everything, especially discovering the existence of vampires and other demons, and also the discovery about your blood.

AMBER: It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with. Being told that I was different, and that the man after me wouldn’t stop until he had me… I still get shivers now. I was lucky that Kearn was there. I know he’s a vampire, but he’s so different to how I pictured them. He’s strong and steadfast, and he did everything to protect me. He sacrificed so much to keep me safe, and I love him all the more because of it. Vampires are as different to each other as humans are. Some of them, like Kearn, are good inside, even if they don’t realise it. Kearn helped me through everything. He supported me and I couldn’t have done it without him. I’m a strong woman, but there’s only so much I can deal with… and being told vampires exist, that Venators are there to hunt those who harm Source Bloods, and that I’m one of those special humans… it’s a lot to take in. I think I would have fallen apart without Kearn there to keep me together and give me something to focus on. It’s far easier to deal with something when your mind is on something far nicer… like making a vampire with a closed-off-heart open up and fall in love with you.

FH: Your relationship with Kearn is very complicated because your blood is forbidden and he’s not supposed to taste it. It must have been difficult for both of you at first, and not just because of the blood. There’s the vampire thing too.

AMBER: Yeah, the vampire thing and the blood thing were hard to work out at first. When I confronted him about the fact he was a vampire, not just a Venator, and I saw the effect my blood had on him, I wasn’t sure how to react. It’s like a drug to them. It unleashed a different side to him, released his inhibitions and his passion. It’s hard to be afraid of the fact a man, a vampire, has just tasted your blood when he’s pinning you to the side of his car and kissing the breath from you in the most delicious way. He was still the man I knew, the one who would do anything to protect me… but all the emotions he usually kept locked away were unleashed and there was actually a small part of me that really wanted him to take more blood from me. Not just that night either. I wanted him so much, against my better judgement, and every time he tasted my blood, we grew a little closer. He finds it hard to keep things hidden from me when my blood is inside him. I can feel his emotions, so I could sense his pain and turmoil, all the dark things he wanted to hide from me. Kearn has been through so much. It was impossible not to fall for him, especially when I found out the things he had endured with his family and his exile. When I learned about his past, I also realised why he kept his emotions on such a tight leash, and why there were times when he refused my blood… like when we were making love.

FH: How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?

AMBER: It’s been so much quieter since then, but I know that Kearn still feels a lot of pain over the events that happened in our story, and in his past. I think he has a long way to go before he can move past it all and let it go. He’s been even more attentive than usual, and I’m not going to say that I don’t enjoy it. When he’s not off on missions and we’re together, he scores top marks in the romance stakes… actually, he scores high when he’s away from me too. He calls me whenever he can to check in on me. I think he’s worried that his family aren’t treating me well when he’s not around, but they’re nice to me. He takes me with him on missions whenever he can, and says that it’s because he can’t bear to be apart from me, but I’m convinced it’s because he doesn’t want to leave me with his family. I’ve been working with some of the vampires to promote better treatment of humans amongst the species. It’s amazing the work you can do, and the attention you get from even the darkest of vampires when you have Archduke Pendragon on your side. He oversees all the vampires in Britain, and since he introduced me into society, everyone has been very pleasant to me, even at the balls when Kearn and I break the rules by dancing together.

FH: Your story, FORBIDDEN BLOOD, is a book in a series. Can you tell us a little about the series and can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?

AMBER: Yes, it is part of a series, and I believe you’re writing about Kearn’s cousin Traegard Montagu next. I would love to read that book because in the few times I’ve met Traegard, he’s been colder than the Antarctic around me. I don’t think it’s a human thing either. I think it’s a woman thing. I’ve wanted to ask him about it so many times, but he’s so quick to make an exit if we’re left alone together. Traegard is a Venator too. Kearn says that he didn’t know that his cousin had been chosen until they met again at the Savernake mansion the night that Kearn defeated the man who was after me. I believe the series focuses on the Venators, doesn’t it, and in particular the vampires? Kearn has told me about Venators, and how they work for the Sovereignty and basically dish out punishment to every vampire who breaks the laws regarding Source Blood. He won’t tell me much about the place they call the “endless dark” which is where the souls of those sentenced by the power given to the Venators by the Sovereignty go. He closes up if I try to get him to talk about it, and says that I don’t want to know. I generally take that as a sign that I really don’t want to know. The vampires aren’t the only demon species that the Sovereignty governs. I’ve heard that there are angels, witches, werewolves and cat-shifters, and things called therianthropes… and even fairies! I haven’t met any of them yet, and Kearn says that I probably won’t as vampires don’t tend to associate with other species, but I overheard someone talking about cat-shifters at a ball recently, and apparently a pride of them has moved to the countryside near the Savernake and Montagu mansions, so I might get to meet some after all.

FH: Describe yourself in one word?

AMBER: Strong. I think it’s a requirement when dealing with a vampire fiancé and the whole crazy world they live in.

FH: Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

AMBER: Thank you for having me here today and letting me ramble about Kearn. It feels good to talk to someone about everything and not have to worry that they’ll think I’ve gone round the bend. I can’t wait to catch up with everyone in other stories in the series. I’m sure any who read my story will be as interested in finding out how I turn out as the vampires I live with are!

FH: I’m sure they will. I can’t wait to sit down with Traegard and have him tell me his story. I’ll probably see you then!

AMBER: No doubt about that. Take care until we meet again then! I’m surprised you’ve lasted until this point in your event without receiving a set of bite marks from one of your guests. (she laughs)

FH: Well, there is still Venturi to come but I don’t think he’ll bite me. He wouldn’t dare.

(Amber smiles and rises from her seat, slips her shoes back on and then leaves with a little wave and a big smile. It must be nice to be engaged to such a handsome vampire)
